We found that a 10 yr old cat loving girl works the best. You may have to borrow one occasionally

That's great, sadly I think it would last no more than 30 seconds before being shredded by my cat.

As someone else has already mentioned, Cat Laser Light Chasers are great fun!

So are Cat Chasers which you can get from pet stores (or make your own: Feathers/Ribbons tied securely onto a string – cats love chasing them - but you’ll have to do a lot of running around too!)

Organic Catnip tied up in an old sock

More homemade games:
Wriggling your hands under the duvet.
Large empty paper bags.
Crinkled up paper.
Cardboard boxes (when kitten is inside just scratch the outside of the box and he should try to follow the sounds with his paws).
Placing a ruler or pencil through a small gap(bottom of the door works well) and moving it from side to side so that your kitten can see it but can’t see you!

Good luck with your kitten. Great you are looking into a variety of toys and games for him. When Spyro becomes a grown up cat, I’m sure he’ll still really appreciate the games

Our Bobi is anyones for a plastic drinking straw! She carries them around forever and plays fetch with them. She particularly likes the green ones and we keep finding them under chairs and units. She's also quite fond of bits of screwed up paper and empty boxes.

The best cat toys are the things that are free. Paper, boxes, string. If you are brave your bare hands. If not try rolling a sheet of newspaper from corner to corner. Lick the end and then beat him until he rips it from your bleeding (literally) hands.

The crinkly plastic from DVDs-just make sure the silly beggars don't try and eat it.

Bendy straws-my two flick them about for ages.

Tiny bits of crumpled up paper.

Anything they can climb up-cats like the dimension of height as well as length/width, which is why they will leap to get away from each other, sometimes on to unsuitable surfaces-many an ornament has come to grief that way!

When we had the three kittens I built them a climbing frame. It was a simple wooden base. A box made from 4 pieces of ply wood about 3 foot long by half a foot with a top that fitted into the box. This meant that any extra cat toys could be put inside if you take the top off.

I got some metre lengths of carpet from a local shop and "stitched" the carpet on with rope through pre-drilled holes. I used rope so there would be no chance of the cats hurting their paws on nails or screws.

One piece each side of the base and lid and two around the sides. They loved climbing it, fighting on it or just sleeping on it.

Apart from the rope it cost nothing, just a few hours to put together (mainly the rope stitching) and saved £££s on letting them tear that apart and not our furniture.

They also like climbing up curtains and will do it if they know they can get away with it.

I've spent much money trying to please my youngest, to much avail. Her favourite toys are still bits of crumpled paper that she'll bring back to me and cardboard boxes. She is also fond of soft toy balls as well, as she can carry them around with her. Eldest will play with anything and everything, though he is quite fond of people's shoelaces whilst people are trying to tie them.

Our cat used to go mad for the plastic ring seals from milk/lucozade bottles etc. She used to knock them under the sofa then try and get them out again

I used to buy winnie little toys when she was a kitten..it's a waste of time. She'll happily play with screwed up bits of tin foil though! Loves it. she's a year old and still loves playing with tin foil.

This is our saviour when we're trying to get out of the front door in the morning! We have to quickly distract the kitties with the laser pen and then make a dash for it..then to realise we've forgotten to shut the bathroom window so we have to get in the flat again, without the cats legging it to the upstairs flat!!

Our cats love anything that dangles, the stringy bits on pyjamas are particular favourites!! They also love boxes, esp ones that have like flaps on the front that they can hide behind!

Boxes and plastic bags go down very well here

Buying cat toys isn't really worth it!

my little kitten loves toilet roll tubes!, plus i've made a cave out of an old cardboard box, i put little treats in there for him to find - he spends hours in it!

My kitten has a basket full of toys - probably about 50 or so. He isnt keen on some of them and like others have said, screwed up bits of paper are fun for them and mine will chase them and bring them back to me.
Jasper likes his bungee carrot which I got from sainsburys (about £1.50) or things with catnip in it. Also, he likes those body buff things and pinched one from my bathroom!
One of the best things I bought was a tunnel for him - it is actually a rabbit tunnel (from Pets At Home) - the cat tunnels are a lot shorter plus the rabbit one has a hole in the top so you can add other tunnels onto it - he loves hiding in it and waiting to pounce on me. The rabbit tunnels are a lot cheaper than the cat tunnels which is good - you dont have to spend a fortune on toys - I went a bit mad with toys when I got my kitten which in hindsight was a bit daft!

Same here, my Poppy just won't touch anything else. I've bought catnip toys, balls with bells in them... she's never interested. But watching me tie my shoe laces, that's another story.

Recently bought her a 3 tier scratching post/bed/play area to replace her knackered old post, and she's more interested in the box it came in.

Its pointless wasting money on cat toys.

Typical!

I'd go so far as to say that a cat's favourite toy is anything that's not supposed to be a toy. And they won't be convinced otherwise. Just tell them "it's not a toy" and they give you that "Bet you half a dollar" look.

That, "no human, you are an utter fool and I know all. Go get the Whiskas." look.

Actually, I did hear my cat playing with one of the dogs squeaky balls the other morning. Every time I went round to have a look at what she was doing, she was sat next to it with a very shifty look on her face...

My cat just loves a fresh mouse and when he's finished playing with it it makes a tasty snack!!
