Thanks Stargirl and myoldmate And thanks for the welcome boxfresh
You're welcome.

I don't get when people say Alex's not pretty enough. I think she's beautiful! I generally don't find black people attractive (not in a racist way, just taste wise) but I still think she's really pretty. Definitely agree she looks better with a natural look. (The Wonderland shoot was a mistake in my opinion, for example. Another really obvious one to me would be her Sure ad - to me she looks 1000x better before they do her up! I digress...)
Alex doesn't have the figure of a model as we perceive them to be be but looks wise I disagree. Fashion isn't about being attractive in the conventional sense but more about being distinctive ( Grace Jones! ) and Alex is all of that imo. Her mouth for instance is her outstanding feature and also she has a light in her eyes that is to die for. Any photographer worth his salt could easily capture the essence of those and produce quality images.

Couldn't agree more. The top models in the UK just now include Lily Cole, Agyness Deyn, Erin O'Connor and
Karen Elson. None of these girls are conventionally beautiful like Beyonce or Cheryl Cole, but they all have a distinctive look. I would say that Alex is prettier than all of them in a conventional sense. And if she wasn't model material then quite simply one of the biggest model agencies in the world wouldn't have signed her up.

I do think she is a bit on the short side for the catwalk though.

Pardon me for going off topic but what are your opinions of Rebecca Fergusons audition on the X Factor yesterday?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJK0fnla49A

Personally I love this girl, my fave audition since Alex. Such great tone, interpretation and a sort of jazz/blues vibe and she sounds really authentic. Like this girl a lot. Want her to win.

True, the only thing you could say Alex wasn't good enough to be a model, is catwalk stuff. She hasn't got the height nor coathanger frame expected of runway models.

Facially, she's better looking than a lot of models And her body is in good shape.. So as far as magazine spreads/ad campaigns and such where height and frame is less of an issue, she's model material.

As an aside, I wonder if the success of the Sure ad campaign convinced them Alex was a good model/picthwoman. I've seen some posters of Alex with the Sure ads on tube stations, and if I had no idea who she was, I'd just assume she was an attractive model. Which is the point, I guess.

Yeah exactly I think she has a lovely face and a great body! Even if it's not typical in the model world, I think she's fab.

Myoldmate, I definitely get what you mean, I definitely prefer her to most models though, guess that's just me!

Edit / off topic: Oh yeah, definitely love Rebecca, such a warm, natural tone. She's so professional sounding, it sounds like there's so much real experience in her voice, but she's only 23! One to watch. My brother walked in whilst she was on, and he's not into music/ X Factor, and said, "Oh, who's she? She's very good, she could be the next Leona Lewis!"...not that they sound alike, but she's very good indeed

Rebecca is fantastic. She has a lovely tone and definitely not what I was expecting at all. A raw talent. She has a lovely personality as well, just wish she would have more confidence in herself. I also want her to win, she really deserves a break.

I didn't really get the hype about Cher. She can sing but all the posturing she was doing looked so awkward to me and a bit put on. I think she can sing to some extent but I don't get her.

Shades of 2008 for me.

Anyway what a great week for Alex.

SWY #1 for two weeks. 3rd time only this year.

Charlotte Church stating that Alex is one of the best female vocalists she's ever heard and today the news that Alex has signed a lucrative modelling deal with IMG.

Life is good!

Great news. Alex may not have the height for catwalk modelling or boyish/emanciated figure that models have but she is a natural beauty and is very photogenic.

She managed to be "current". It was more her choice of song that made her stand out than anything, though she has a good voice. Singing a Soulja Boy/Keri Hilson tune with a hip-hop vibe, and doing a credible job of it, just made her seem fresher, edgier and more relavant than most of the people who audition. That's what got people excited.

A very nice twitter exchange between Marvin from JLS and Alex regarding her 2nd week at #1. Pours cold water on those theories that they had fallen out because Alex had become too big for her boots.

I don't particularly rate JLS, but you have to say, the success of the class of '08 X-Factor is remarkable, and you have to wonder if that season will ever be bettered. Even though Diana Vickers flopped pretty horribly with her second single, her record label are still keeping faith with her and the media treats her like a proper star, so if she gets the hoped for X-Factor performance, there's every chance of her turning things around.

Shame about Ruth Lorenzo and her record label woes. Thought she stood a decent chance of adding to the the success of Season 5, but I think that ship has sailed.

Woo, so glad about the second week I think Cher is quite good actually, a lot of character to her voice. Want to see her in bootcamp first though to be totally convinced, see if her voice lends well enough to different styles. The performance was a bit awkward, sure, but I think the whole point was for it to be put on anyway? Like an act. It's probably better that she did get into it though since she was really nervous before.

Theories of people falling out are always mostly nonsense to me. Why read into things so much? If nothing's actually happened in reality then it's probably best not to assume. Still, glad those have been quashed Nice of him.

SWY #3 on itunes. Katy #1, Bruno #2.

I want Bruno Mars to be #1 now!

Great news SWY #1 again! I'll be interested in the sales, I'm expecting 10,000 +.

Regarding Rebecca I really liked her and Nicole gave her some sound advice. She'd be in Cheryl's category and I don't want Cheryl to win again.

Regarding Cher she'd also be in Cheryl's category if she makes the live shows. Is it me or do they give Cheryl the strongest category every year!?

Yes I'm still bitter FFTL knocked BB of of #1.

SWY obviously helping Overcome.

The Saturdays Missing You at #24 sold 11,284, so I thik it's safe to say she's sold slightly more than 10K.

I love SWY but I never thought it would do this well - glad to be proven wrong and that it's kept the #1 spot for two weeks!

Oops I meant 50,000+.

Anyway after she was announced as #1 again this week before they played SWY they played Hallelujah, Bad Boys, Broken Heels. They didn't play a snippet of All Night Long.

SWY #3 on iTunes.

Why doesn't R1 just do a collective tweet about how much they hate Alex to save us all the bother

So glad Alex is 2 weeks at #1, not sure about her holding it this week though, Katy seems to be holding steady and Taio has climbed since last week, not to mention new releases this week. Can't wait for the re-release and another XF performance though...
