<Nostalgic sigh> I can remember when BBC1 used to fill the first week of September with wall-to-wall new series. Although that was to compensate for filling the previous three months with wall-to-wall repeats, which they don't do now.

Lost Land Of The Titles got a plug on the BBC Ten O'Clock News last night. They were reporting on how the programme has found evidence of tigers living at a much higher altitude than previously thought.

Christine Bleakley's slightly scary face looms out at us at the start of the trailer for this Saturday's Simply Red: For The Last Time. "Join me...." she says. ITV1 still under the delusion that she's some great ratings winner.

And tone down the orange, Christine. It's not a good look if you're sharing a screen with Mick Hucknall and he's the looker.

OK for Four Weddings but terrible for Derren Brown. Looks even worse when the 2 programmes before were repeats with more than twice the audience. Parenthood looks like it's not holding as much of its lead-in as it should.

Fortunately for Nine it seems that was the last of the events "How To Take Down a Casino." They must have already shown the others a while back. Next week in that slot will be the season premiere of Survivor which normally rates well in Australia.

Parenthood did OK but I'm always reminded of All Saints which used to pull in 1.2-1.3m in that slot on Tuesdays and somehow got cancelled.

Is Derren even that well known in Australia? I reckon if he did a tour and had more TV appearances, it would have done better.

Hawaii Five-0, The Event and M&M premiered well and DWTS is as popular as ever. The reviews for 5-0 were very good and it did build from M&M so I reckon it remain a solid performer and get a full season. Given CBS' love for Alex O'Loughlin, it wouldn't surprise me.

Will be interesting how DCI Banks fares on Monday, it looks good and is more appealing than Bouquet of Barbed Wire. They dropped the Aftermath subtitle which makes me think a recommision is in the pipeline.

Final US ratings are now in, with cable ratings now released as well.

ESPN's Monday Night Football (New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers) beat all the broadcast competition with a 6.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 15.12m total viewers.

The game was shown on local NBC affiliates in New Orleans which is one reason why The Event lost a tenth in final ratings (now a 3.6), Chase was down to a 2.3 from a 2.5 while Chuck also dipped a tenth to a 2.0. That takes Chase from "mediocre" to bad. It's the same as Mercy last season.

Two and A Half Men gained some more to a 4.9 rating while Hawaii Five-O was also up to a 3.9 which ties Mike & Molly for #1 series premiere. House also ticked up to a 4.2 but it's still way off last season.

WWE Raw topped Lonestar at 9pm with a 1.4 rating. At 10pm, 2 episodes of Pawn Stars had 4.28m (1.7) and 4.67m (1.9).

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The headline from "premiere Monday" is a bad one - only Lonestars ratings really stand out and for all the wrong reasons. It's probably the worst ever rating for a premiere week show (at least from Sunday-Thursday). It was always a tough sell, many felt it would have worked better on cable. But I didn't see any kind of prediction close to where it came out in the end. With House down heavily, it was a rough night for FOX - though arguably their biggest event of premiere week occurs tomorrow afternoon - the announcement of the new American Idol panel.

I've watched The Event, it was losing me at one point but overall it was decent. Not sure if it'll be enough to hold an audience and at 3.6, it's not a rating to get excited about. With Chuck low and Chase stumbling out the gates, I think NBC will be disappointed with last night. They need something good from Undercovers on Wednesday, IMO.

A similar story for Hawaii Five-O, with ratings that are good but not anything special. Though I'd be more confident in it holding the audience due to the nature of the show.

ABC on the other hand will be thrilled. With little expectation of their new shows, behind the scenes changes and likely declines for Grey's Anatomy & Desperate Housewives, having an entire night up 20% is a much needed boost. By the end of the week, they might be a bit more subdued in their press releases!

CBS seem to have found their "Simon Cowell" in Chuck Lorre. With all eyes on H50 & The Event, Mike & Molly put in solid ratings. I felt like it could have been a repeat of an early 90's sitcom but I don't think that will actually work against it. It was endearing and funny. There's more chance of Lonestar getting a 22 episode order than there is of M&M winning any awards and the plot was entirely predictable. But since when did people watch what the awards panels told them to? I guess the question is "how many fat jokes are there" but Lorre has managed to take Two and a Half Men into its 8th season and add viewers which is an impressive achievement. Comedy Central have the UK rights and start on October 4th as part of a 9pm comedy block with Two and a Half Men.

I reckon Hawaii Five-0 would have done better had it been scheduled after NCIS or the Thursday comedies but it's still good and I reckon it will be a solid player throughout the season.

Will be interesting how CSI:Miami and NY do in their new timeslots, Miami will improve Sundays especially with Undercover Boss as a lead in but it will suffer from overruns pushing it back later and later.

FOX will have to choose which shows to cancel or shorten as they have X Factor, Terra Nova in 2011 plus Glee's already renewed. I reckon either Locke and Key or Alcatraz will be picked up. Fringe and Lie to Me look uncertain as both have so-so ratings while Bones is still doing well so I reckon it will be on next season.

Isn't Aftermath the book that it's based on?* Maybe they've dropped that as it said in the new Radio Times that it's the 12th book in the series.

Spooks did quite well - a bit down on last year but a decent turnout nonetheless. I still enjoy watching the show so I hope it stays in the mid 5million range and gets a re-commission. It would be a shame if the rumours of savings cuts via drama axing prove true though.

Eastenders seems to be getting into its Autumn stride now with the last 3 Mondays all above 9m. Same goes for Emmerdale with the 7m marker. Coronation Street lagging behind a bit this week though.

I wonder whether the predicted sunshine and 25 degree temperatures for today (Wednesday) will send Hollyoaks and Neighbours sub 1 million again one last time for 2010.

It is but I believe because it's the most intense story and it introduces DI Annie Cabbot. It's not unusual, I believe Inspector Morse used the fifth book The Dead of Jericho for the pilot, the first book was adapted for the second series.

WWE Raw actually had its lowest viewership in over 2 years on Monday night. 3.91m viewers at 9pm and 3.95m viewers at 10pm means its the lowest viewership since New Year's Eve 2007.

Wouldnt that have been expected when the main channels have their premieres at the start of the season? Hasnt WWE Raw been getting its best ratings in years over the summer too?

Fantastic figure for Lost Land of the Tiger. Looks like iaindb was right, in that the BBC News plug seems to have boosted its rating, although I think it would've rated well anyway. BBC1 had a good night overall with EastEnders getting 42% which is the highest I can remember for it since Spring.

Solid for the Great British Bake Off - the same as the series average, but at 9pm Excluded rated very poorly. ITV1 was up a little compared to last week, with 71 Degrees North doing pretty well for FlopZone standards but it could do with growing towards the 4m mark IMO. Channel 4 was also up week-on-week between 8-11pm, must be a relief for them that after the relatively big drop for episode 2, This is England gained 0.3m viewers from last week. Should be good enough for a recommission if there's scope to do another series. Solid ratings for FIVE once again for a Tuesday.

I expected it to be doing around 5m. Lost Land of the Jaguar averaged 4.5m, 4.8m and 5.6m in the summer of 2008 over three consecutive Wednesdays. (all overnights)

The Ten Alps production drew an audience of 49,900 (0.2%) to Sky1 at 8.30pm, which could only provide a lowly Performance Index figure of 27.1.
