Is my TV possessed?
I bought (well got a loan for) a brand new 55" Samsung LED TV a few months ago - however in the past few days it has being turning itself on randomly.
For example last night, about 10 minutes after going to bed and putting everything on standby - it played it's little tune when you turn it on and when I went downstairs - it was on the screen when the Sky box and amp are off, i.e.( the no signal being received screen saver). It works fine otherwise - is this just a glitch or should I call in a Catholic priest (didn't the TV keep turning itself on in Poltergeist?) |

Sounds like it probably needs a software update, it's a common problem on Samsung.
Or if it's one that has silly little 'touch' buttons on the set (like the 50 inch Plasma's), these commonly fail as well. |

What time of night did it happen? What was on the screen when it was switched on? If it happened in the middle of the night you may be onto something

If it always happens at the same time at night it may be erroneously turning itself on for an over-the-air update. Our Panasonic makes a 'click' at 15:05 and 03:05 every day as it checks for new software.
Or could it be an auto-on timer is set? |

I had the same with my Sammy. I had an external hard drive plugged in to watch films from. I couldn't work out why it would randomly turn itself on. The Hard Drive was a powered one and I hadn't turned the power off. This caused the TV to turn on by itself. Since turning the Hard Drive Off the problem has not reoccurred.
So maybe it's one of your peripherals causing the problem.... |
