Anton was kept on the show specifically for Ann there was never any doubt that he wouldnt get her as a partner. Quote:
It's not a punishment just an inevitable pairing. Anne will be good fun, she is the first one to laugh at herself and Anton is just happy to be there.

Its no punishment, he is going to have heaps of fun, even if it does turn out to be for a short time. One thing I noticed about Anne last night and that is she is a bloody good sport! Quote:
And has a very keen wit and quick tongue .

I love Anton - full of personality (as is Vincent!) so glad they are still there! My favourite two male dancers by a mile.
I think Anton and Ann will be tv gold!

The Swami Glenn Hoddle told me it was a punishment for what Anton did in a former life.

I think its for the "fun/comedy" factor, Ann seems to know her role and I'm sure it will leave Anton free to do other stuff around the beeb on the sidelines, such as his wall thingy.

Being with Ann ia not a punishment... they're gonna be on the show and very very long time - in fact he's probably got more chance with the comedy angle than the good dancing angle

I'm looking forward to watching them.
Anton will bring a light-heartedness to Ann that to me she hasn't experienced so far and he has a chance to show us his worth as a teacher. Whatever else, they are going to enjoy themselves and that should rub off on the viewers, hopefully. |

My only problem with this is that it was totally predictable, from the moment Ann's name was mentioned as a possible. Pairing her with Vincent, or ( and this is what I was secretly hoping for) James Jordan, would have been much more entertaining.
As for Ann being the comic relief this year, I think this may backfire unless she is well edited. John Sargeant was an experienced comedy performer (Cambridge Footlights) etc and had a lightness of touch, and comic timing that served as some sort of antidote to the dancing. Ann may well be hilarious, but she's no great ad-libber, as we saw in her chat with Tess last night |

Perhaps Anton survived the cull because it is part of his deal with the BBC along with Hole in the Wall. But they gave him Ann so that he wouldn't be in for long.

Of course it's unkind! How would you like to be described as being someone's 'punishment'? 'Oh look, Anton's got Bingoman, ha ha ha, that's his punishment for being mean to Laila last year'. It's a horrible thing to say about Ann or anyone else.

I would say they kept Anton to specifically have Anne as they knew it would be comedy gold and bring in the viewers

I don't think it's a punishment.
Anton is good at ballroom but hopeless at latin, and very good at getting/coaching the most out of celebs that are only ever going to be half-decent ballroom dancers. Which is why he and "Widdy" are a good match. They probably won't get very far, but hopefully she'll put in a couple of half-decent ballroom performances and everyone will be more or less happy. |

There are equally a lot of posters on the BBC Strictly Blog that are unhappy about Anton getting another likey duffer so I dont think he is short of support.

If he doesn't want to be the fall guy, then he should learn to do latin dances properly.
Although I like a good ballroom dance, it's the knockout latin dances that sell this show (think of Matt Di Angelo & Alesha's showdances in 2007). Any pro who can't dance latin dances to the required standard doesn't deserve to get a celeb partner who has the potential to win it. |

Anton has other irons in the fire with the BBC I'm sure, not just Hole in the Wall, my money is on him taking over from Brucie ... so he has been given a test or an easy ride in the form of the best comedy pairing ever in SCD. No offence to either Anne or Anton, but he is ever so tall and she is not, how he going to get her into a credible hold defies imagination and watching the introduction show it was clear that Anne was having slight problems with negotiating the stairs so goodness knows what will unfold upon the dance floor.
If its just down to the public vote this year I can see Anne staying in for quite a while just to wind up the judges!!! |

I'm most concerned about how he is going to manage to get her 'in hold' when he is about a foot taller than her! (apologies to all you youngies who think in metres
)Oops, sorry gnusteapot, didn't read you fully, don't want you to think I'm just ignoring you ...yes, what you said!
