Why don't they include a free disc of your choice with every new purchase of a Blu Ray player ?
It might tempt people into making the plunge into Blu Ray.
I think there would be a lot more players sold !
Mind you, maybe they would higher the price of a player by around £20 !

If you have a look around some players offer 4 or 5 discs with a purchase.
I know for a fact that there is one in Blockbuster and HMV at the moment.

When I bought my first CD player there was no CD not even a sampler and that format was a hell of a lot scarser than Blu-ray is now

When I bought a Sony Bluray player it had a voucher for a free Spiderman Trilogy and POTC Trilogy.

I duly ordered my freebies before returning the player to Amazon as it was junk.

I replaced it with a PS3 which came without any discs .

The free Blurays took several weeks to arrive.

I replaced the PS3 with a Panasonic mulitregion player - again no free discs.

I then added a slim PS3 to the system and this came with 2 Blurays but the package was about £20 dearer than a slim on its own although Amazon Warehouse had one with a damaged box so I got a 250Gb model for £180 then sold the 2 Blurays for over £20 so it was a great deal.

The biggest bugger is not free discs - its the fact that no players come with an HDMI lead supplied so when you finally get the player you have no way to actually get HD images from it unless you go and buy a separate lead .

Now thats a con- everyone needs a lead - the free films may be ones you don't want

Yep, and these kind of redemption or inbox offers alway cause hassle for the retailer and manufacturer. Also, nothing is free, so someone somewhere is paying the price for the "free" offer... and it ain't going to be manufacturer or retailer

I think the Sony player was £200 when I got it from Amazon so I thought the prospect of the Spidey and Pirates films free was a great deal because they were expensive at the time.

Funnily enough only a week before I got the Sony player I had a Toshiba HD DVD player and I sent off for the 5 free discs on that too but a couple of days after getting the player Warner dropped the format which was the final nail in the coffin so I returned the player and changed it for the Sony Bluray.

Of course when the HD DVD's arrived a few weeks later I had to sell them off as I had nothing to play them on but my entrance into the HD disc market did get me some good deals because of all the changes

I think it was a Blu-ray industry organisation promotion as a few other brands had similar offers. They did the same with the advent of DVD I recall, to encourage uptake of the format.

The Sony Blu-ray player I bought + discount + free disks was a great bargain.
