There was talk of him in the role and he said he'd love to do it but then of course SG came along. A few years in Star Gate and he should have no real money concerns in the future.

Look at my face.

looks honest

Grant said he was offered the role and, before that, there were "insider reports" that he was the first person RTD asked to play the Doctor. I'm sure RTD mentioned it, too, but he stated that it was for the show's benefit (ie. huge name as the Doctor).

Google Hugh Grant and Doctor Who if you think I'm telling fibs... as if I would.

I had heard similiar rumours. Whether he would have been a good Doctor is another story. I liked him in Hamish Macbeth, who "starred" Shirley Henderson. There is your Doctor Who association.

To be fair, I would prefer Richard E Grant to Hugh Grant as doctor and in the "Scream of the Shalka" animated adventure (dances around because she has seen it), the Doctor looks more like Richard E Grant than Paul McGann

I liked The Big Bang....oh, you're talking about Doctor Who.

LOL I don't think you're telling fibs, but....Hugh Grant? I don't dislike him, but...Hugh Grant as the Doctor? I may be doing him a disservice, but I can't help feeling we've had a lucky escape

Well he played The Doctor in The Curse Of the Fatal Death for comic relief.....

Well, thats because he was Richard E Grant: the animated Doctor was never intended to be the McGann Doctor.

Hugh Grant's actually quite good as the Doctor in "The Curse of Fatal Death" but, no, he wouldn't be my first choice!

You've seen Shalka? Lucky you. Oddly, I prefer Richard E's performance in "The Curse of Fatal Death"!

Yes someone very kind supplied me with it. I prefer Richard E's performance as well. I think he could have been a very good doctor (in the flesh so to speak).

I don't know "everybody", though. Is Shalka the Paul McGann audio cartoon where he's played by Richard E Grant?

That's not canon so I probably won't enjoy it.

If Hugh Grant had got the part, I really wouldn't be watching it.

You really should, if Richard E Grant is very good as the 8. Doctor.. Paul McGann could not be better.

I think he has been rumoured as the 12. Doctor.

They should pick an older actor next time. And Scottish. Billy Connolly.

Wasn't Troughton Scottish?

Can just imagine the scene at Blaidd Drwg.

Rose - "I love you Doctor"

Doctor - Ehm, look. Sorry, Rose, sorry. I just, ehm, well, this is a very stupid question and... , particularly in view of our recent trip to Barcelona, but I just wondered, by any chance, ehm, eh, I mean obviously not because I guess I've only slept with 9 humanoids, but-but I-I just wondered... ehh. I really feel, ehh, in short, to recap it slightly in a clearer version, eh, the words of David Cassidy in fact, eh, while he was still with the Partridge family, eh, "I think I..."

Shoot me now.

David Tennant was and Sylvester McCoy was half Scottish.

No, it's the nothing-to-do-with-Paul-McGann webcast where he's played by Richard E Grant, who was supposed to be the 'official' ninth Doctor before the new series was commissioned and the BBC, uniquely breaking its normal stance of never confirming or denying anything, issued a statement to the effect that Shalka was 'no longer in canon'.
