digital video recorder connection
I have aTECHNIKA digital video recorder and previously connected it from its scart out to a TV scart input.
I would like to connect it to an lcd computer moniter with one VGA input connector using a scart to VGA lead. Is this a runner? |

Be prepared for a lot of hassle and possibly even a miserable failure to get it to work.
There are devices that can convert a SCART signal to VGA but they are often not cheap. Plus the monitor might reject the signal it is getting. Many computer only monitors may not accept a 50Hz signal which is what a standard UK TV signal is. A lot only work with 60Hz or higher signals. Just because a computer monitor looks a bit like a telly does not mean it can work like a telly. |

No, you can't do it wiith a lead - the signals are totally different.

The converter boxes are not that good, even the expensive ones. Your best bet would be to try and get hold of a PC monitor that that scart input. You can get 26" LCD TV that also function as a resonable PC monitor.
If I could I would, but I settled for an ACER 19" monitor with one vga input and a problem of how to connect my digital video recorder. I have bought a peak twin TV tuner and installed it in my computer, works well but the hard disc capacity on my PC (80gig) is IMO nowhere big enough to store tv recordings on it and if truth be told i would prefer to use my current Teknica set top box recorder as even the missus can use it! ta for the answers for now |

Stick a bigger drive in then - you could add it along side the existing drive, and use it just for TV.

Yeah! PC displays and TV sets have "different lineage", and are not directly compatible. To go between them you need a standards converter, which is not a simple device, the ones sold commerically are very expensive.
