It looks like the split series next year will be called Series 6 & Series 7, confirmed on the front cover of friday's DWM:http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KTJWhtuRLa...600/dwm426.jpg

Don't know why I feel so bad about it. Perhaps I've gotten used to the excitement of 1 13 part series a year

But hey, it might do wonders for the ratings

all it is is a promotional ploy to sell two big boxsets at £40. Also instead of marketing it as series 6 part 2 they can do double hype, which in my opinion is gonna do more damage then good.

link doesn't work i am afraid.

but i would love to see a link to a source stating there will be two separate box sets next year if such a source exists, otherwise not sure what your comment is based upon tbh!

You seriously telling me you expect the BBC to put all thirteen episodes out in one box when as stated they are marketed as series 6 and 7. My post is based on what I believe to be a way to make the profit. They would not have made this decision simply on the back off 'storytelling purposes' and game changing cliffhangers. Whats in it for the people who are out to make the money - nothing.

Another probable reason is they were running behind schedule and couldn't get all thirteen episodes finished in time.

I think it's likely that DW will get an increased budget if there are two series next year, despite how short thay will be. With the budget reduction last year, it's possible that the new format fits the storytelling better, and will give DW a chance to tell stories in more "improbable" locations

no idea, but unless there is any evidence to suggest it is happening that way i see no point in making allegations that something you don't know is happening is the only reason for them doing something.

They are filming the series now, started the same time as always and they do not appear to be behind in any way shape or form. Last year, however, they were behind but still managed to make it on air in on time.

Reasons have been given for the split that are perfectly valid creative decions. If your going to allege these aren't true at least try and find a shred of evidence to support them, which you have, thus far, totally failed to do.

I very much doubt this will be the case. I would think if anything they will have to be more cost effect than last year. Although no one knows for sure outside of the show, it's widely believed cuts in the region of 3% over 3 years is what the show is facing - not a massive reduction, but a reduction nonethless. I feel that they would just have had the same money to divide as they see fit across the two series.

I imagine people might initially be a bit unhappy about a shorter series in the spring, but then this time next year we will most likely be counting down to more DW (and not just one xmas episode) and i think that will turn most of the fans who are down about it around, tbh.

Look online the christmas special script was delayed. Also the reason for Matt Smiths costume change was because they were filming in there words a little later then usual.

Sadly business isn't run on creative decisions, them wanting a mighty cliffhanger doesn't change bbc scheduling there not gonna turn round and say "yeah we just want to make more £££".

there were rumours it was going to be delayed but it actually started on time in the end.

Matt Smiths costume change was ages ago, he had the fitting before the screening for the finale of series 5.

Is it worth pointing out DWM called the last series series 1, ergo it is unlikely they'll call the next one series 6.

lol, but hasn't SM himself said they will be called series 6 and 7? I am sure he did when he first talked about the split...

So by the time we reach the latter half of 2011, Moffat will have complimented his tenure with one big mindf***. I suspect many will wish to keep it as Series 6, so basically, depending on how you look at it all, it could be called Series 32, Series 33, Series 6, Series 7, Series 2, Series 3, Series Fnarg2 or Series Fnarg3

I personally think it should all be called Series 6, but then I have OCD and am concerned about the growing unevenness in my DVD collection, so I have a valid reason

Good job the BBC isn't a business then.

Is this not now similar to the way Top Gear is made, 6 or 7 episodes filmed and shown while they are off making the next 6 or 7 to be broadcast later in the year?

Now, I feel a cross over coming on. Can we have replacement Stig racing the TARDIS around the Top Gear test track. He might even arrive before he left!

In a ridiculous twist we could have Vicki BH as the Stigs assistant. The Stig could turn out to be the last of the Car Lords and regenerate on a periodic (driven by autobiography publishing schedule) basis - Perry and Ben would, of course, be seen at all unofficial and non franchise Conventions.

I have never watched nor collected the old series (apart from a story with Jon Pertwee and the Autons, and a Patrick Troughton and Daleks story. Not to say I won't ever get into it, but seeing as the previous 'Nu-Who' series have began from the term 'Series 1', it seems most appropriate they continue this trend with every 13 episodes. But that's just my take on the whole matter.

It's a good thing in my book... The 13 episode run was too much and lost too many viewers along the way. This new schedule will keep viewers wanting more and craving more is what good TV is all about...

I'm not really bothered what they call it 'series wise' ... they can call it 'series little brown duck' for me

Why not call this year's "Series 2010", and next year's "Series 2011a and 2011b"? Surely that's a much easier approach?

You have a Patrick Troughton / Daleks story? A full one? Please return it to the BBC archives post-haste so they can get it out on DVD and we can all get a chance to have a peek!

It's the way a lot of stuff is made these days. Look at some of the crime dramas, which get good viewing figures but are generally only broadcast in blocks of three at a time.

In a way there has already been a Doctor Who/Top Gear crossover

Typical BBC to muck around. To split one series into two and then try and sell it as two seperate series is shocking. Shows what they think of the fans.
