It appears to be all the male celebs training clips we're getting with the exception of Michelle.... I'll guess we'll get a female tomorrow.

Oh thanks, she looks alright actually.

Though something's bugging me - can anyone PLEASE tell me the name of that song in the background? It's been on my mind for ages lol

Not really relevant to week 1, but I'm putting it in here now so we don't forget.

Aliona just tweeted Matt to say they've got the Foxtrot song she liked - so I think we can guess that everyone doing cha cha week 1 has the Foxtrot for week 2 (so that's Matt & Aliona, Paul & Ola, Michelle & Brendan, Jimi & Flavia and Godlie & Kristina so far....)

In the last two series' they have paired the Foxtrot with the Salsa so that could possibly be the next latin dance, although i think alot of people would like it to be the Rumba just so we can see Ann dance it

I understood it was already known to be Foxtrot and Rhumba the 2nd week - or did I dream that?

I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere, first I'd heard it was Foxtrot was Aliona's tweet!

I'd rather have salsa or jive than rumba, would be nice to see the rumba done a few weeks furthe into the competition this year - it's almost always first/second week!

I get the feeling that Foxtrot/Waltz and Cha Cha/Rhumba are the early dance choices because they can convey if a celeb has picked up the basic rhythms, holds and totally different 'vibes' (can't think of the word I'm looking for here ) of the 2 dance disciplines without taxing their stamina too much before they've built it up fully.
That way each celeb has to have learned something from the experience no matter the age or level of fitness.

I thought it was Cha-Cha/Foxtrot and Waltz/Rumba as well. Maybe I'm delusional lol.

I don't really like it when they do the jive too early - it's a dance that requires so much performance, and such an understanding of the real basic things about dance (point your toes, keep your limbs straight, keep light, smile!) that doing it too early can mean a lot of people don't perform as they should.

I say get the rumba out the way and have done with it

EDIT: Apologies if any of those things don't apply to the jive. I am not a ballroom dancer!

In series 6, only Tom, Austin and Gary danced the Jive as their 2nd dance (week 3) - 2 of whom turned out to be the best males in the competition, Gary was eliminated on it. (Maybe Gary was thought to have potential too except he didn't train )
The Jive didn't come up again till week 7 for Rachel - another one of the competition's elite.
(Week 8 - Christine, week 9 - Jodie eliminated on it, week 12 - Lisa)

In series 7, Joe, Zoe, Craig, Ricky G, Laila, Ali and Chris danced the Jive in week 5 with Joe being eliminated on it - 3 of them were in the final 4.
(Week 7 - Natalie, week 8 - Jade, week 9 - Ricky)

So, it certainly separated the wheat from the chaff!

Ta vm for the stats. They put me in my place timing-wise - I think I was thinking more of some earlier series - didn't Louisa and Vincent do the jive very early on (OK, OK, they were good)?

I think, however, my point about jive being done too early in the competition making the dance poor still stands, as a general rule.

I would argue that of the people who were some cop in series 7, none of them did a particularly good jive, although I don't really think there was a stand-out one last series generally. Certainly Ali suffered from it being one she tackled early on (before Brian got the hang of 'less is more'), and so did Chris (before he calmed down a bit).

IMHO the jive was the first real sign that Laila should have been nowhere near the final 4, but that's just me

That's your opinion, fair enough, it's certainly not everyones. Don't turn a thread about this year into a Chris-bashing one please. He won, that's all there is to it, and whether he deserved it or not is frankly irrelevant to the point the poster was making.

And yes, Chris' jive was bad, but clearly some people liked it! (I'm not one of them though, I can't watch it!)

Both Jill and Louisa first danced the Jive in week 3, and they were the best Jives ever IMO.

I agree, but as ex-stage school students they both had previous dance training. Louisa was only 17 and barely out of stage school and even the judges admit Jill's previous experience was a factor. They are at the top end of the scale and not exactly the average.

Apologies - that was never my intention

I had hoped to make the point that the Jive is not normally an early dance unless the celebs dancing it have shown some merit.
Or perhaps it's by request - I know it's the dance I always grew up wanting to learn properly.

(That's me the famous great dancer )
