True enough, but it doesn't negate the point. That was just a coincidence...

Well deserved too, I thought it was brilliant. Stupid time slot though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a repeat showing over Christmas in a weekday teatime slot on BBC1, 6.30pm-ish.

Well it's had a format change, and has gone live (apparently at the behest of Claudia). I guess they were hoping to appeal to a wider audience and it's worked to an extent, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it drifting later and later over time.

Possibly so but no sign of that yet. The rating for week 1 (1.1m) was passable when you look at how Film 2010 was performing in the later slot but it was the first show back and I could see it slipping below 1m soon if it stays in that slot. And as we've seen a lot recently, BBC One is capable of so much more in the post-news slot. Three times as much even. (To name three recent examples: Madness in the Fast Lane, Question Time, Traffic Cops)

Embarrassing that even a repeat of Raising Hope beforehand managed to beat it by over 1 million viewers and 0.5 demo points.

Well, it took a season and a bit, but it happened!

Quote:
“With Fox's Glee topping the rating and music charts, CW has teamed with Bandslam writer-director Todd Graff and the film's producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas to develop its own musical and dancing dramedy. Titled Acting Out, the project is described as Glee meets Bad Santa and explores relationships of counselors and staff of a down-on-its-luck summer camp whose new owner is a young curmudgeon in the vein of Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa. In addition to writing, Graff is executive producing with Goldsmith-Thomas and may direct. This is a familiar setting for Graff, who also wrote and directed the 2003 film Camp, about a burnt-out Broadway songwriter who goes to work at a musical camp for young performers. It's been a busy selling season for Goldsmith Thomas who has 5 projects set up at various networks, including a drama at Fox with writer Jason Smilovic.”

I think it has lasted because FOX don't have anything to put there. But it's now at the stage where repeats of Raising Hope would do better at 9.30pm. I wouldn't be surprised if they try that for sweeps.

Running Wilde has always seemed the least likely of the FOX comedies to do well. Raising Hope will be tested in 2011 when it moves to 8pm on Wednesdays and Mixed Signals (which looked the best of the 3) airs after American Idol on Tuesdays (9.30pm).

If FOX have one decent hit out of the 3 sitcoms, they'll be pleased. It has been a difficult genre for them in recent years. Although their studio produces How I Met Your Mother for CBS and Modern Family for ABC.

Late as ever but...ITV held up ok last night. They'll be pleased 71 Degrees North didn't lose out after a week's break. BBC1 did well as ever. Channel 4 are having a poor time of it, they seem to be struggling to get a good run going night after night which is a slight concern now we're getting into the autumn programme.

^ The headline writers could potentially have a field day with Mixed Signals!

They've put a lot of faith in it giving it the post-Idol slot. But it would have to be pretty rubbish not to do well there, right?

Certainly for the first episode it should do well regardless of how good it is - it's a very simple premise which should be open to most viewers. Idol viewers are unlikely to start watching anything else at 9.30pm and the earlier episodes of Idol are its highest rated. Of course, because Idol falls (sometimes quite significantly) over its run so will Mixed Signals.

But it should easily be above 3.0 for the whole run and there's no chance of it doing as badly as Running Wilde!

If BBC1 don't have enough money to run original content at 10.40pm, whats the point in leaving a live show until past 11pm?

In fact, some might argue that until BBC1 can afford to run the 9pm slot repeat free all year they shouldn't be investing in late night TV.

I don't see what possible benefit there is in doing this programme live. Bitheway it gets a later slot in some of the national regions where (presumably) it is not live.

Good news. It didn't seem to get the best reviews, but it performed very well, especially considering it was up against Spooks. Also good to see ITV investing in another longer drama series of 6 episodes, because they need a few more. Pretty quick recomissions for both Downton & now DCI:Banks. Let's see if Whitechapel is next.

I also think ITV are planning to axe Wild At Heart after the next series. ITV have got rid of every other pre watershed drama (bar Primeval) and WAH costs a lot to make. Giving Stephen Tomkinson a new 6 part series makes me think this even more.

Oh great for Neighbours, that's the highest for a while i think, higher that the 6000th ep last week. Cowboy Builders doing well. Is it just me but has Grand Designs gone up?
ZoeMcCallister

Thanks rzt-interesting night. Everything on BBC1 boosted, apart from The Apprentice. It's clear Bang Goes The Theory doesn't make the most of the audience that's available at 7.30pm and other factual shows perform much better. Waterloo boosted by poor football competition, but slightly surprising TA didn't go past 7m considering the opposition. It might struggle slightly when there's bigger football matches, but should post a strong audience next week because I can't see Poirot doing too well-it struggles to make 5m on a Sunday, so will probably be nearer 4m next week.

CH4 will be pleased by their primetime boost, with no drama competition on ITV1. Food is actually performing OK now and Grand Designs is back up to 'good' levels. Rude Tube is always a solid performer aswell. Really alarming for Hollyoaks though with a share below 5% midweek, especially considering their big stunt is coming up in a couple of weeks and if things don't improve after that then there's not much more CH4 can try really.

1.5m for Neighbours must be one of the highest in months! Was it a big episode? Cowboy Builders continues to do very well too.

No surprise it got an extended recommission because the first two-parter had a consolidated average of just under 6.8m, which is excellent, and that was against Spooks too.

The article says it's coming back in Spring but I think that's when the production is starting, so it might still be in Autumn next year.

I'm also a bit surprised The Apprentice didn't pass the 7m mark because the match rated at least a million worse than Midsomer Murders and would've been over at 21:35, and we know that audiences tail off a lot for ITV's post-match coverage. The Apprentice was managing 6.5m against 8m rated football matches last year so I thought yesterday's episode would match last week's 7.4m considering Tottenham's match didn't even get half of what some matches were getting last year up against Apprentice. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad rating, but I think it's a little underwhelming.

I think the Apprentice will see a rise of around a million when the officials come out.

By the way, does anyone know how Lip Service is rating on BBC3?

Solid for Emmerdale. That rating for the football seems pretty poor, but tbh I never know quite what to expect for those sort of games. As for TA, I expected it to be at least at 7.5m last night considering the poor competition. Long way to go yet. I'd expect it to start getting some form of momentum in the following weeks.
