I seriously doubt it had any bearing on his chart success whatsoever.

Honestly, I know DS forum members are known for over-analysing everything, but the accusations of a marketing ploy are frankly quite pathetic.”

And that would be a fair enough explanation of how he ended up in that position. Except it doesn't explain this:

Quote:
“He said: "If the second single goes to Number One, we can get some lucky heat readers to get in bed and I'll be naked. It would be a wicked shoot."”

From the Sun article. You would have thought he would have learned his lesson, no?

Oh gosh, you are not one of those silly people who bought the song just to see the naked shoot are you? I saw far too much thank you, surely you didn't expect Olly to have his sasuage out, you are aware Heat isn't on the top shelf right?

Oh yeah of course, it was all just a joke lol. And that is why he is doing it for a second time right!

And come on, the amount of people I have seen say they bought the song just to see Olly naked and they don't even like him, his music or the song in general. So I am sorry, I don't believe for a second that his promise for a naked shoot didn't help sales and to get that number 1.

I would love an explanation too, I just don't see it.

Olly admitted getting a spray tan and using hair removal cream around his nipples before posing for the shoot.
He said: "If the second single goes to Number One, we can get some lucky heat readers to get in bed and I'll be naked. It would be a wicked shoot."

He'll get a nasty shock if the winner is Mr Jeebie, wait and see what happens to Olly if he tries any of that nipple/hair removing nonsense with him........now that would make an interesting Heat photoshoot, with Olly wearing his conkers as earings!

Also, Isn't it kind of too much of a coincidence that this whole brother hating him happened in the same week that his single is being release? I mean this whole brother story happen last year in Nov, so why is it now that it is published.

Also, sorry but co-writing does not mean anything. Even when an artist changed a couple of words or title, it's supposedly co-writing. And you know that is what happened. Don't get me wrong, he probably helped out, but the idea, production, and main parts of the written song were not done by him. He might have added things here and there, but let's not play it off as bigger than what it really is.

And this whole "I will get naked if I get #1" is desperate and pathetic tbh. What real artist, starting or current does that??? He really didn't put himself in a good light there to be taken seriously right. I mean if Cheryl Cole did that, I will buy 100 copies of what every she is selling and I am not buying it for the music. ”

His schedule is handled by his label and management. If they felt that doing the TV promo is more important...they will cancel his other commitments. He has no say in that sort of thing. It's also the managements responsibility to handle issues with any cancellations. It's unfair to hold that against him as i'm sure he would've been happy to do the gig.

Ultimately, the song just caught on. You can't argue it's success otherwise. It has held up very well considering he released in a competative week and lots of tracks by major artists were released last week. If the majority of his sales were coming from girls that wanted to see him naked....he would've dropped out of the top 20 by now.

As far as the co-writes go...neither of us know how much he contributed to the songs on his upcoming album. What we do know is that he's a brand new artist so he won't get the luxury of sticking his name on a song he's only changed a word or 2 in the lyrics. Only big name artists can do that and the writers of the songs allow them to because of their status and popularity as guaranteed hitmakers. He must've contributed to the lyrics, vocal arrangements, melodies to warrant co-write credits at this early stage in his career.

The whole naked thing started off as a joke, he hasn't appeared naked anywhere and he won't. It still has very little to do with why his single has done very well.

Sorry but how can Westlife do both then? Westlife was in the same situation but they ended up doing both gigs. Explain this. Also, the other part that annoys me about it is Olly's own handling of it. Didn't even make it up to his fans, and say sorry personally, but let management handle it when clearly fans were upset.

He is coming off X Factor as runner up and its his first ever single, of course it will be #1. Again, I never expected Katy Perry to beat him because of (1) Katy Perry is a US artist and didn't do any promotion for the song (hers wasn't even available physically), and (2) as always his fans will buy it the most the first week. So compare the UK promotion of Olly's and Katy's, you will find that Olly's record label spent a fortune compared to Katy right?

I think what is telling about his song is after one week, "Teenage Dream" went to #2 and "Dynamite" went to #3, songs that have been released the week and 3 weeks ago, respectively. While his went to #4.

Sorry, again there is no way to know how much he contributed, but given that he gave no indication about his musical ability during X Factor, let's be fair and say it probably was not much.

If it was a joke, why go through with it? He dug himself in a hole and that is his own fault if he wants to look foolish. When I found out, I ask why would you downgrade yourself to that level? Again, you don't see any credible artist do that do you?
