Oh, I figured Alex would probably get a US X-Factor slot, even while Cheryl was still judging. For Simon, that's the bare minumum he would do for Alex. I expect JLS and Cher Lloyd to get performing slots as well. And probably other Syco acts like One Direction and Matt Cardle. I'm not sure slots will be difficult to come by for many UK X-Factor related acts.
I just don't think that's enough. So maybe in Simon's mind it is. In America, you need to put the work in. Dozens of shows, radio appearences, getting played on radio, live appearences etc. Will Young had the exit song for an entire season of American idol last year, and also performed on the show, but it did not make him a "name" in America.
If Simon feels he's fufilling his duties to Alex by giving her a US X-Factor slot and just leaving it at that, then he's selling her short.
I think she's easily his best hope for proper US stardom of his current crop, but he seemed more convinced of Cheryl's impending US superstardom because of how easily she gets by on her looks in the UK, despite not being the most talented of acts.
As she did in the UK, Alex will have to put in most of the legwork herself, because Simon won't break his back for her. Her promotion in Europe was weak, and that was down to Syco. Of course, if Alex does crack America, chances are Simon will start talking about her all the time. But I feel he'll give her the bare minumum, which is a US X-Factor slot.
It'll really be down to how well Epic US promote her. If they start cutting corners and getting cheap like Syco did, halfway into the Overcome era, then she's in trouble. Syco want international superstars, but they don't want to spend the type of money needed to invest in one.
