Adverts on VOD
I am considering leaving BT BB when my contract expires, I do however use their Vision Service from time to time and find it OK, in fact I think I would miss it, and it could play some part in BT retaining my custom.
However two or three months ago it was suggested that adverts would be coming to VOD, and as the lack of advertising is, for me, one of the advantages of Vision this could be the right time to leave. Has any further work been done on this suggestion? Whoops, I have a feeling that I may have posted in the wrong Forum, still I am sure someone will put me right. |

Hi,
Your on the right forum, but WATCH OUT! There be predators about! The answer to your question is No. That is, not yet. BUT, it is something they are still thinking about. But at the moment, the Vision subscriber numbers are so small they cannot make it commercially viable. So we're safe for now. |

No further news on this but it seems that they are looking at 2011 to start ads in the on demand stuff. See here.

Nothing against adverting, it have to be done, but what worries me is Quote:
Watson said BT could also introduce behavioural targeting, saying “What broadband enables us to do is know our customers very well. We know their likes and dislikes and what they want to watch. This is subject to privacy laws, but there are commercial opportunities there.”
Google style ads, which is why I will not touch Canvas or what ever they will call it when it comes out.

I wouldn't mind some adverts if it meant lower prices and not excessive amounts of it

In the USA there is a lot of On Demand content on cable that has "pre" show adverts.
The lack of adverts has so far been a bonus. When I subscribed to Sky Player - their catch up service was riddled with adverts. Honestly - I was shocked that with all the adverts they had a cheek to charge for the service. Suppose that's Sky for you.... |
