I wonder if Adrian and Christine will be begging for their jobs back on the One Show. Adrian's grouchy, blokeish personality surely isn't right for an ITV breakfast show.

l dobut the BBC would take them back, they would need to work for the national mininum wage, before the BBC take those two back.

Christine could quite easily abduct Alex Jones and then turn up at The One Show studio spouting a Welsh accent. No-one would notice the difference.

Anyone here think Downton Abbey could increase tonight, given ITV have done the clever tactic of repeating episode 1 this afternoon?

Broadcasters have repeated shows in the Sunday teatime slot and late-night before but it hasn't resulted in an increase in the first airing viewing figures. It might help minimise the drop-off for the 2nd episode but it's extremely unlikely the rating will increase.

I think the only new BBC1/ITV1 weekly drama series since 2007 to actually increase its rating for episode two was Britannia High, and that only happened due to the 2nd episode following on from a massive F1 rating (the race Hamilton clinched the title iirc).

Most dramas tend to drop off more than 10% for episode two, especially ITV ones which are prone to dropping off 20%+. Downton Abbey was quite well received so it'll be less of a drop compared to most dramas; I predict about 10% which would be about the same as Lark Rise to Candleford, the last big period drama to launch. If it manages to increase its rating, that would be an exceptional achievement, but I think it's v. unlikely to happen.

Apparently Christine is going to be presenting The Biggest Loser which is airing in primetime on ITV next year. This has the makings of a Tuesday night Flopzone show and will be a big flop, I suspect.

As much as that would make sense, it would need Ofcom to reduce the news quota for the 9.25-6am regional franchises (either that or a new half hour news bulletin would have to be added to the schedule)

With the new schedule this year, Merlin is up by under 0.1m, but with a much lower share.

Strictly Come Dancing is up by approx 0.3m, but with a much higher share.

X Factor is up by a massive 1.8m with a big increase in audience share.

Casualty is down, due to the bigger overlap with XF.

In It To Win it has about half the audience the second hour of last year's SCD got.

And, Walk on the Wild Side is way down on Hole in the Wall, cos it's crap.

nice to see the audience holding up for MOTD, 3.5 million is very good in this slot and shows the programme is still essential viewing.

Strictly Come Dancing did brilliantly for BBC1 and seemed to boost the schedule around it. ITV had a strong night with The X Factor and Piers Morgan but Family Fortunes did very poorly and I hope that's not a prelude to how the Harry Hill hour performs next week. The X Factor is performing fantastically but I wonder how the long running of the show will harm it next week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way, to add something else to the Daybreak debacle, I read in the Daily Mail today that ITV are paying the Coorporation of London money to keep St. Paul's Dome lit up for longer than usual, so they have the 'brilliant' backdrop behind Adrian and Christine in the morning. All that money used when they could've just kept GMTV...

Wow XF going to ads after 3 mins. It's going to be a long night.

Odd as last night's show was longer and didn't feel overloaded with ads.

It's a very American approach. They often broadcast a show with the introduction then an ad break. It's strange seeing it on British TV though!

They've got to get it in before 8pm. If they started on the first category, they probably wouldn't be able to squeeze it in.

It'll now be ads after every judge goes through their category.

It kinda killed the moment - the big build up then... Carphone Warehouse.

On another note - Australia looks brilliant in HD.

So "A big Twist" confirmed at the end of The XF - surely it can only be a wildcard?

it could be a crossover with X-Factor Australia, try and boost the ratings of its international cousin.

On the face of it a really bizarre decision by The X Factor not to put Gamu through to the live shows. She was clearly very uniquely talented and had a strong following. You only have to look at the 2.5m hits for her audition on YouTube to see that. In comparison, Katie, who did manage to secure a top 12 place, only had 1.6m.

But then I sat and thought some more about it and it became apparent that this was probably designed to generate lots of interest in the wildcard next week.

On top of that everything else was utterly predictable, so it probably needed a shock like this to get people talking and the newspapers excited.

Although just thinking In the final scenes when it announced the "Twist" there was a silhouette of a man standing in the distance. New judge?

Louis Walsh to be sacked live on air! Fantastic.

I still live in hope that the twist will be Simon announcing that he's sold the programme to the BBC.

Not sure if I should put this in spoilers or not but I think the wild card suggestion is pretty widely known at this stage.

Apparently the 4 wild card acts, one for each category, have already been chosen. Slightly surprising as you would think they would like the drama of choosing them live on air. There is not a fifth judge. What it does mean is that with 16 acts there will presumably have to be 2 acts sent home on a few of the Sunday results shows. Should also be noted that the wild cards were chosen a while back so they will be prepared to sing on Saturday and the decision won't be based on any public 'outrage' about certain decisions tonight.

It's worth noting that Gamu's audition was linked to all over the internet (including the US) because of the autotune debacle.

I think they need to make sure the wildcards are actually good. If their wildcard pick joins in week 2 and goes out the same night then it's going to look like a colossal waste of time! I think both the girls & boys categories have "leftovers" that will get through that way. The groups & overs aren't so strong.

The top 12 already looks pretty good, certainly from a TV perspective. Every category has far more distinct personalities than last year.

It's almost certain only one of these acts will make it through to the "top 13", with a vote on Saturday according to sources more reliable than the Daily Star.*

I think really they should have revealed the four acts tonight and have a vote throughout the week.

* Actually, that source is one uncredited post on another forum saying that's the case - so as I said, more reliable than the Daily Star!

Surely TXF is just one 5 month-long advert?

I still haven't caught up with the first episode yet but I'm glad to see Downton Abbey is getting great feedback on here once again. Hopefully that's reflected in the ratings and ITV start taking more risks on quality commissions like this.

Wonder might Daybreak's big showbiz announcement tomorrow be related to the XF wild cards?

Probably will be. In fact, I'll be surprised if ITV don't start firing in the likes of Cheryl and Louis to do "exclusive interviews" on the show very soon. They desperately need to shore up the ratings somehow.
