I heard that Stephen Moffatt may not allow the eleventh dr to regenerate and he just exists , hm hope not , this feature has been a fail safe of this programme for almost 47 years though we didnt see Paul Mcgann change into Chris Eccleston!

Tennant to Matt Smith. Loved the whole staggering up to the Tardis then taking it out above the Earth.

Eccleston to Tennant

Of the others nothing really stands out script wise other than the thrill at the time, oh saying that the forced regen on Troughton was well done.

Hartnell to Troughton. Simple, enigmatic, effective.

He said on Twitter that he would 'regenerate as often as I damn well please' or words to that effect.

You have such good taste, that's mine as well as it's the first I ever watched!!!!

I like them all really, but that one stands out. Ecclestone to Tennant was good because it was just tagge don the end of the story and I loved the Tennant/Smith one because of Vale Decem, a cracking bit of music. Was a shame we never saw the change between Troughton and Pertwee and l;iewise McGann and Ecclestone though.

Well if it did that, it means the music done it's job. All Doctors leaving are sad. I think the Pertwee/Baker one used very little music but the effect was just as sad, it still had impact.

I mean if you like that dr and hate how he dies(sort of) but he has friends with him or someone we like
thats easy , its only five years ago that the music has got better on dr who(in my view)in the past the music wasnt as special I thought though the theme tune is ace

1963-1966-didnt see it really-he was on his own from the clip I saw on the proms-didnt like hartnell's era really from the clips online-Hartnell-didnt see it really to remember any

1966-1969 I didnt see that either only from clips shown on the proms-I liked what little I saw-he again was sort of alone as the timelords had made him regenerate-Troughton-what music?

1970-1973(?) Pertwee's regration was sweet and he said a ace goodbye to Sarah Jane(only to meet up with her in 1983)-he was a ace dr-horrid spiders made him regenrate-Pertwee-did it have music???

1973-1981 T Baker's were my fave-T Baker-he died casue of the master but wasnt alone-ace dr again-okish keyboard music

1981-1984-P davison's one was awful-P Davison-great dr but wasnt as showbiz as T Baker but he had a good innings-he was with whiny Peri and he died casue of her getting poisoned !-silly keyboard music

1984-1987-C Baker's one wasnt with him -C Baker- was a okish dr later on but his dress sense and arrgoance and violent tendecies towards peri(initially)was a turn off(for me)-he died with the rani staring at him-he died casue of the rani(well went)-silly keyboard music

1987-1996-S Mcoy-Mcoys'regeration was bonkers, he died from being shot-then he regenrated in a morgue(dont ask)-he was alone but Grace his first sort of assistant saved his life-Mcoy was a bonker's dr !-cant remember music

1996-2005 C Eccleston's regeration was needed and was like he found love with Rose -he died from swallowing way too much of the timey wimey thing from rose's gob-he died with rose watching in horror-C eccleston was a dam moody dr but had sparks of humour at times-cant remember music

2005-2010-boo hoo DT was heartbreaking-dt a ace dr-he was alone sadly-that blooming wilf I blame-sad sad music axeven now makes me sadax

Jon to Tom.

It actually looked like a death. The way the radiation was destroying him from within, the toppling to the floor when leaving the TARDIS and he looked an old man nearing death on the lab floor.

Very very moving.

Eccleston to Tennant is my favourite. I did a search to refresh my memory and came across this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aivYb_0npqw
It's quite well put together and shows companion reactions to the regenerations.

At the proms , when dt went, a lady was crying in the stalls(or balcony)about dt regenerating, Jon to Tom got the biggest cheer and Jon did when he changed from Pat troughton, also when P davison emerged ,the ladies or mums cheered(I didnt think he was that hot)Will hartnell got a cheer and P troughton and T Baker and C Eccleston and DT got the loudest oh and Matt too getting a big cheer(from the kids) got to say "DW" has been with generations for 47 years (I have done my maths)but it aint as old as corrie! ax

Mine is Jon Pertwee's he had been the Doc since I'd started watching TV and it's one of those odd childhood emotions to feel the loss of a tv character or personality.

The other thing is I don't think it was TB on the floor after 'it' had happened in the final scene. Maybe it's my memory, I've never gone back to check it.

The 1st Doctor was with Polly & Ben when he regenerated. His body wore out.

The Troughton regeneration is particularly sad, because the Doctor is forced to say goodbye to Jamie & Zoe, who are returned to their own times with their memories almost completely wiped. The the Doctor is exiled to Earth, and forced to regenerate. So sad, especially when the Doctor explains to Jamie that, this time, they won't be able to run away

And no, Pertwee lasted from 1970 - 1974. 2nd Longest dr around

That's an added bonus when you regenerate from old age.

Ben Jackson and Polly (possibly Wright) were the latest companions of the First Doctor. Here's a shot of the two of them. (I haven't seen the 'slash' video referenced though.) His granddaughter Susan
Spoiler
left in the second Dalek story to stay with a man she met on Earth in the future,
and Ian and Barbara
Spoiler
made it back to Sixties Earth at the end of that season.

Is he?

McCoy lasted from 1987 - 1996.

McGann (in theory) lasted from 1996 - 2005.

It's all a bit fuzzy when you're talking about how long a Dr lasted, and I don't really want to derail the thread going there, but Pertwee appeared more often across his tenure than McCoy did (not that that was Sylvester's fault )

I actually really liked the McCoy to McGann regeneration, up to then, the Regenerations were all screen effects and didn't seem like the body was actually changing, just more fading in and out. But with that one, seeing all the excess energy spark around and the bones cracking and face morphing and the body changes itself was pretty gruesome but very well done at the same time. As for second, would be the new series ones, keeping with the above explanation, when they can't do something like that, having the body simply explode out pure energy whilst morphing the body is also a cool way to have it done.

Without a doubt, Davison to Colin Baker was the best. We actually saw 5 go through the process of dying, not just conveniently falling off a gantry or absorbing theTime Vortex by kissing his companion or spending half an hour looking up his old mates, and 6's first words really added to the occassion (shame the following story was such a letdown!). I did like The Watcher though.

That was spoilt for me by (a) the fact that he was shot by a street gang, very un Doctor Who (b) it was in such a crap story.
