I'm referring to being suspended on wires for Tango moves. Groundbreaking novelty or flashy-trashy?
I wondered if the other dancers were enacting a tug-of-war drama beneath them, like trying to pick carcasses off the butcher's cold-store rail for their chest freezers.
Did this go to plan or did they get caught up in the wires like a bad Hong-Kong movie? Does a crouching Tiger mean a Hidden Turd? Do even I care? etc

It seemed a bit change-for-changes-sake. It was something different, but it should have been obvious it didn't work, yet they kept it in.

I hope they start to put quality above change.

Pantomime Come Dancing

It lasted 20 seconds max.
What a waste of time and money.

Pinching the idea from Dancing On Ice - except that they practice the 'wire' routines on that show for many hours. V&F looked like they had practiced for less than an hour!

There's a saying in the dance world : "No one notices what you don't do, but they do notice what you do badly....." And, of course, they never forget what you do badly!!!

I didn't think it was that bad

I don't think it was bad at all but i also don't think it was needed.

on the scd site (i think it was there) V&F say they wanted to do somethings like that for ages and were really keen to do it. They said it was really tricky because they didn't have the floor to work off / keep steady.
as long as it doesn't come into the show dances but more a one off i don't mind!

I agree it wasn't bad. But it was a bit nothing imo. There was either 20 seconds too much of it or not nearly enough.
(If that makes sense.)

Hmm...

What next?

Dancing in a cage with lions?

The BBC is turning this dance programme into a circus.
It beggars belief the amount of money we pay the "suits" that come up with these ideas.

The launch show was the right time to do something a bit spectacular and I liked it. I'm not sure anything like that will be done again because Flavia and Simone ended up with nasty groin bruises from wearing the harnesses. I guess the leg movements of the dance were not ideal when using a harness like that. I've heard other performers say it is painful or uncomfortable to wear.

I'd guess they'd no choice.
The BBC has been quite ruthless with their firing of dancers.

Sad really, what has become of this once more "civilised" entertaining programme.

I didn't like any of the dance it was way too flashy, I guess that's what happens when you replace substance with style.

And to the same song DOI used as series opener a couple of years ago - with Torvill & Dean descending from the ceiling in a chandelier in that one. No reason why both shows can't use the same music but I can't help but feel the routines themselves should be different.

They're dancers, not puppets.
It was very Las Vegas and not very Strictly.

No, I didn't like it.

Didn't mind the suspended dancing as a one off, but please let's not have any more gimmicks:

jiving on pogo sticks
sambaing on high wire
paso doble on horseback
foxtrot on roller skates
underwater rumba

and so on.............

Great idea! Very Mills and Boon! Brendan would be so up for this. After his Series 2 Dracula Paso this is definitely the next logical step.

Or how about a theme like DWTS do? You know, 80's paso etc.
We could have:

Thatcher Era Samba?
World War 2 Streetdance?
Elizabethan Jive?

I think you'll get an Elizabethan jive from Ann and Anton anyway. They won't need it to be a theme. Everything Ann does will be very genteel.

Or is it just Anton's choreography that is from that era?

I think Flavia said it was her and Vincents idea.I think they always like to do something to stand out from the other pros, but I agree was just pointless.

Well they're standing out now alright, cos they're the only ones with bruised groins.

Except for Pammie (I've Got An Ology) Stephenson-Connolly (in case you've forgotten who my husband is) who has shaved her privates, and Jared (ouch I'm dancing with Aliona nuff said) and Katya (whoops my partner is Gavin "Woody" Henson) and Robin (ouch it's Krotchtina but she's only playing about cos she loves Joe) and Poor Ola (cos that's where the Gnome's nose is) and Amazonian Natalie (ditto re Brendan's nose) and even ANTON cos that's where Ann's *ahem* chest area hits him.

Going to be lots of bruised groins around soon. Tess promised us more sex - this is going to hamper things a bit.
IMO of course.

I always smile when I read; "it was the dancer's idea," like some of the duff choices in music.

"Eleanor Rigby" comes immediately comes to mind. No pro dancer in their right mind would choose some of the "more contemporary" music that has progressively been included in this show.

The dancers do and say what they're told.
Thos who haven't in the past don't get their contract renewed.

Oh go on. We're searching for one on the Non-Appreciation thread at the mo but no inspiration. I'll just steal yours.

Flavia did say in an interwiew that they had wanted to do it for a while, and decided on it this series....maybe they suggested it to the producers and they thought it a good idea.Vincent and Flavia always seem to do something or other different from the other pros. They always do showdances of their own, aswell as their AT...maybe they like to be noticed that little bit more than the other pros.
