Should we boo or not then..?

On one hand these people are in the house doing us all a favour by entertaining us. Good or bad they all contribute to the show. So it would be wrong to boo any of them. If there were no 'baddies' then the show would either fall flat on its face or end up like last years show (or is that the same thing). Respect them all then, or...

On the other hand we go to panto and are happily encouraged to boo the villain loudly and at every oportunity. And, hey, this is a show isn't it? A reality TV pantomime where Endemol get us to part with our cash in a surrogate voting version of the traditional boo...

Also...

Showing Shell's reaction to the booing on tonights C4 show will just contribute to the ammount of booing that goes on. If the outside world can shake the house up a bit then it loves to do it. The HMs reaction to Vanessas eviction crowd noise will fan the flames...

What a show..!

if everyone really wanted to freak a housemate out they would all turn up and just stare silently at the contestant as they left
i think some of the contestants would find booing to be validating as they are playing a game etc.

Pantomime villains are actors playing a role designed to make people boo them and getting paid to do so. When you boo them you are booing the character, *not* the actor themselves. As a professional, if they get booed, that is a sign that they are doing their job well and they can take a great deal of pride in that. Where as housemates are just being themselves. When you boo them, you are booing the person themselves. There is a big difference.

Also, it's been a long time since I've been to panto, but when I used to go, you booed the villain during the show, but at the end you clapped to show appreciation of their performance.

I dont really like to hear the booing for two reasons..
Firstly as you've mentioned, these people have entertained us and deserve some creidt for that
Secondly, if too many people are booed for minor reasons, it may put ordinary people off of applying , and the only HM's we will be left with are the showbiz wannabees who are willing to take the risk of being hated if there is a chance of getting a break..

This year I have a fear that every HM is going to be booed, as it seems thats the current mood and its a shame because in past years i think only a couple would have been.

Housemates are people simply fulfilling a role too. The selection process, openly refered to as an 'audition', ensures the final housemates selected for the series meet the parameters designated by the requirements of Endemol.

You and I can only view and judge what we, the audience, are shown on face value. What we see on the stage.

And, as a form of entertainment, the BB house becomes a stage for us. They are all players.

So... Do we not see a role here for the housemates, as defined by the requirements of Endemol.

A payment, they are in this for the money.

A show contrived to have ups, downs, fun, tears, heroes and, yep... here I go, VILLAINS.

What do we do but boo the villains..?

But they aren't *playing* a role, they are not actors. At best you could say they are puppets, or rats in a maze, but again that dehumanizes them.

So you know that Endermol is using the housemates to fulfill a role. You know this role is false. Yet you still choose to boo the housemates. I find that confusing.

I have never, ever, felt the need to boo any housemate.

Nor have I done so.

I only suggest that Big Brother would like me to do this.

Ah I see. Sorry for saying that you booed them then.

Yeah, I agree, it does seem that BB would like us to do so.

You didn't. I assumed from what you were saying that you agreed with the booing. You pointed out that you had never booed any of them. I was wrong, so apologised for saying that you had.

Not at all.

I tend not to side with the negative view of things.

he said it about himself awhile ago and id love to see him try and spit into the crowd he'll just get hauled off

i wouldnt give victor the time of day to boo him-i still think everyone should turn their back on him as soon as he walks out to show hes not worth their time-that'll freak him out-he was going on about vanessa coz he was just scared for himself-he really couldnt have been that concerned for her it was more for his own fears

Really?

Oh...

Not so much "hearing what I want to hear", since I don't much care either way about the guy, or the girl.

More "think I heard what I thought I heard, which is apparently not what I shoudl have heard".

I could have sworn that's what he was on about in the DR on CH4 last night.

More coffee, please.

And perhaps some Q-tips.

That's a little unfair. If someone has been a complete shit while they were in the house, then they deserve to get booed. But I don't see what Vanessa did that deserved that kind of reception.

At the pantomimes I went to, you booed the villain at the end to show appreciation of their performance - not only that, the villain would encourage the booing.

I think when you go into the house you have to be prepared that you may be boo'd on eviction. I'm quite a sensitive person and would probably blub like a baby if I was boo'd. However there is one foolproof way to get through the booing and it's a way that I think certainly Victor and possibly Jay may utilise and that is to play the pantomime "baddie" roll. Jeer at the crowd, stir them up into a frenzy, have them almost shouting "He's behind you". That way you can get through it without taking it personally.

IMHO Booing is just a natural byproduct of living on screen 24/7, some people will like you and some people will hate you, the trick is to remember that the booing will be over as soon as you finish the live interview and will only take up 2 minutes of your life. I'd rather be boo'd than get no reaction at all.

Would I boo someone else? Yeah I probably would.

I think people who boo are sad and need to get a life - no one has done anything in there that would require such booing
