The Xtra Factor is literally unwatchable at the moment. There are very few things I am forced to turn off, I can usually watch even the most cringeworthy tv, but I really couldn't stand to watch it tonight.
It's not even just Konnie - the whole style is like SMTV/Live and Kicking and it just puts too much of the potential audience off. I know ITV2 is aimed at young people, but not under 12s. If they did a sensible, grown-up 30 minute programme with backstage footage/interviews I think they could easily get 2-3m viewers. |

Sky's revamp of their entertainment portfolio continues, looks like Living will be rebranded Sky Living in the New Year and Sophie Turner Laing has confirmed that Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky Atlantic will occupy slots 106, 107 and 108 on the Sky EPG. All mentioned in a Guardian article about Sky shortly beginning production on Treasure Island, to be shown on Sky1 in 2012. Quote:
Sky is not renowned for period dramas, but the broadcaster is planning to boost its investment in original drama by 400% between 2009/10 and 2011/12. http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/20...reasure-island
In a bid to highlight its entertainment credentials, the broadcaster is moving Sky1, Sky Living and Sky Atlantic to the top of the Sky Digital electronic programme guide. Sky Atlantic, due to launch early next year, will feature US drama including Mad Men and HBO content such as Martin Scorsese's eagerly-awaited Boardwalk Empire. Turner Laing said Sky1, Sky Living and Sky Atlantic will have slots 106, 107 and 108 – right after the five main terrestrial channels - so Sky can "highlight for our customers the best of entertainment pay at the top of the EPG". |

This week's main significant primetime regional variations:
Sunday 24th Oct - BBC1 Scotland aired "Making Scotland's Landscape" at 20:00 instead of Antiques Roadshow. - STV aired Taggart at 21:00 instead of Downton Abbey. Tuesday 26th Oct - BBC1 Scotland airing River City instead of Holby City. - BBC1 Scotland airing Holby City at 22:35 instead of Traffic Cops/Crimewatch update. Wednesday 27th Oct - BBC1 Scotland airing Sportscene (St Johnstone v Celtic) 19:30-21:30 and Helicopter Heroes 21:30-22:00, instead of Waterloo Road and The Apprentice. - BBC2 Scotland airing Waterloo Road at 20:00 and The Apprentice at 21:00 instead of "Masterchef: the professionals" and "Wonderland" respectively. - BBC2 Scotland airing "Masterchef: The Professionals" at 19:00 instead of Coast rpt. - STV airing "Wild Islands" at 20:00 and "In Search of Burke and Hare" at 21:00 instead of new 2hr Poirot at 20:00. Thursday 28th Oct - STV airing Underbelly at 21:00 instead of Law And Order UK. So this week's editions of The Apprentice and Waterloo Road air on BBC2 for Scottish viewers. BBC HD airs WR and Apprentice as normal. |

Very good figures. Merlin really excelling itself in doing so well against the X-Factor.
I'm glad this didn't go after the X-Factor final but if it had, it may have been heading towards 9m even 10m ![]() It's very difficult for BBC1 to compliment Downton Abbey, as the channel has hardly any post-watershed weekend draws for younger viewers - so it's difficult. Single Father is holding up well though - it should continue to do okay. |

it seems as though viewers are getting used to sticking with ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm on Sundays.

From Channel 4 Sales, seeing as our normal 'sources' are taking tediously long to update:
Channel 4 (inc +1) 17:30 - Time Team: 1.37m 19:00 - The Genius Of British Art: 0.61m 20:00 - Undercover Boss USA: 0.81m 21:00 - The Secret Millionaire: 2.22m 22:00 - Desperate Housewives: 1.43m All-Day Shares BBC1 - 18.3% (last week: 17.1%) ITV1 - 16.9% (17.4%) BBC2 - 8.7% (7.7%) C4* - 5.5% (5.8%) C5 - 4.2% (4.2%) |

It was a curious decision for ITV1 to repeat TXF at 9.25am yesterday and put the Coronation Street omnibus on in the early afternoon. I've no idea what the logic of this is but would be interested in the figures for both.

I wouldn't really read too much into the Xtra Factor Saturday figure, if the Daily Star are citing 493k then (if we're to take that with a grain of truth) the rest must have been on +1. Xtra Factor is wallpaper viewing, it isn't compulsive like X Factor is and with the Cheryl Cole Life Stories directly against it, it was always going to suffer. Last nights figure will have been closer to 1m. This series hasn't been doing great but its not as bad as it could be. 1m is still a relatively healthy figure for ITV2 as a standlone show but it could be doing a bit better.

Another strong Sunday for ITV1 - Downton Abbey appears remarkably steady. The X Factor continues to narrowly beat the equivalent ratings from last year.
The growth from the second results show to the third is exactly the same this year as it was last year. |

Where ITV lose in the 7-8pm slot they are gaining in the 9-11pm slot on Saturdays. Overall its a net win to ITV. |
