He knows he's been drifting and it was for an undebatable reason. Now he has to make a decision and he has the right person with him to help him with that. He doesn't seem the type to just jump into something because it's work. He'll mull over his choices before settling into whatever it is he's meant for.
I like to imagine them eventually back in Bristol, living in her shed, she's found her dream job (possibly to do with children) and he goes back to welding. That could be mostly because I like imagining him in the work gloves all sweaty. Oops, did I write that last bit down?
