That's a really good figure for Bootcamp. Usually the ratings dip for Bootcamp, but based on the peak it looks like yesterday's average was roughly the same (if not better) than how the Saturday audition shows have been rating.

Breakfast ratings are easy for the press to misunderstand.

Take Sky News Sunrise for example (as we have published ratings).

Last week it took eight of the top ten, with the highest being 156,000. Yet Sky News' reach for the week was 5.5m.

The average journalist will assume from that 5.35m don't watch Sunrise. When of course the true viewership is much higher.

11.3m average for X Factor, up on both Bootcamp episodes from last year.

Impressive - most watched episode of the series and most watched bootcamp episode ever (up 2.2m from last year's equivalent episode which at the time was a record high for a Saturday night bootcamp show).

Before this series started I was certain its ratings would be down compared to last year (especially after BGT fell), but it's on an even higher level this series with ratings for the first 7 episodes up 9% compared to the same episodes last year.

Crazy that even after the heights it hit last year, it's still increasing so much in the ratings year-on-year.

Does the end of the series co incide with the corrie anniversary?

Yep, sort of. The X Factor ends on 12th December, which will be 3 days after the Corrie 50th Anniversary. That week is going to be a big one for ITV, they'll have the I'm a Celebrity Final a few days before the Corrie 50th too. No doubt they'll hype the week up a lot, I've already seen 'Corrie 50' break bumpers and there's still over 2 months to go!

really don't know where the extra viewers are coming from! Is it a case of younger viewers now tuning in who weren't old enough to watch the first few series?

it also could be benefiting from its acts like Alexandra Burke and JLS becoming genuine big stars, rather than the 'Xmas number 1, then obscurity' of many previous series stars.

the show does have the best PR machine going though, this week we've had Dannii and Sharon/Kelly reigniting their feud (Sharon is appearing on next weekend's shows), today we have prostitute Chloe 'caught' taking Cocaine...the tabloids lap it up and so do the viewers.

Walk on the Wildside seems to be a bit of a weak link in BBC1's teatime slot, getting BBC1's lowest share of the day. Good rating for Merlin - up 200k from last week. It might dip next week due to TXF starting at the same time but I think it'll start growing once TXF moves to 8pm and with figures like this, it should be good for a 4th series. In It To Win It suffered at the hands of TXF but it was expected, and high 3's isn't too bad. Casualty improved due to less of a clash against TXF. Solid ratings for BBC1 from 9.25pm, especially MOTD which I think had its highest rating in ages.

All Star Family Fortunes had a good rating and as already stated, excellent for The X Factor. Solid for Simply Red too - I thought they'd rate worse than Phil Collins. The movie premieres not doing too well for ITV (well, apart from Bourne Ultimatum).

Im not sure why ITV are bothering with these film premieres on Saturday nights. Knocked Up seemed to be higher than Charlie Wilson's War last week but still its a poor rating.

The problem seems to be that these films dont have widespread appeal and would be more suited to C4 or C5.

There really is no stopping TXF this year. It just seems to break records every week. I still don't see it getting record numbers for the live shows because it seems that the bar was set remarkably high last year but on this evidence I guess anything is possible now.

Last Sundays episode is the most watched episode of the series so far. It had 11.6m. The episode last year had 8.9m (for whole slot) so is actually up 2.4m.

All ratings provided by DS and Broadcast are tape-checked. Although they haven't reported the ratings yet, I'm assuming the tape-checked one for this week is also 11.3m (same as the full slot average) since it finished at ~20:58.

There's always going to be a few differences in the overnights comparisons these days as some websites report tape-checked ratings and some report full slot figures etc.

Yeah the overnights have become abit more complicated these days with different sets of ratings been reported. The officials are always the best source anyway, even if BARB change them months later!

Merlin starts at 7.05 pm next Saturday and TXF at 7.30.The Jay Hunt madness of scheduling SCD against TXF has ended with Strictly 6.00-7.05 and TXF 7.30-9.00.Excellent figures for MOTD, also for BBC Breakfast which is on a par with its weekday edition.

X Factor begins at 7.05pm next Saturday, same time as Merlin. TXF will be 115 minutes long so will fully clash with Merlin, In It To Win It and about half of Casualty.

But it'll get a much bigger lead-in from Strictly than it did from Total Wipeout, so that might cancel out the clash.

Merlin has certainly done enough to justify the commission of series 4, but I read (possibly in this thread. I can't remember.) that the producers had a 5 year plan for the series, so maybe the BBC should commission series 4 and 5 at the same time.

They commissioned 2 series of New Tricks and My Family. Does that work out cheaper for the BBC? Or is it only cheaper if the series are recorded back-to-back as My Family has done?

Maybe the redtops brainwashing exercise is working as I can guarantee what will always be on the front cover every Saturday in the autumn. However, 49 million of us are still resisting the show.

If we put things in that type of perspective you are right of course, the figures that XF are getting now are what moderately successful comedy The Detectives used to post week on week in the nineties and Go With Noakes once posted 11 million plus. Having said that nothing else is coming near the 11.7 million and it has turned the tide on the marginal reductions that BGT and DOI saw earlier this year. Quite why I dont know, I turned on for a few minutes to come across that Chloe(I think) singing like how I would imagine a scalded cat to sound and that was enough for me.
The format has only been moderate in Australia I gather and I am not convinced it will sweep all before it in America given that Idol is so entrenched there. However the combination works here without any doubt and I think we will be looking at 12 or 13 million averages for the live shows. No doubt as the weeks go by the tabloids will go ott and the question of XF missing a year will be played up as far as it can be to fan the interest further. Its that time of the year again folks-like it or loathe it, its impossible to ignore it.
