The Maths Don't Add Up

Anyone more in the know than I am:

I've been preparing my wee charts as always for the series and if, as has been mentioned, the 1st elimination is the 2nd week of the series, by the time we get to week 12, (18th December and should be the Final) we will still have 4 couples left.

Is there going to be an extra show, perhaps on Christmas Eve or are we having a 4 couple Final?

They usually show the Christmas Special on Christmas Day

Judging by previous years, in all probability someone will drop out for one reason or another. If not then it gives them the option to have a double elimination. Tbh I always wondered why they didn't do this before.

have you taken into account the Friday show before the semi final?

I already did a thread on this - my belief is that they have actually done a contingency as the average age suggests that someone will drop out (again)

I think they will be planning a double elimination on the Semi Final weekend if no one has already pulled out. But you never know!

After four straight years of someone pulling out early, what doesn't add up for me is that it's taken them this long to do this. It's a lot easier to have a double elimination to drop the number to three for the final than it has been in the past to have a week without an elimination to get three in the final.

I totally agree...its ridiculous that there's been nearly as many 2 person finals as 3 person finals. I can't believe its taken this long.

Too true. And one of those 3 couple finals was by default after the series 6 semi final voting cock-up.

There's been more :

2 couple finals : Series 1, 4, 5, 7
3 couple finals : Series 2, 3, 6

Although admittedly in Series 1 it was intentional. Personally I've never been convinced that two couple finals are worse than three couple ones (Series 6 was an incredibly dull finale for instance), and don't see why people think it's so obvious that three couple ones are better that the BBC should make a contingency plan to make sure they happen, and that it's been a major failing that they haven't.

But I know I'm in the minority.

I think it's all to do with content and 2 couples having to provide that - 3 couples sharing the load gives us variety and the couples a breather!

Well, compared to the 2 we got last year, at least it was memorable!

I remember Cola's last year very well and feeling good about it - the point is not many could bear to look at much of L&B's.just after their dinner.

If I was either of them, I'd rather it had been forgotten totally or preferably never happened in the first place.

One thing though - Brendan's got guts

I thought it was more that Lisa had guts and unfortunately you could see most of them during that showdance in a way you wouldn't expect.

It made me remember that I never wanted to be a gynecologist.

Really? I have barely any recollection of it at all! (Trying to remember did I even bother to watch - couldn't stand Lisa!) Team Cola's, on the other hand, I remember very well!
