Well I must say that was the most enjoyable first of the series that I've seen. I don't know half of the celebs but I liked the rapper very much. And the basketball player did very well - he should have had a taller partner but they coped well.
Much as I love Derek I do think that Jennifer Grey is pushing things too far, way too much experience, she's danced with Patrick Swayze FGS. They'll be having John Travolta on next. |

Life would be so boring if everything was the same everywhere - Viva la difference!! I say!
I do have one real big MOAN though - and that is that American Smooth is only danced in America .... I really really wish it was taken seriously (competitions etc) in UK as well, as I think some of the dances are beautiful, and so much fun to dance. So glad DWTS is back. I love that it's so much fun and the band and costumes so much better, but I will always watch SCD - with the added help of the Mute button and Sky+ to fast forward the dodgy bits

I so agree with you. I actually trained in American style ballroom and I much prefer it to the UK style. American Smooth is such a wonderful dance and I also love West Coast Swing. I find the American style much freer and more creative - but that's just me!

Did you train for the AS dances in UK or US? I know they can be learnt in uk but there is no scope for competition unless you cross 'the pond' which makes competing a tad expensive!
I trained with American teachers in London, but I have never bothered with competitions. (I had had quite enough of the endless exams & training with classical ballet!). I trained as an AS teacher instead, but eventually left that to go into the media - which is what I do now. These days for me it's all about son/salsa and Argentine Tango (in Europe preferably!) and I rarely get to foxtrot - English or American style
