Think I'll give it a miss. I'm not against the idea of a US remake of Shameless, but as you said from the trailer, it looks to lack the grittiness and charm of the original. I might watch the first episode, if it's well received on here but otherwise I think I'll stick with the origional (which is airing around the same time).

Channel 4 really needs to sort itself out.
They should have realised after the poor ratings of the Gary Glitter "doc" that no-one wants to watch this boring nonsense. Controversy doesn't automatically get ratings. In fact, it's often quite the opposite. A new head of programming and commissioning is in order, I think. |

Some low figures there, the football on C5 must've done well and dented some of those programmes. Watchdog's 4.2m was down from recent weeks, although it remains a great alternative to the ITV soaps. It must be ages since HIGNFY fell that low against normal competition - it's fallen lower against live episodes of BGT, IAC and Leaders Debate but it should be doing better against an underperforming L&O: UK. And very poor for Reggie Perrin - it's BBC1's worst rating for an original show between 9-10pm since May, when High Street Dreams had 1.9m. The Prince Harry documentary on C4 also failed to deliver a decent audience; another flop for the channel.

I was a bit shocked to see this healdine on DS " BBC's Spending Review coverage tops 21m". I thought for a second that maybe RobbieSykes had joined PJMilllar on the DS reporting team.
Does this mean the BBC's Spending Review coverage is more popular than X Factor? |

We don't have a reach figure for TXF - it's possible that with all the repeats on ITV2, ITV1 daytime, online taken into account, in addition to the 15.2m peak who watched TXF live last Sunday, TXF reaches 21m too. |

Another 8pm-midnight win for CH5, over CH4. I know I keep mentioning this, but it is happening on a much more regular basis lately and it really shouldn't be happening. It highlights how strong CH5's schedule is atm and how weak CH4's is.
BBC1's comedy block seemed hit by the football and BBC2's schedule is underperforming imo. |

Channel 4 just seems to be lurching from one nightmare to another. BB is gone, reliable property and food shows look weaker than they have in the past, and almost everything new they try is failing. They'll take This is England '86 as a success from the autumn I suppose, but they desperately need Million Pound Drop to do well in its second run. IMO, a major overhaul is needed with some big and brave decisions made - thats not exactly what I associate with Jay Hunt... --- Horrific numbers for Reggie Perrin and you wonder why the hell they brought it back for a second series. A bit of desperation, I suppose. HIGNFY was poor, but I doubt anyone will worry unduly. The bounce has well and trully gone from the '...watch' brand for BBC Two. The switch to weekly was a bad idea and presenter changes seem to have damaged it. |

Those ratings for C4 are very poor indeed. Someone must be panicking at C4 HQ.
Solid for all the soaps, with the exception of the first Emmerdale, which even exc. HD, seems a touch on the low side considering it was the start of the trial last night. L&O: UK holding up well against BBC1, and that rating for Reggie Perrin is also very poor. I can't see another series on the cards. Then again, the fact they brought it back at all was a strange decision. |

The DS article was based on this press release from the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre.../21/news.shtml
The 21m figure is a reach figure. We don't have a reach figure for TXF - it's possible that with all the repeats on ITV2, ITV1 daytime, online taken into account, in addition to the 15.2m peak who watched TXF live last Sunday, TXF reaches 21m too. You can't really compare them as the 21m figure, includes all the News bulletins, the BBC2 special, Newsnight plus all the web hit. If we included the web hits - the X Factor would have about 90m extra viewers - Robbie wouldn't have an answer to that!

Some interesting ratings. Law and Order did well I think last night considering the football on Five, but no doubt it was helped by Reggie Perrin flopping, must be one of the only things Martin Clunes has been in that is turning into a flop!

Provisional schedules for Saturday 5th November out:
BBC One 15:00 - F1: Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying 17:20 - BBC News 17:45 - Walk on the Wild Side 18:15 - Strictly Come Dancing 19:40 - Merlin 20:25 - Lottery Draws 20:40 - Casualty 21:30 - The Armstrong and Miller Show 22:00 - BBC News 22:20 - Match of the Day ITV1 18:15 - All Star Family Fortunes 19:00 - You've Been Framed! 19:40 - Harry Hill's TV Burp 20:00 - The X Factor 21:30 - Piers Morgan's Life Stories * note - UK TV Guides lists this 22:00 to 22:30, but that is wrong 22:30 - ITV News Other notable mentions: - F1: Brazilian Grand Prix on 6th November is live from 15:10 to 18:15, so will not interfere with BBC1's primetime schedule - Video Exclusive: Susan Boyle on 6th November at 18:55 on ITV1 - Downton Abbey finale on 6th November is 90 minutes from 21:00 - TBA on ITV1 on Tuesday, 9th November from 20:00 to 22:00, any ideas? It's not Football, and it can't be a series because I'm a Celebrity starts the following Sunday. My only guess is that it'll be a Midsomer Murders repeat, but that'd be pointless considering it'll probably be on the very next day (which, also has two hour blanks at 8pm and 9pm). |

CH4 is suffering because it has become too closely associated with twenty-something trash.
So even good programmes are given a wide berth and documentary that just screams tackiness (like the Prince Harry thing) only reinforces this view. It's shocking to think that CH4 is now a low-end trash channel in it's brand, actually below ITV2 since they at least have some range in their tack. |

What did Pretty Little Liars get last night on VIVA? It was promoted very heavily over the last month.
