Which I notice is again scheduled for a 90m "slot".

That may make the "ad proportion" interesting for next week.

Yesterday, according to ITVPlayer, TXF ran for 56m in a 75m slot and DA ran for 66m in a 90m slot, making a total "ads and sponsorship rate" of 26% across that 2h45m of programming. I realise that OfCom have relaxed the rules for primetime recently, but aren't ITV1 in danger of breaking them next week? (or are weekends different?)

well there are promos and other stuff in there too.
Ad rules are 40 mins total in the 6-11pm timeframe with a max of 12 minutes per hour.

The probably ran the full 40 minutes between 7.45 and 10.30 which they could just get away with under current rules

They must have had quite a high proportion of "promos etc" last night then:

In 2h45m last night there was 43m of "non-programme" content. So 33m of that was allowed to be ads, leaving 7m for the other 2h15m?

K

Edit: The Cube ran for 46m in its hourlong slot so probably no reduction in ad content for that? ITV must have been very close to going beyond what OfCom allow, mustn't they?

Wow! 12.6m for the second bootcamp episode. The same episode last year had 10.9m. The growth of this show is incredible!

Also most watched episode of the series so far!

To be fair, the share is more or less the same as the other episodes, it's just that more people were watching TV last night and an average of 58% didn't watch it.

Fantastic start for Downton Abbey and The X Factor is storming ahead. And I thought it had peaked last year. Incredible. BBC1 held up very well too.

WOW. I know we keep saying surely XF has peaked and I really did think after seeing 13m+ figures last year, that would certainly be the peak. But 12.6m for a bootcamp episode is phenomenal for what it is. It actually puzzles me at why the show is so high. I love the show, but I always thought the bootcamp episodes would be lower. Could next weeks top 13m?!

Also very strong for a new ITV drama, especially a period one. Looks like ITV may have found a new hit. Surprised to see two dramas against each other doing so well. I do think the show could get a Doc Martin effect and increase as the show goes on, especially with better lead ins and no Gently competition and the earlier finishing time.

Very strong for the two film premieres aswell. Looks like the amazing Sunday figures have started again. The XF effect actually boosts the other terrestrials.

Im sure Simon will be considering how needed Dannii and Cheryl are now

As expected a great night for ITV1. But BBC One held up much much better than ITV1 would if the shoe was on the other foot.

Interesting that Downton beat Sherlock's opening audience of 7.5m and 28.5% share. Both were 90 minute episodes on a Sunday at 9pm so it seems a fair comparison, although obviously late September is peachier than late July.

Classic. Why would he be considering that exactly? Even though she's not been in most of it, Cheryl has been in the papers more than any of the others put together.

It's about what creates the column inches. Nothing else.

The share is up 2.4% on last Sunday's episode and up 2% on the equivalent episode last year.
And incidentally, I think the reason more people were watching TV last night was precisely because the X-Factor was on. Taking the peak of 14.24m (48.1%) for X-Factor, that means 29.6 million were watching TV at that time, which is a phenomenal number by UK standards. Typically it would be around 23-25million at that time of day.

If additional people who weren’t watching TV at all beforehand tune into the X-Factor then the share rises much less than the effect of people who were watching other channels beforehand tuning into the X-Factor.

Does that include +1 surely only the BBC 10 News was higher

Goodness me. Major timeshift rise for The Inbetweeners!

The base figure was special in itself, but that is something else. Where does that put it in the list of most watched multi-channel shows of all time?

Near the top WAT, Footie and EE:Live aftermath being in the top 5

only timeshifted viewing including

excludes +1 figures, so you'd have to think it would be over 4m with those

anyway I've got to get back to adding the figures, otherwise there'll be nothing for you guys to see

back later

I stand to be corrected, but I don't think the BBC paid for cinema adverts and glossy 2 page press adverts to promote Sherlock. But, hey, fair play to ITV. Their promotion worked brilliantly for them.

6.2m for Antiques Roadshow against X Factor. Impressive. Are you taking note, Casualty producers?

Thanks. Pretty high then! Seems it will easily be E4's most watched of all-time, 1 million viewers higher than its previous best - 2.46m for an episode of Friends in 2003.

Its interesting we've always assumed getting 1.5-2million was great for multichannel but there's a massive potential audience out there. E4 is hardly at the top like BBC3 on 115

Sensational for The X Factor - well up from the same episode last year and that peak for a non-live show is incredible realy. With it hitting 14m peaks right now, the live shows could be peaking with 15/16m+. Good solid start for Downton Abbey - it's good seeing a drama pulling in a mass audience like that, and although it will probably drop next week, starting with such a high audience gives extra insurance to stay above the necessary recommission levels.

BBC1 held up incredibly well. 6m+ for CF and AR (especially the latter) against the sort of competition it was against, is absolutely brilliant, and George Gently pulled in a really good audience too. Both channels had a strong evening all things considered.
