I've just purchased a Foxsat HDR box to replace my GUFSAT01HD, which was a pain because it was very temperature sensitive, even with an external fan. I have connected the two downleads to the inputs and the LNB out to the Sky digibox. However, I find it annoying that, if I activate the Foxsat HDR while watching something on the digibox, the digibox comes up with 'No satellite signal received' until the Foxsat HDR is fully booted (about 1 minute).
Is this inevitable or is there a solution?

Connected in this way both boxes think they control LNB1. It would be much better to run another cable (changing the LNB if need be).

It's inevitable because the lnb out will only output the same channels in the same band and polarity as tuner 1 is using while on. Until tuner 1 starts working you won't get anything. Presumably you have a quad lnb so just give the sky box it's own cable

You can't daisy chain Sat boxes like that without having these type of issues. Basic rule is one LNB connection to one tuner. Fit a Quad LNB to your dish if you don't have one already and run an additional down lead.

Yes I agree with the rest, don't do it - use a separate feed, the LNB output on the back isn't intended to be used in that way.

That's the way the User Guide tells you to do it but I see the point. Unfortunately, I only have a twin LNB so will have to upgrade.
Thanks to all for the advice.

That user guide section describes the connections for a single LNB installation - LNB 1 out is there to enable the use of the second tuner when connected to LNB2 in.

As REPASSAC has pointed out, the user guide doesn't tell you to do it that way, it's something completely different.

Your best option for now is probably to use one feed for the Sky box, and the other to the Freesat box, looping out of the Freesat box and back in (as the guide does show). The small number of channels on Freesat mean that's it's still possible to record two channels at once with many combinations of channels.

Unfortunately, I only have a twin LNB so will have to upgrade.
It's rare to only have a twin LNB, they were hardly ever fitted - quads are FAR more common.

Page 11 of the user guide states

LNB1 OUT - Connects another digital satellite receiver

So it does! - On my version of the manual (the latest I think) on page GB16 the drawing shows you should point your dish at Astra 1 19.2E.

It's still a crap idea though . (apart from using the loop capability that is), especially with a recorder that can turn on any time.

You are right. I had evidently skipped through the installation too quickly.

I fitted the twin LNB when I purchased the GUFSAT01HD a couple of years ago, never expecting to need more. Unfortunately, our local sat shop has now closed so I shall have to resort to online purchasing.
