ABC:
8pm - Dancing With The Stars - 20.11m (4.3)
* Most watched show of the night
* Down 10% from last week
10pm - Castle - 11.91m (3.0)
* Up 7% from last week

CBS:
8pm - How I Met Your Mother - 8.59m (3.4)
* Down 11% from last week
8.30pm - Rules of Engagement - 8.45m (3.0)
* Down 6% from last week
9pm - Two and a Half Men - 14.24m (4.5)
* #1 show of the night among A18-49
* Down 6% from last week
9.30pm - Mike & Molly - 12.29m (3.8)
* Up 3% from last week
* Held 84% of lead-in, it's best retention yet
10pm - Hawaii Five-O - 12.03m (3.5)
* No change vs last week
* #1 at 10pm in viewers & A18-49

FOX:
8pm - House - 10.53m (3.9)
* Up 3% from last week
* 24% lower than last season
9pm - Lie To Me - 5.97m (2.2)
* 120% better than Lone Star last week
* Still not particularly good, given the slot
* 27% lower than last season

NBC:
8pm - Chuck - 5.37m (1.9)
* It wasn't NBC's lowest rating of the night!
9pm - The Event - 7.46m (2.4)
* Down 33% in the space of 2 weeks
10pm - Chase - 5.83m (1.7)
* Down 19% from last week
* Still 21% better than Jay Leno last year

ABC won the night with a 3.9 (up 8% vs 2009), ahead of CBS on 3.6 (down 5%) and FOX at 3.0 (down 27%). FOX improved 20% over last week having got rid of Lone Star. NBC was a distant 4th with a 2.0 - although it was an 11% improvement from last year.

In late night, lumbered with the sorts of lead-ins he gave Conan, Jay Leno finished 3rd in households and adults 18-49 behind Nightline and Letterman. CBS also won the second round with Craig Ferguson topping Jimmy Fallon.

CBS will be happy with Mike & Molly - it has kept 97% of its audience so far. Hawaii Five-O is doing decent numbers as well, although it's slightly behind CSI: Miami last year. Two and a Half Men was up, How I Met Your Mother was flat, Rules of Engagement was higher than Accidentally On Purpose.

The same can't be said for NBC's new series which are tanking. The Event is another FlashForward, Chase is a bomb as well. As for FOX, unless it improves, Lie To Me will either end up cancelled, in summer or on Fridays next fall when The X Factor and Terra Nova have to be accomodated.

According to some people it has been unofficially recommisioned. As long as it stays above 5.5m in the officials it should be OK.

so The Event is flopping, no big surprise there then.

Bizarre. It's it in the Hollyoaks slot as well. Is there any reason why Hollyoaks wouldn't be on E4 on October 22?

Channel 4 will be looking at the figures with discomfort. They are already heavily promoting the show like Five did for FlashForward last year. I hope the UK ratings are strong when it debuts at the end of the month.

I made a thread eslewhere asking why Five was willing to risk a very large amount of money, even pubically bragging about how it had beat Sky to the rights, to a show that was far from a sure thing.

It seems that The Event has pulled the same trick, its certinaly sold as well if not better than FlashForward did.

I wouldn't write off The Event just yet. NBC has ploughed a load of money into it and it's probably the most internationally purchased show of the new season. I think it'll likely stabilize at last nights numbers and NBC will stand by it. It's looking like the networks other new stuff (Undercovers, etc...) is flopping worse than The Event so i'd say it's relatively safe for the time being. Comparatively they stuck with Heroes until it dropped to around 4 million.

Shame about Lie To Me, but it was getting similar ratings throughout the summer and they still renewed it, so there's hope for it yet i think. It's not like they'd have anything to replace it with anyway seeing as it was the replacement in the first place!

both of those things were true of Flashforward.

ok I expect The Event will get a full season from NBC, again like Flashfoward but after that its on the wrong side of the bubble.

Maybe the fact NBC has a lower threshold for what is and is not a hit, than ABC, but lets say The Event was on ABC, im sure it would be axed just like FlashForward.

Yeah definitely, but ABC had a stronger line-up of shows last year (particularly with the final season of an established hit like Lost) so they could afford to axe FlashForward when it dipped, but NBC doesn't really have much going for it at the moment in terms of dramas (new or old). I think as long as it stays above 6 million it'll be fine.

Lie To Me was a last minute scheduling decision so I imagine many wouldn't have necessarily been aware that it was back so early. It was originally scheduled for Wednesdays from mid December. Most reviews suggest the quality has really ramped up with the new showrunners involved.

you maybe right, the fact The Event is on the lower rated NBC, may mean it escapes the fate of FlashFoward, but that is hardly a postivite thing.

A leak from a Virgin Media source appears to suggest that ESPN will launch ESPN 2, ESPN Sports News and ESPN Sports News HD in the new year.

Hopefully this will be confirmed in the media soon. Great to see the ESPN network expanding in the UK and ending Sky's dominance in the sports news market.

Very impressive for a Channel that's behind a pay wall and a similar rating to what a show like this would get on E4 or even ITV2 with minimal promotion. The NTM franchise seems to be a respected brand now and in America does very well on cable.

At a 2.4, that would be enough for a second season on NBC. But the problem is that it looks to be sliding fast. Generally, you would hope for some stability around episodes 3-5 but The Event took a big tumble this week shedding 0.5 from last weeks 2.9. On the other hand, CBS' Mike & Molly was up and Hawaii Five-O was steady.

The only positive is that it's doing better than shows from hit producers like Jerry Bruckheimer (Chase) and JJ Abrams (Undercovers). Bruckheimer's days of being able to pitch anything must be coming to an end based on his recent track record.

Then again, it has been a horrible start for new series overall. All last seasons hits are flying high and overshadowing the newbies. So far, it looks like Mike & Molly is the "breakout" hit.

I disagree. At the rate it has been dropping from episode to episode, I don't think the bleeding can be stopped.

It lost around 2 million from the first episode to the second.
And then it lost around 1.5 million from the second episode to the third. And it didn't even start with high numbers so it doesn't have room to drop more than this - but it will. These numbers right now are enough to keep it around, but it won't stay at this level.

If it gets picked up for a full season (and I suspect it will due to NBC's troubles), I expect it to be losing audience from Chuck by around April, and averaging around 4 million viewers. Of course, this is just my opinion and in no way fact.

In the past several years, every serialized show on network TV of this sort has failed. None have lasted longer than season 2, and the few that made it to season 2 (V, T:SCC) were pulling low numbers by the end of season 1, and by season 2 in the case of T:SCC, the numbers got even lower. I expect V to be pulling series lows too. When a show of this genre loses its audience, they're extremely unlikely to get them back - but are likely to lose more.

I enjoy The Event, but I'm being realistic. It's following the pattern of all those before it, and so it isn't done dropping yet.

Don't forget* that Seven Viewers is on at 10pm tonight, Channel 4 having decided that the best way to boost a flagging programme's ratings is to screen it 24 hours earlier that advertised in the listings magazines.

Closer to 6m actually when you add in the Thursday E4 repeat too. Would be interesting to know how it's doing on 4oD too.

A bit odd and unprecedented. Only thing I can think of is I think Hollyoaks Later is due October 25th, but even if it did link into the episode it wouldn't matter if it was on the Friday.

They'd be stupid to pull the First Look episode completely - they wouldn't get all the viewers transferring to C4, and having such a show which brings an audience nightly to E4 really gives them a platform to promote their evening shows around.

Desperate Housewives is ABC - so that would make it CBS 4, ABC 4, and Fox 2, for what it's worth.

What those lists really show is just how little impact the new shows have made. Nothing entering the Top 10 by either demos or viewers. CBS have had a couple of relatively decent comedies, plus Hawaii 5-O, which they've helped with good lead-ins.

Fox had a stinker with Lone Star after House on Mondays - and the comedies after Glee on Tuesdays look a bit shaky given the huge lead-in.

On the other networks, I really don't feel enough risks have been taken in scheduling. I can understand why, but ABC seem terrified of breaking up any combinations that are working (on Sun, Mon and Thurs particularly) to try and launch new shows. The only place where NBC displayed any boldness - Thursday - has been OK, with 30 Rock holding well at 8.30, and Outsourced at least given a shot after The Office.
