Amanda Holden confirms 'no X Factor next year'

Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has confirmed what many suspected - that there will be no X Factor series in the UK next year.

In an interview at the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2010, the 39-year-old actress and presenter let slip her inside knowledge of Simon Cowell's plans.

"There's loads of changes afoot next year, I know that there's no more X Factor - well, at least for next year", she said.

The X Factor is set to launch in the US in September next year, and it is thought Simon Cowell is keen to focus on the American series.

The rumour is that the UK series would be shifted forward by six months, starting in March 2012.”

That's a shame if true.

I don't think I'd like the shift in time, I always associate X Factor with the end of the year/week before Christmas, and I like that it's near that time of year.

I suppose this opens up the Christmas No.1 contest again though

Autumn. It'll be longer and most likely to end with a world talent competition.

I understood from Simon's interview which aired on the Steve Wright show a couple of days ago, that he wasn't giving up on X-Factor, but the next series might not start until early 2012, rather than summer 2011.

He also said he was trying to get Christmas moved as well so that he could still have a go at the Christmas number one - but I am fairly sure that bit was tongue in cheek (although you never know for sure with Simon Cowell!)

The Steve Wright interview from September 10 is up on the tube. He talks about it there.

But in the US they already have American Idol and XF is basically the same thing. Why would Simon need to devote any more time to it over there than he already does?

well if they are replacing it with britains got talent then i think that will be quite good, but they are going to need some new judges and good ones at that young stars, big names and they need the revamp the show abit too because i dont think it will work with the semi finals being all in one week because it will either start too late in the year or end too early.

Did this story ever get verified from another source, or is it just a rumour at this stage? I mean, Amanda Holden isn't actually involved in X Factor, so she might have jumped to the wrong conclusion or been misquoted or whatever.

I laugh at the idea that Amanda Holden has "inside knowledge" of anything.

I thought Simon said that money had been made available by ITV to improve the show, in which case it would go ahead.
