Yeah, the fact that she is judging Michelle is a bit silly.

I'm just annoyed that the only female on the panel is a non-"expert". (OK, the "we wuz" etc does rile me, but that's because I think it's deliberate.) They could easily have expanded to five judges and included someone like Karen (and not a Darcey Bussell type).

I'm amazed that the Alesha bashers are up and at her so quickly, I mean the girl only said about four words last night ! I agree with an earlier poster, I think that's why the boards were shut, the Alesha haters were absolutely vile last year, no boundaries, no common sense, nasty, it was a real hate campaign, I admire her for coming back on this year, shows a lot of spirit, afterall, when BF said, back by popular demand, the look on her face was one of pure irony. It shocked me last year that people who would want to watch a fairly froo froo show had so much venom. I've just signed up for Digital Spy so I'm hoping these moderators have teeth and will cut the 'bashers' so that everyone isn't infected with their particular brand of poison.

that is my gripe -IMO Bruno shoud not be there but that is balanced out by Len & Craig whom I do rate - if we are to have Alesha there shuld be another woman on the panel - I do hate AD but this pretendee judge malarky is not her finest hour

Good luck with that.
Clearly you weren't here last year....

So back to the original question, what is the point of Alesha?
Like it or not Strictly is primarily an entertainment programme, I know some say it is a dance compwtition and dancing is of course a major element of the programme but the bottom line is it is entertainment for the masses hence the saturday evening slot. Any "expert" dancer they put on the panel would still be outside the demographic because in order to be acknowledged as an "expert" they would have to have a number of years experience behind them. Hence the need from a programmers point of view to have a younger "celebrity" on the panel.
Alesha is there because otherwise the panel would have no appeal for many of the target audience, I have to say I didnt like her as a contestant and I liked her even less as a judge last year and yes the lazy way she talks does annoy the hell out of me and I am quite happy to say so. Alesha would be far less annoying as a judge if she stopped trying to be a dance expert and commented on how the competitors "performed" rather than commenting on the technicality's of dance she doesnt know enough, doesnt have enough experience to do that she could however be constructive in terms of commenting on how they came across in terms of performance

People can & should be able to express their dislike of someone or something without being called a hater.

This forum has to cater to everyone or it will cease to be a discussion forum.

I loved Alesha as a contestant & voted for her.
I really cannot tolerate her as a judge though.

We had all of this last year. Can't be bothered with it this year.I don't think Alesha should be on the panel, but she is. You're clearly a supporter. Let's just leave it at that.

Why don't you check the board out and see how many great sections and threads there are before focusing in on the negatives? The mods here do a very good job and are far more professional than the BBC ones, so why not just leave it up to them?

So you were a perfect poster on the BBC were you?

This is actually a well moderated board cmpared to the BBC.

Just from her commentary on the training on ITT, I think she would be an excellent judge.

Im aware of that thanks i dont need a lesson on this forum. It does however seem pointless to watch a programme just to hate on someone as did appear to be the case when i made that post last night, when some of the new posters made nothing but Alesha hate threads, the mods have removed a few of the threads made at 1/2am last night and Im sure they will continue to do so, was utterly ridiculous. That was what my post was referring to, but apparently you werent on and missed it.

(in the style of another reality TV "star") "Who is she? Who is she? Who does she think she is?

I've been trying to get to the bottom of the reason why I think she doesn't add to the proceedings and I can only think that it's her lack of expertise. Another poster suggested that an expert is necessarily mature and that the producers of the show wanted a younger judge - there must be hundreds of attractive young dancers (on the West End stage) who have reached a greater level of expertise than Alesha and who could join the judging panel. Moreover, these individuals wouldn't be accompanied by Alesha's baggage - she's a singer who dances a bit, not the other way round.

There's also a hint of the "My Fair Lady" in reverse with Alesha. She looks lovely, can sing and dance well but when she opens her mouth......OMG!

The trouble is that if she did moderate her speaking voice she'd probably alienate her core audience - I don't think Glasgow has ever forgiven Lulu for dropping her Scottish accent.

She was good as a contestant; not so much as a judge.

People are allowed to say what they want at least as long as it is withing the forum rules.

The only thing I would say is not to start 10 threads on the same topic (which is also part of the forum rules), and to maybe wait until she has actually judged this year. To clarify, I wasn't a fan of her judging last year and I wasn't actively supporting her when she was a contestant. However, maybe we should wait this year to see if her judging skills have improved, before we start judging her.

IMHO - Great posts CC.

This a very well-moderated board. Thankfully, it is not controlled by the BBC. So hopefully there won't be any bias or pressure from anyone associated with SCD to close certain threads because they don't like what they read.

It was fairly apparent last year that certain threads were closed pretty rapidly, probably because producers, agents etc were pressurising the BBC mods to do so. After the press printed bad reports and used quotes from the BBC boards last year, the press reported that a person involved had told their agent to make it stop.

Karen would be great. Lilia would also be fantastic, and she wouldn't even have to judge her husband this year. ()

No one is saying that others cant post a negative opinion here, they (along with myself) are simply asking for maybe all the hate/dislike for one person/incident be kept to a few threads rather than 10 all about the same thing.

Surely its not that difficult and people can understand the difference between posting in a few threads and having their say and not across the whole board making new threads every few mins on the same subject we're not saying people cant dislike someone just at least try and keep it in a few places. The mods here are by far, some of the best and fair.

The SCD forum has always had multiple threads as it can be very fast moving on the night of the shows.

The mods do merge them though.

There is a search function on these boards which the Beeb one lacked. So less of an excuse for multiple threads with the same (or similar) topics.
