It probably is, though the judges would be confused when their notes say "bad singer, laugh and torment them" and someone comes on with a decent voice. I would love it if someone tried to do that. Course, you wouldn't be shown on TV, and the confusion would be cut if you were.
For the majority of people I speak to, they cite the auditions bit as their favourite part of the show for "the really bad people who are deluded that think they can sing." Truth is, the show misses out the part where the singers' attitudes are reinforced across the preliminary stages. As a result, I hate this part of the show. If they're self-aware of how bad they are, then that's even more tedious.
