Very poor night for Ten. The 7pm Project, Undercover Boss and Good News Week all rated lower than they should. It's a shame they didn't make more episodes of Junior MasterChef so they could split it over Sundays and Mondays, and maybe other nights too.

The Event didn't do well at all especially compared to FlashForward in the same slot last year, but relative to its competition it wasn't a disastrous result.

I think what we are really starting to see now with the rise of digital networks in Australia is some serious declines on the main networks. Last night was really quiet compared to a year ago when there were 8 shows above the 1.2m mark, compared to just 4 last night.

Can't wait. :sleep: Yet again, the best lead in the year gets nothing in terms of a long term benefit.

The X Factor did fantastically last night and at least provided something for a series to benefit from. I thoguht it'd dip, but the figure actually beats many of the Live Show ratings from last year. BBc1 held up brilliantly, and they'll be very happy with their performance.

Going back to Friday...over saturation seems to be hurting Come Dine With Me badly. They should drop the repeats and let the new series air alone.

Downtown Abbey shedding so many viewers by programme end, so it is likely to tail off even further next week,TXF is becoming so generic a mix of hopeless and adequate singers destined to be forgotten by 2011 - yet viewers are lapping it up (there is no accounting for lack of taste)

Such a sleepy line up is hardly going to grab many viewers under the age of 50 - must they all endure TXF just because of BBC stubborness?

I read it was the Semi-final.

ITV need to stop throwing away these post-BGT and XF final slots to one-offs and "destined to flops". Perfect place to laugh a new series to 16-34 and they dont even try it.

Excellent demographics news for Downton Abbey. According to the Digital-i blog it had 3.7m ABC1 viewers plus a further 170k on HD, so 3.9m (ish) in total. For 16-34 viewers it had 900k plus 40k on HD.

To put that into perspective the Downton Abbey ABC1 viewership beats out all other current ITV drama including Coronation Street. 16-34 wise there are only 3 ITV dramas that come in higher (well 4 including Corrie). Although to be fair, this is me comparing the first episode of Downton Abbey to entire series averages for the other dramas.

DCI Banks beats Spooks: 5.7m to 5.2m
Next week it's likely to swing the other way, obviously a larger Corrie lead-in helped, with Panorama only just scraping 2m.

Corrie led the soap ratings, 9.3m at 7.30pm and 9.8m at 8.30pm, over 40% shares for both, EastEnders close behind with 9m (37%). Emmerdale with 6.9m.

Firstly, in the morning ratings it looks like a new low for Daybreak with only half the audience of Breakfast (although Lorraine would shorten the gap). Poor stuff - I'd thought it had stabilised at 0.8m. As for the evening, a strong one for ITV1 with Coronation Street pulling in some large figures and unusually beating EastEnders for both its episodes. DCI Banks started well too; I don't think it could've done much better against Spooks but I reckon it'll fall about ~15% next week to the high 4's so Spooks will probably be back ahead of ITV1.

Solid evening for BBC1 apart from Panorama. Spooks didn't fall much and it's good that they've got rid of the BBC3 repeats otherwise it'd have been under the 5m mark. Strong 8-9pm hour for BBC2 with University Challenge getting its highest rating of the series so far - so far it hasn't really been hitting the heights of last year's series which was consistently getting 3m+ at this stage but maybe it'll grow from here onwards. Good start for MasterChef: The Professionals, a little up from last year's launch.

Another poor set of ratings for C4, with C5 averaging more between 7.30-10pm. How Do They Do It did quite well in a difficult slot and good to see The Gadget Show back over 1m. Inbetweeners got its highest rating of the series so far which is brilliant.

Wow again for Inbetweeners, amazing share for a digital channel and still pulling in 2.6 million not including timeshift.

Impressive start for DCI:Banks launching against an established BBC1 crime drama which has already had a one week head start. I think if next weeks episode remains above 5m, we could be seeing DCI:Banks again. Not sure Stephen Tomkinson is right in the lead role, but ITV could do with a new long running drama, even if it is a crime one. Good to see ITV sticking with what they know with their dramas now. Not many drama flops in the last year or so. Hard to remember just a couple of years ago we had The Palace, Rock Rivals, Echo Beach & Britannia High

Good for Spooks, but I reckon it's going to struggle when Whitechapel returns.

CH4's starting to have a bit of a nightmare with flops all over the place and not much in the new Autumn schedule has performed well. The Inbetweeners beating everything on CH4 primetime yesterday. Also Hollyoaks still showing little signs of improving.

Good to see H&A hit that 1m mark-first time since it returned I think and a solid performance from 7.30-10pm aimed at the young male audience.

Corrie up on last Mondays double-bill by 0.5m & 0.4m. The share for the second Corrie also seems better than normal. Solid for EE and Emmerdale.

DCI Banks performed alot better than I was expecting. Spooks held up really well though. And again, wow at The Inbetweeners ratings. Very consistent. Shame this is the last series as its a great British Comedy.

Paul do have the Emmerdale rating for last Friday? Also was just wondering why the DS soap ratings updates have been very late recently?

AI for Downton Abbey was 88.2, which is pretty amazing for a first episode of a new drama. The only new BBC1/ITV1 drama which comes close to that for a first episode in the last couple of years is Sherlock which had 87.7. So it may well lose less than 20% of its audience, which I was previously expecting.

Seven Days had 63, nearly the lowest of the week but not quite. You can probably guess what's in bottom place.


I think some of the newspapers were referring to the Saturday final as the 'semi-final'. It's supposed to be airing on 11th December according to reports. I agree that the lead-in should be used better. It will probably rate well, perhaps as good as the Simon Cowell one which didn't have an XF lead-in (5.6m), but it's a good slot to try something new.


Nope, don't mind anyone using the tables etc . Yeah, that's a strong start for it in the key demos, especially ABC1s which matters more. Most ITV dramas skew about 40% but this one skews 50% towards ABC1s, though that's not surprising . I think if it can stay in or above the 2.5-3.0m ABC1 mark, it should be back for another series as no show with that sort of ABC1 audience has been axed on ITV in years.

Very impressive for DCI Banks and it would be interesting to see the retention rate over the hour.

Spooks was stronger without the BBC3 first view, but next week's figure will be key as last night was much less well received on Twitter and the forums than the opening episode.

This with the Downton Abbey/George Gently ratings really shows there is a strong appetite for good drama on both channels.

Good figures for the soaps last night, the 2nd Corrie benefiting from a very poor Panorama rating. Good start for DCI Banks as well.

I think so, but it could be that it got 749,000 as opposed to 762,000 a few weeks ago. Apparently Adrian & Christine won't be presenting tomorrow and Thursday and are being replaced with Kate & Dan. The audience index figures will be interesting for those days, and if prove to be a success then I guess the writing will be on the wall.

The last episode will probably get a huge rating by multichannel standards, especially if it really is the 'last ever' episode as it will probably get a lot of coverage in the press.

I think one of the reasons it's held up so well two weeks running is the repeats. With all the repeats and first airing together, there's a 5m+ audience, of which I suspect about 4m are 'unique' viewers. So with a large fanbase like that, viewers starting to watch the E4 first-look instead of the repeats will help it's Monday figures remain stable.


That's a solid breakdown. The smallest drop over the hour for a new ITV drama that I can remember. Quite surprised though, it was a very average show.


Some newspapers were saying that Friday also got 700k, so it looks like a tie.

I'm assuming you only get the figures to the nearest 100k, but the share %'s aren't radically different to last week (yesterday was 19.5% and from memory last week was something similar)

Thanks for these. It was a very average show and I'm not sure it will translate into a successful series. However, I think it will get a healthy audience next week and is likely to beat Spooks again (maybe with by a smaller margin) if ITV continue to promote it

DCI Banks was good, but not as good as Above Suspicion or Whitechapel.

It'll get another 2 parter next year

I think that's right. Another two parter makes more sense than a series imo, and ITV can hardly ignore those figures.
