Well having read some comments here, on one of the appreciation thread (no guesses which) and the BBC Blog from the same source as the appreciation thread, I feel extremely sorry for Jared. He is a 22 year old guy who applied for and was given a job on Strictly. The lines he said last night about being 'The new American boy' were a. written for him and b. completely true and would have been true even if Brian Fortuna had still been on the show because Jared is both new and American. I would like to point out that the said Brian Fortuna was only in Strictly for 2 series so can hardly be regarded in the same light as Matthew or Lilia who were indeed Strictly royalty both having won the trophy. I doubt very much that Brian would be happy about some of the nasty comments. Brian has gone its sad for those that were fans of his but it doesnt mean that its the fault of Jared and he doesnt deserve nastiness.
I have tried to defend him in there, with little success - obviously it is within their rights to not like Jared, like any other pro dancer though perhaps they could have done it in a nicer way. I like Jared as a person, he's a nice guy - though clearly his dancing isn't as strong as the other pros.

They are within their right not to like him, I guess its the way comments come across.

I'm not happy Matthew isn't in the Pro line up, but its not the new Pros faults at all.

I think its also difficult to judge them all based on one show - the real test will be in 3 weeks time!

Have to say with respect to Brian, its not as though he completely came across well in his first show - in fact I was uber put off him when they showed a VT basically saying how brilliant he is and how the other pros are crap (not in so many words) - however that was 1 show - Brian grew popular over time - same with the rest of the now popular pros.

So I find it slightly irratating people can draw such strong opinions from 1 hour of televion - I dislike James Jordan - however I'm basing that over 4 (?) series' worth of shows and behaviour. Jared seems to be getting flack from 1 throwaway comment, and with respect to the thread they are coming across slightly childish

I think if the new boys were not seen as replacements for Ian and Matthew there would be less discontent. But I do think we have been short changed

Having said that there is no excuse for being nasty to any of them. How horrible to come to a new country and get abuse

Of course it's within their rights, I didn't like him either. But to criticise him because of one comment that he's perfectly entitled to say because it's actually true, even if it does hit a nerve with some fans, is a little unfair in my opinion. He probably doesn't even realise how much of a furore there was over the axeing of the pros who have left.

Yes, I did think it was harsh of them to not like him because of one comment, which is factually correct. Probably in the heat of the moment they got carried away and said things more harshly than they intended.

Anyway, I personally think Artem and Robin are fantastic, and I'm hoping they get far in the competition as I think they could produce some great routines for their celeb. I'm not so convinced about Jared however.

I also seem to remember a great deal of upset when Brian and Kristina were introduced into the programme even though they were not actually replacing anyone as such....we have very short memories.

Haven't read this entire thread, as now SCD is upon us the board is moving much more quickly and I just don't have the time

I would agree that Jared is the weakest of the three new pros, although I'm sure he is a very nice peson, and I think I like Artem the best. The new male in the dance troupe looked OK to me, too.

I don't usually read ATs unless I want to "appreciate" a particular dancer, but I wonder if the posters on that thread are aware that negative posts are not permitted on App Threads? They could find their posts deleted if anyone was upset enough to complain.

Perhaps, although I saw a few comments about the Jordans in there as well which I thought were a bit off , but that's by the by, everyone's entitled to dislike people they just need to be aware that their comments are read by people who don't post in there, and although I get that they're all very biased (we all are if we have favourite pros), it shouldn't be to anyone else's detriment unless it's deserved, which was the main problem with the comments made about Jared, the harshness was undeserved.

Just out of interest, is there anyone who was convinced by Jared's performance who'd like to post a little about why they liked him, give the rest of us something to watch about him? I'm going to rewatch the show later and want to see if i can spot anything redeeming in his dancing this time!

I tried this afternoon to watch Jared but the crowded dance floor and/ or the constantly flaming changing camera angles scuppered that one so I'm looking forward to seeing him with Tina. On first impressions I thought that he was smaller than Aliona but he actually isn't, he just must be very slight.

Personality wise I liked Jared the best out of the newbies, but dance wise he did seem to be the weakest of the males. That said, it was one show and none of the dances last night impressed me. We'll see.

Yes exactly. It wasn't the most exciting evening dancewise. I wish people would give Jared more time to settle in. Wait for a couple of weeks of SCD to complete at least and then decide. It must have been nervewracking for him, and maybe being younger he was less practiced in handling it all.

Of the 3 I liked Robin the best. He's v cocky, but I liked his feistyness and it transferred into his dancing. (He's not the normal type I like!)

Weakest: Jared. Couldnt help but thinking to myself- imagine him doing an AT!!

Agreed that the dance troupe were a bit crappy.... it felt esp wrong seeing Ian in there! Didnt think too much of the new girls but its early days!

I'm reserving judgement on them all at the mo'. Quite often the ones I don't particularly like at the start, like Brian Fortuna in his early days, really grow on me after a while.
So sad he left the show.

As for the new girls, I happen to know that Crystal won the last SIngapore SCD show as the pro teacher. So hopefully all the newbies will blossom soon and show their true potential.

It appears the BBC is going for the juvenile female audience who like muscles and bare chests! I am afraid I found Robin most unattractive and no replacement for Ian!

I agree with the wait and see attitude also with regard to Jared- how anyone could make up their minds after Saturday is amazing. I don't think anyone stood out much for their dancing.

Jared used to partner Lacey from DWTS's didn't he? If I am right then he will be far from a weak dancer if he kept up with her!

Lets give them all a try and hope for a fab series

Yes, they were partners. They won the west coast swing championship and second in the youth Latin division I believe. Jared is a 10 dancer. I know people have been very harsh on him but I say give him a few more dances just to be fair. Let's see how he is with his celebrity.

I wasn't particularly impressed by the new men, but they seem to have plenty of experience. I found these on DS.

Robin Windsor http://bit.ly/9z9r7D

The bare chest/mesh shirt look is a huge turn off for me

I will wait to see what they dance like when the show starts for real.

The jury's still out with me on the new boys ...

However some initial pointers:

Artem - yes please ... (but very quiet, not sure he has the personality to get stern with Kara who I think might be this year's whinger). Nice body but not much personality at present. However I do think he has been paired with the correct pro (Katya). I think theirs may be a much better partnership than she had with Brendan. - Nice muscles but I might be a prude but don't like the tatooes... and not sure what Len's going to make of them!

Robin - sorry but he looks so weird - and yes I do know he looks similar to Artem but Robin looks a thug whilst Artem does not. He was a little cocky I thought in what we saw of him. Didnt like the face gurning though (brings back memories of Karen at her best!) but his personality seems ok. He was a tad of a lech though with Patsy and Im not sure how popular this pairing will be - but have a feeling that Robin could be the best teacher of the 3 of them. However, I do think his pro pairing with Kristina is inspired - from what we saw on Saturday night I think they will gell very well and will probably in the run be a better pro partnership than Kristina had with Brian. Well done BBC for getting a new "English" person on the show.

Jared - sweet and cutsey and totally and utterly out of his depth. The pictures I had seen beforehand (even the Twitpic from Erin) had made me think I would like Jared best, but sorry I really didnt "get" him. And I nearly spit out my coffee when I read the comments about him being Anton's son!... His dancing was poorly lacking I'm afraid specially during the new boys dance and putting him in the middle made the situation worse. I do however think he might gell with Aliona but she will always be able to out dance him in the pro numbers (I thought he was going to drop her in Live and Let Die). Do however think that this pro/celeb pairing might gell the best of the 3 newbies. However I do question how good a teacher Jared will be as he is SOOOOOOOOOO young. And sorry but Tina is already grateing on my nerves. And hope we really dont have to put up with back flips too often ...

Of the 3 of them I liked Artem best but will reserve judgement until I see them all teach and dance with a celeb.

I do however question the sanity of whoever it was who employed Jared unless we saw him on a bad day coz sorry his dancing was sadly lacking.

Well I would hope so, given the show hasn't actually started properly yet, you haven't seen them teaching or conversing with their sleb partners, and none of them has had a chance to show what they can do
