My take on what little we have heard from Gavin is that after the training for the group dance, his idea that being quick on his feet and can run fast should help him went out the window - and he has realised what he has let himself in for!

Must admit I'm a bit puzzled at him taking part. His rugby career is not exactly over is it? I know he's said he's had problems with a recurring injury, but he has always said he has absolutely no intention of quitting the game - even now he is saying he'd rather be playing rugby than being on SCD. I don't see either how doing SCD will help with the injury. He hasn't played for ages and I wondered if the real problem is not physical, especially given the difficulties in his private life. This is a very interesting article and interview (I do love Scott Johnson - he always makes me smile for some reason ).

I also wonder if after SCD he will end up starting afresh at Wasps.

Nothing wrong with having a kind heart. I'm a rugby girl at heart and am totally biased towards the Welsh - I love them - but Gavin strikes me as being a bit dumb. I hope I am pleasantly surprised by the real Gavin emerging from beneath the St Tropez and hair gel.

Sadly so far every utterance of his has been daft. Let's see

I think he should have stuck with the rugby union too. Could always have done SCD later.........

I think that you are probably right I caught the programme on ITV '71 degrees north' the other night and he is in that. He swam further than any of the other 'celebs' in a freezing Norwegian Fjord (sp?) - so perhaps his brain and other bits are still recovering It has obviously affected his power of speech!! x

I am open to correction and he may well thaw out and surprise us all by being a right little chatterbox, but right now I think he is a bit of a limp fish .

I listen to Talk Sport radio quite a bit and Darren Gough does the drive in programme every day. They were discussing Gaven today as he has been signed for Wasps.
They said oh it will be best if he goes out early then.

Darren Gouch said - trust me with that body he will be in for a good six weeks the women will love him
Just thought you might want to know that!!

Also I read somewhere that there was an upset with Charlotte about the children (do not know how true that is) just before the launch and he was very upset. If that is true it may have affected him.

Hmm .

Wasps have not signed him or approached him .
Gavin said so in an interview broadcast on BBC Wales TV and Radio today.
He also said Strictly was "the last thing I wanted to do , but nothing else was sorted out ( ie rugby) and so I took the decision to do it ".

That , and some of the other wild statements he made , have caused rather a brouhaha in Welsh rugby circles .

Ex Wales captain Dr Gwyn Jones said if it was the last thing he wanted to do why on earth sign up to do it !

As for Ospreys , they gave him leave of absence to go off and do his thing so to speak; he has had numerous injuries and the initial break form rugby was to recover and then he asked to have a longer break from playing .It was unpaid and has lasted 18months , now today he was griping about not being paid and not being asked to play and he wants to get out of his contract with ospreys and live in London for 9 months

He is a conundrum , an arrogant young man when it comes to rugby , who believes he will be back in the Welsh team which " has missed " him within 2 games of returning .
He certainly didn't want to do SCD , not at all, but surely needs the money now he doesn't have Ms Church behind him .

he said in the interview for money ,

watched the the programme tonight he seems to be gutted that his relationship broke down and that his children are being bought up by another fella, unfortunetly fact of life but still hurts (know from experience)

Hope he gets to half way then he can go and play rugger !

Sounds like a petulant little boy, or - even worse - a footballer!

You actually need character to become a favourite on SCD with the GDP. If this is the real Gavin he'll make a complete prat of himself.

I watched that programme too and posted about it on another thread earlier today, saying I thought it was a very enlightening interview, as it's not that often you hear someone speaking so honestly and openly (some might say naively). I also said he's got himself in a bit of a pickle really, so I liked the fact he is being so up front by doing that interview, as it could open lines of communication for him. The interview was only recorded on Wednesday night and broadcast last night and sure enough, in the news this afternoon we hear which clubs are or aren't interested in him. He made it clear in the interview he would return to Ospreys if that was what he had to do, but it isn't what hew would prefer to do for personal reasons.

His problems have clearly not all been physical and I'm not going to judge him for how things have gone in the last year or two. He certainly didn't come over to me as arrogant or petulant. He also made it quite clear he was not complaining about anything and accepted responsibility for his actions.

Tbh he went up a bit in my estimation and I laughed at his response about his waltz and training so far!

PS One of his concerns about going back to Ospreys is about the attitude of the other players towards him. Given some of the interviews I've heard today, maybe he has a point.

At least he doesn't seem to be under any illusions as to his talent (or lack of) in dancing. However, I couldn't believe his arrogance saying it would only take him 2 or 3 games to prove he was back to his best - WTF after 18 Months out of the game.

To be fair, he didn't say that exactly. He said ".. to prove himself.." and "...that people would be surprised...".

Sorry it still came across as incredibly arrogant to me. It's also stupid as it will also put pressure on him as & when he does return. If he doesn't play well then he will get all sorts of criticism when all logic suggests that he should really be given time to prove himself.

Silly boy.

he needs to get out of wales for his own sanity. He's been heavily critiscised in the past by the welsh media so its easy to understand why he wants to get out of the goldfish bowl.
He would be an asset to any rugby club for his unique and mercurial talent - the media profile would be a bonus too.
I'm not a huge fan of the whole media frenzy, fake tanned celebrity culture that's creeping into rugby but if gavin can rekindle previous form or even improve his game, then i'm glad he's back in the game.
Not sure about his dancing though!

I can see why you think that, as he certainly comes across to me a troubled guy. He clearly has his perception about his situation, but how close that is to reality is a different matter. What came over to me was he didn't want to face the other Osprey players until he was back on top of his game - and to do that he needed to play somewhere else for a time, preferably in London to be near his family. He wants to be out of Wales for a while. I agree too that he is now putting huge pressure on himself to come back with a bang. It could all go horribly wrong.
