I don't know whether to brush this off as the usual crap the press churns out, but since it's on the STV website I think that makes it a lot more reliable than the usual sources for news.

for god sake if simon wants us x factor to be huge then having an unknown singer from england is hardly gonna make people tune in. and tbh cheryl is stupid because her music won't be taken seriously over there because she will be known as the girl off x factor not the girl who is an established successful artist turned judge. no matter how much they will ram down the american audience's throats that she was in the successful group girls aloud and that her debut album reached no.1 in the uk too them that means nothing, she's not a star there yet.

she's ruining her chances of being taken as a serious musician over there but she may not want to be a singer there? idk

Her music isn't that unpopular over there though. When I was in America FFtL and Parachute were played on the radio a few times and the songs weren't even released over there

It might seem like a stupid idea on paper. But Simon is not a stupid person, he is very successful and obviously knows what he is doing.

Risky move for her,as there is no guarantee the American viewers or TV critics will like her.I wonder if she would be able to handle a ton of negative criticism.

I take it that is a tongue in cheek comment

He went bankrupt once........so he doesn't always get it spot on. You can hear the cries of "Cheryl who?" across the good old US of A.
The biggest problem is that no one will understand her geordie twang........they'll need subtitles.

They also won't buy into the "most beautiful woman in the world" nonsense you see in UK magazine polls. There are a million Cheryl Coles on US TV.

Perhaps you can tell me what credentials Cheryl has for being viewed as a serious musician. She's vocally weak, relying on lypsynching or auto-tune. She contributes litlle to the writing process & doesn't play an instrument.

No its not, ITV don't have the channel 3 space in Scotland, STV is a seperate company that buy some programs from ITV Plc and show them in Scotland. It is in no way the same company as ITV.

Weak, limp, lifeless.

X Factor is going to bomb in the US. The American Idol juggernaut is much much bigger than Simon Cowell. The tone of show on ITV is hideous and there's no way they can sell those wolf tickets on American prime time.

I'll still never get why people don't like Cheryl on this forum anyway im happy for her shes a judge in the U.K and has won twice and shes experienced Reality T.V herself (Popstars: The Rivals) so hopefully she'll do good over there.

Just like he did when head of BMG records when he turned down the chance of signing the Spice Girls; passed up the option of signing Robbie Williams as a solo artists after he left BMG act Take That; and dropping Kylie Minogue from the BMG dance offshoot DeConstruction record label saying she was too old and should return to acting before she signed to EMI in 2000 and making a magnificent comeback in her thirties......

The obvious thing would be to load the panel with names which makes sense - . But then, is Simon Cowell of all people going to take that argument seriously? Seeing as he was a complete nonentity when he did American Idol. Then it all happened again with Piers Morgan.

I'm now thinking a panel along the lines of:

Simon Cowell
Cheryl Cole
Katy Perry or Nicole Scherzinger
Larry Jackson or Scott Braun

Katy seems to be saying all the right things and there was a rumour of an 8 figure deal. Whether or not she could fit it in with her career, I'm not so sure. Nicole is probably more likely just now.

Larry Jackson is the 29 year old President of A&R at Arista Records and Executive Vice President of A&R for RCA Music Group. He has been mentored by Clive Davis and worked with artists including Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson and X Factor's own Leona Lewis.

Scott "Scooter" Braun is the 28 year old manager of Justin Bieber and Asher Roth.

I think having a younger male executive on the other end of the panel would be something new for one of these shows. Also, Idol has an ageing audience and that's the kind of audience that Cowell will bring to XF - he is now 50+ himself. So it would be a shrewd move to have some younger people on the panel.

not Nicole she could be a judge on the british version but definetely not the American one

I just cannot see this happening at all.

Cheryl Cole does not have the credibility in the USA to be a judge on the show.

Cowell was never Head of BMG. He said earlier this year that he offered The Spice Girls a record deal but they missed out. Victoria Beckham had been saying he passed on them hence the clarification.

The big one you missed wasn't that he passed on Robbie as a solo act - that wasn't his call to make - but that he turned down Take That in the first place because Gary Barlow was too fat at the time! Of course they were signed by Nick Raymonde who was also at BMG - and is now an A&R for Syco.
