Good rating for Strictly last night.

Anything for Friday nights soaps yet?

Keeping Anne Widdicombe to the end of the show each week is no doubt helping Strictly's average.

And why not? She's comedy gold. As are Craig's comments afterwards.

Over 7m for a chat show with one guest is astonishing really. But no doubt Piers will go on about it for years to come”

I expect he'll be talking about his 8m viewers as though they're regulars! Rod Stewart next week will probably be a bit lower though I could still see it doing well compared to most episodes. He has definitely got some better guests.

Most episodes seem to fall into the 4-5m range, IIRC it has only gone over 5m for Katie Price (5.2m), Simon Cowell (5.6m) and Cheryl Cole (7.2m). And I think the lowest was about 2m for the ratings star that is Michael Winner!

Incredible for Life Stories, getting 3m more than normal.
Bril for Strictky, Merlin and good for X Factor. (only saying good is because the Judges Homes were so huge that you would expect around 14.5m by now)

Wow, I was not expecting that for Life Stories - although with her profile in this country perhaps it shouldn't come as a great shock.

Really good for Strictly, X Factor and Life Stories.

Strictly deserves its higher ratings, they've really stepped up their game. Hardcores in the SCD forum seem to hate everything about it, but thats to be expected when you refresh the show and it really needed refreshing.

I have to admit I did catch a bit of it last night and I really like the changes. The show seems a lot fresher than recent years.

Wow, a big drop off for the last hour of the 7.45-11pm TXF marathon - a 5m slump for the last hour...!

Yes and after Piers they're showing yet again Rod Stewart; For One Night Only with the sycophantic Ben Shephard.

I'm glad that SCD is doing well. It's upped it's game big time. I wouldn't be suprised if it had the highest ever finale rating this year.

XF doing well as expected I think they could have a sunday results night high this week.

F1 Ratings for anyone apart from me interested.

05:00 to 07:30 - 0.76m (39.5%)
13:00 to 14:30 - 1.74m (17.9%)

Not surprised at all with the Life Stories rating. Cowell got an overnight of 5.6m without having one of his shows as a lead-in and without as much promotion. 7m+ is not a shock at all.

Brilliant for Strictly, yet another weekly increase. The longer Ann stays in the better for the show. Merlin getting 5.8m against X Factor also deserves recognition.

Just noticed this... must be a while since Emmerdale had over 7m on a Friday!

Life Stories does depend on the guest and Cheryl unsurprisenly did very well. I wonder how Louis Walsh, Amanda Holden or even Ant and Dec would rate. I like Life Stories better than Piers' other shows as he's a great interviewer.

I know he did Gordon Brown but think it would good if he could do the likes of Tony Blair or David Cameron.

Absolutely. It's miles better than it was last year. They've embraced a little less ballroom, and a little more fun entertainment. For the casual viewer, thats absolutely the right choice. The ratings are superb and must be everything the BBC could really have hoped for, after the stagnation which hit last years run. Merlin also did brilliantly and definately benefitted from running in line - not slightly after - TXF. With timeshifts, that show is on for a significant increase from last series' average.

TXF continues in the same vein as we've come to expect, and it fuelled the Cheryl Cole interview perhaps even better than expected. For that audience, in that slot, she's pretty much the perfect guest. Harry Hill is the slight dissappointment for ITV - I suppose he's been hit by Strictly's resurgance, but there's something missing. I watched for the first time this series yesterday and didn't really enjoy it - too many lengthy sketches and recurring bits. It felt like 50% old material.

Dannii's had 4.8m last year after X Factor. Sharon Osbourne had 4.5m after DOI in the first ever episode. So I think Louis/Amanda and Ant & Dec would come in similar (4-5m).
