Am I the only one who thought comedy roadshow would rate better this year. What with all the x factor viewers. I thought it would be getting 6 million

![]() They air on different channels - why would Roadshow benefit from X Factor? |

That seems to be the plan, get as much US TV behind the paywall as possible, like what they've done with sport. Taking Virgin out of the equation has made life a lot easier for them as well to get a monopoly on the genre.
Trouble is, the hit rate with US shows is quite low over here and quite a lot of them are not very good. Already this season Sky have found an absolute dud in Lonestar. I think fans of US TV could save themselves a fortune by cutting out Murdoch and spending their hard earned money on a select few boxsets instead - by FAR the best way to watch. No having to wait around for weeks on end for the next episode, for a start. ![]() No doubt some Sky customers will be positively salivating at the idea of all this U.S. content they will be getting. I wonder if they'll be as pleased when the letter comes through the door advising of a subs increase to pay for it all... Outbidding the BBC for Mad Men just sounds like an ego trip so they can get one over on the BBC. If Mad Men only gets 250,000 on BBC4, I cant see it doing any better hidden behind a paywall at Sky. |

As x factor had finished there is 12 million viewers, who might not like simply red. So they might turn over. I just thought the ratings would be better than last year not the same.

Getting a monopoly of top US shows will only get Sky so far, there is not a massive audience for US shows. They need to get a few good US dramas and then spend a lot on more homegrown shows if they are to be a serious player.
Outbidding the BBC for Mad Men just sounds like an ego trip so they can get one over on the BBC. If Mad Men only gets 250,000 on BBC4, I cant see it doing any better hidden behind a paywall at Sky. If Sky One really wants to be seen as the home of quality drama, then it should be investing in British drama and try and bring something new to the table, the way HBO originally did in the states. This will get more people to Sky, not Mad Men and an HBO catalogue that isnt what it once was. As for the comment about the 12 million people when x-factor finishes, alot of those viewers are the exact people that go to the pubs and clubs on a saturday night after it finishes, or have friends around and watch a DVD. |

These example aren't very good as the programmes aired around many different circumstances which have been previously mentioned. And just to be accurate Corrie had 11.1m on Snow Day.
![]() I expect close to 7m for the first episode of Whitechapel. It will be higher than the 5.7m that watched DCI Banks on Monday night and will dent Spooks further. ![]() Anyway, you've made your prediction and I've made mine. All will be revealed on October 10th. |

HBO's only real hit in the last few years is True Blood and that show is more mainstream compared to their critically acclaimed shows like Boardwalk Empire, Pacific and I think HBO realise this hence the investment in new shows like Game of Thrones.
Mad Men is critically acclaimed but it's low rated compared to say Burn Notice or The Closer. I imagine AMC make a loss intially but recoup through DVD and international sales. The Walking Dead which is coming at the end of October looks a lot more appealing and will likely do better ratings than Mad Men. I do like the look of Thorne on Sky1, that wouldn't have looked out of place on BBC One or ITV1 and I can see it doing well for them, |

Don't want to start any speculation about BB's future, but on Monday 11th October at 10pm Channel 5 are airing Josie & John James: What Happened Next?
For anyone who doesn't know, Josie & John James were a couple on Big Brother 11. Seems weird that C5 would be showing this! |

Another significant move by Sky in the entertainment/drama market, reportedly on the verge of taking over 'Mad Men' from the BBC next year after offering 25% more than the BBC's current deal.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...bbc?CMP=twt_gu Meanwhile Sky are apparently continuing discussions with AMC and Showtime about securing deals similar to the one they signed with HBO. |

And my point is so did Whitechapel. Unless you've heard an long-range weather forecast that says there's going to be heavy snow on October 9th.
![]() Anyway, you've made your prediction and I've made mine. All will be revealed on October 10th. ![]() The gap between S1 and S2 has been long which throws another unknown into the equation - have people retained an interest in the show? The difference between DCI Banks and Spooks is there wasn't an obvious overlap audience. A chunk of the original Whitechapel audience would have been Spooks fans as RPJ had only just left the show.

Just read that C4 have ordered another series of Pete Versus Life. I'm a little surprised, the first series did not rate that well at all!

I am particularly intrigued to see if the new shows end up on Sky 1 or if Sky have other ideas, they have yet to give any clear indication. I know some of the papers claimed 'Boardwalk Empire' would be shown on Sky 1 in January but Sky have yet to confirm where and when any of the HBO shows will be shown. I wonder might some be shown on Sky Movies Premier (like The Pacific) or if they launch a new entertainment channel.

Good night for BBC1 last night. Channel 4 went from the sublime at 9pm to the ridiculous at 10pm. The football did ok for ITV1 but not spectacularly - I bet they're cursing Liverpool not qualifying for the competition, though it'll be interesting to see how the match did on ITV4 this evening. |

Could it be on a better show yes, but Biggest Loser really hasnt had its chance primetime on a main channel in this country before, so who knows it MAY work, however I dont think the format will work, not because of who the host is. |

Oh dear, Garraways resentment towards Bleakley won't be helped if true. That would be two jobs she would have stolen
. For prime time, it needs a new host anyway. Kate is too 'daytime'.

Ouch for L&O, but it was as expected-if it fell to 4m against the football, then a combination of football & NT was always going to send it to near 3m. That said it's an awful result for a drama and ITV definitely won't be airing the next series on Thursdays and I doubt they'll be commissioning any more episodes until they see how the next batch perform. It was a decent experiment trying it out on Thursdays, but it's just not worked.
Surprised to see New Tricks so high though, with the day change and tougher competition than it has on a Friday, but the viewers it loses it tends to make up in the officials. |

I think that the HBO stuff will end up on the Movies channels, if you actually look at the HBOs US schedules it's actually very similar to the UKs Sky Movies (i.e. lots of first run/repeats of movies). Plus they'd all be shown as intended with no DOG or adverts.
