Ultimately, the song just caught on. You can't argue it's success otherwise. It has held up very well considering he released in a competative week and lots of tracks by major artists were released last week. If the majority of his sales were coming from girls that wanted to see him naked....he would've dropped out of the top 20 by now.
As far as the co-writes go...neither of us know how much he contributed to the songs on his upcoming album. What we do know is that he's a brand new artist so he won't get the luxury of sticking his name on a song he's only changed a word or 2 in the lyrics. Only big name artists can do that and the writers of the songs allow them to because of their status and popularity as guaranteed hitmakers. He must've contributed to the lyrics, vocal arrangements, melodies to warrant co-write credits at this early stage in his career.
The whole naked thing started off as a joke, he hasn't appeared naked anywhere and he won't. It still has very little to do with why his single has done very well.”
Sorry but how can Westlife do both then? Westlife was in the same situation but they ended up doing both gigs. Explain this. Also, the other part that annoys me about it is Olly's own handling of it. Didn't even make it up to his fans, and say sorry personally, but let management handle it when clearly fans were upset.
He is coming off X Factor as runner up and its his first ever single, of course it will be #1. Again, I never expected Katy Perry to beat him because of (1) Katy Perry is a US artist and didn't do any promotion for the song (hers wasn't even available physically), and (2) as always his fans will buy it the most the first week. So compare the UK promotion of Olly's and Katy's, you will find that Olly's record label spent a fortune compared to Katy right?
I think what is telling about his song is after one week, "Teenage Dream" went to #2 and "Dynamite" went to #3, songs that have been released the week and 3 weeks ago, respectively. While his went to #4.
Sorry, again there is no way to know how much he contributed, but given that he gave no indication about his musical ability during X Factor, let's be fair and say it probably was not much.
If it was a joke, why go through with it? He dug himself in a hole and that is his own fault if he wants to look foolish. When I found out, I ask why would you downgrade yourself to that level? Again, you don't see any credible artist do that do you?
