Since Spyro(My kitten) has just had a burst of energy for the past few days(We're not sure why, he used to sleep all the time now he plays all the time) he's started playing with anything/everything(Including wires etc) what cat toys(or just things around the home) would you recommend?

Shoe laces. I've spent a fortune on on cat toys and the only thing my Stew is ever interested in in shoe laces

They love cardboard boxes, paper bags which have a good russel, ping pong balls or just screw up some tin toil into a ball. Also a thing ( i.e. cotton reel) dangling on string tied onto a stick is good. Most of these you can make yourself, otherwise you'll end up paying a fortune for toys he'll get tired of very quickly.

Cats are very fickle!!

Get those with catnip smell in them and buy a few so you can put some away and re-introduce them as new toys from time to time. Keep just a few about the house but rotate them as they soon get fed up and remember that a scrunged up ball of paper or tin foil or somthing like sweet wrappers that when you roll it in your hands gets them looking at you will give them loads of fun. They like chasing things so a ping pong ball can be like the world cup to your cat.

Screwed up paper was popular with the Impossible Princess. I would chuck it down the stairs and up again for hours.

Recycled hemp bags and rucksacks made good toys and good hideyholes.

The bed drawer was like an underground cavern.

My feet.

A cat track is a good toy. They love the way the ball goes round the track and it is cheap.

They love their shoe laces. Mine used to carry hers about when she was a kitten and got distraught if it got soggy and disappeared.

Don't spend money on cat toys- ours have always gotten more fun chasing the receipt than the damn toy

Paper bags, cardboard boxes, shoe laces (when being observed by slave) and ping-pong balls are all you need

We have catnip sent to us from a friend which is awesome every now and again- watching the cats act like Mathertron

I cut out the extra long bits of ribbon sewn into the shoulders of new t shirts. I collect feathers from the garden and either stand half way up the stairs and let them float down, or tie them in a bunch onto a piece of string to pull around. Old fashioned cotton reels to roll across the floor. Cardboard box lid with small holes cut into it and then poke pound shop mice into the holes randomly. The favourite at the moment for my cat is a twig from my tree which I have to sweep around the garden for her to chase. Cats will find almost anything to play with. The worst mine has found is to pounce onto my garden shears when I am trying to trim the grass edges. One day if she and I are not careful, she will no longer be a mitten kitten. I always stop and wait until she goes away before continuing.

My cat's allergic to catnip, shame really. Another vote for paper bags..

A good thing to get is a cat stand with a bit of height on it, makes 'em feel safe - they usually come with a scratching post or two which'll save your wallpaper/sofas etc, etc.

Mine's the same, she'd happily chase rolled up bits of paper all day. If she hears me balling up a piece of paper she comes running

One of my mum's cats loves emery boards, she can't file her nails while he's about!

One of my cats is the same, as soon as he hears the sound he is there and takes the board off me!

My other cat loves pipe cleaners and will growl if anyone approaches him when he has one

I'd forgotten about pipe cleaners. The cat when had when I was growing up loved them, he'd spend ages playing with them!

I use a garden cane with a piece of string tied to the end, a bit like a fishing rod.

The string can be dragged along the floor to set up a chase, or bounced above the cat to get it leaping 3 feet in the air.

This is a cat stand:

I got a slightly smaller one than the one posted^ for £25 but it's well-used and good value for money.

the catmint fish and mice from Culpepper, they love them. Or the plastic stripey ball with feathers attached, wonderful fun.

Cardboard boxes, our Charlie is addicted to them, we gave him one as a kitten, and even now as a 2 year old adult, we can't keep him out of them,
get a delivery of anything in a cardboard box and he's in it before we can empty it,
Problem is, he has no Idea of his own size, he's a big strong healthy 2 year old, had myself and the missus laughing the other night watching him try over and over to get into a cardboard box only slightly bigger than his own head,

Stupid boy!!!

I've spent so much on cat toys and they get played with for a few minutes, but the best toy my cats really like is a crisp packet screwed up into a cone (you push it between your thumb and index finger and tuck to corners in) and flicked acrossed the floor.
When I hoover, I find loads of these behind the sofa.

The other toy they like is a pen top!

Amber has tons of cat toys and brushes. She plays with none of them (barring one mangled old toy mouse that she has ripped all the fur off of!! So it's now just a lump of plastic )

She loves string, show laces, boxes, empty loo rolls and kitchen rolls but she adores plastic bags (Sainsbury's in particular - she loves the orange bags?? ) Our house is a happy place when we get the online shop done, Amber spends hours playing with a pile of carrier bags... she hides under them, drags them around, rolls about in them and then crashes out for a nap on top of them

As for cat brushes, we bought some 20p tooth brushes from Morrison's and Amber will jump through hoops to get a brush from one of those!!
