Can I do the Casualty on life support gag now?
![]() Casualty: 3.77m (15.1%) The X Factor: 11.36m (47.2%) With: Paradox: 3.11m (13.6%) The Bill: 2.99m (13.1%) Don't compare Casualty's fall with The Bill's fall. Casualty actually performs respectfully to be fair against X Factor, The Bill couldn't even get 4m against mediocre opposition. |

I have no idea where the XF average stands in relation to last year but somehow 11.36 million, amazing as it is , doesnt seem as mindblowing as we have come to expect-maybe its because that second judges housing thing scored so highly.
Casualty is being battered and fried at the moment-its lost 3 or 4 million in overnights from 4 years ago. I am a fan of the show and maybe its acceptable during the X Factor period, but I do wonder how low its got to go before questions are asked. Elsewhere Burp is ok but the new revitalised SCD is keeping it in check somewhat as it is regarding YBF and the anaemic looking Family Fortunes. |

Very poor for casualty, on a par with what the Bill was getting on a Thursday. It really needs to be shortened to 40 episodes maximum a year (though 26 epsiodes January to June is probably more appropriate) and taken off air when X Factor is on. A 2 week break in early September is not long enough for a series to end and then re-begin.

Am I not exactly clued up on what ratings mean etc. but does anyone else think that relatively speaking SCD is doing a lot better than TXF? Of course TXF is getting bigger ratings but I would expect it to- it's been on the front pages of the tabloids for most of the week.
Both are up on last year, which is good, but I don't think either is winning as such. X Factor's reaching maximum potential, and so is Strictly, so both are doing really well. |

Well yeah, Strictly's doing a lot better than last year, but that's because its on in a better slot and no longer clashing with The X Factor which dented both quite a bit.

Strictly beats X Factor sensation!!!! Brucie and Robbie Sykes will be demanding that BBC1 move Strictly to 7.45 next Saturday.
![]() Poor for Casualty. I was thinking last week (don't know if I mentioned it in any of my posts) that BBC1 had dropped the wrong programme from their overcrowded Saturday night and maybe In It To Win It would have stayed above 4m. at McIntyre beating Morgan. But next week - Piers and Cheryl. Isn't that a waste in a 10pm slot? Or could it be ITV1's post 10pm ratings equivalent of Nick Griffin on Question Time? The HD figure for TXF is bizarre. Only 0.3m even though it had 0.77m last week? Considering the SD rating was down 6% week-on-week, you'd expect something similar with HD so it should've got 0.6m/0.7m-ish.

I think ITV missed a trick in not having Piers and Cheryl on XF finale night.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...s-murdoch-bill Surely the production company is paid to make a show, which they did and its the broadcasters responsibility to advertise it, schedule it and bring and audience to it? I remember the head of The CW saying to the Veronica Mars producers when the show got low ratings that it wasn't their fault, it was the network's responsibility to bring the audience to the show. |

Pillars of the Earths did very well for Channel 4, in a less competitive slot, it would done 2.5-3m, will be interesting how it fares over the next six weeks. Five was hit badly but it doesn't help when the whole lineup was repeats. Quote:
I don't really get that.

That way the rest of the evening gets a consistent start time. I'd remove Comedy Roadshow though and have a 30min news at 21:00 followed by Casualty at 21:30. Comedy Roadshow can be aired during the non Match Of The Day season after Casualty. |

Also SCD and Merlin's full slot figures were slightly different: 9.1m (40.8%) for SCD and 5.5m (21.7%) for Merlin, so even better than initially thought for the family drama.

Firstly, very disappointing for the return of The Mentalist on five. I know the last series aired on Friday's too but personally I'd move it back to Thursday where the first series aired. It deserved much more and I was expecting a figure of 2m+.
Good for Corrie on Friday night. 8.7m is a very good figure for the second episode and I assume that's the slot average and not tape-checked. Could be pushing close to 10m in the officials. Does that include HD? --------------------------------- As for last night that is a terrible rating for Casualty. But there's not much the BBC can do with TXF taking up the whole night on ITV1. Solid enough for TXF. I do feel that the show length is too long to expect a 12-13m average. Maybe when there's less contestants and the show gets shorter we'll see some more healthy averages, but 11.5m is still an incredible rating considering the 2 and a half hours it's on for. SCD is performing very well this series. As for the HD figures 0.3m does seem very low for TXF. Officially they are around 0.7-0.8m. |

I know the XF rating is still briliant in its own right but think about that it lost like 2.5m from 2 weeks ago at Judges Houses, when normally the Live Shows are much higher.
And yes I know that SCD and XF clashed, BUT looking at the breakdown, even after SCD finished, the ratings were only over 12m for 30 mins or so... and the ratings went lower from 12.1m to 11.3m after 9pm. So i think that something has gone iffy, as good a sthe ratings are, you don't just lose 2.5m in 2 weeks from Judges Houses to Live Shows just like that. Brilliant for Strictly again. Beating XF in the mild clash. Low for Casualty. |

Excellent ratings last night for Strictly, The X Factor and Merlin. Strictly has significantly improved this year and I imagine as the series goes on, the figures could grow and reach up to 11m viewers.
The X Factor is doing as well as expected and Merlin is keeping consistent. I do think Casualty has gone downhill in quality, but it's clear the poor figure is due to the X Factor. It will be interesting to see what the official figure is like. It should reach 5m-5.5m for its official figures or it's a cause for concern because when X Factor finishes, will viewers bother to flock back to Casualty when it's halfway through its run? Nice to see Michael McIntyre above 4m.
