Desperate Housewives is ABC - so that would make it CBS 4, ABC 4, and Fox 2, for what it's worth.

What those lists really show is just how little impact the new shows have made. Nothing entering the Top 10 by either demos or viewers. CBS have had a couple of relatively decent comedies, plus Hawaii 5-O, which they've helped with good lead-ins.
It's the first time in 5 years that no new series has made it into the top 10. I think things changed last year - shows which had dominated for years (like CSI) became less formidable (particularly in the demo) and The Big Bang Theory, Glee, Undercover Boss and Modern Family came in as the "buzz" shows. They all seem to have come back strong and dominated the summer "hype" season while the new shows just couldn't generate interest. Maybe something will crop up in midseason, but there's certainly nothing starting with a bang. Though the good news for the networks is that thanks to the strength of returning hits, the absence of Jay Leno and CBS' scheduling flips they're only down 2% overall - one of the best performances for years. CBS has Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-O and to a lesser extent, Blue Bloods. All FOX's hopes are really on "Raising Hope" for now. ABC will hope "No Ordinary Family" holds up well tonight and NBC only seem to have LOLA. Flops at FOX probably aren't a huge issue - they need to clear 3-4 hours by next fall for The X Factor and Terra Nova. Quote:
On the other networks, I really don't feel enough risks have been taken in scheduling. I can understand why, but ABC seem terrified of breaking up any combinations that are working (on Sun, Mon and Thurs particularly) to try and launch new shows. The only place where NBC displayed any boldness - Thursday - has been OK, with 30 Rock holding well at 8.30, and Outsourced at least given a shot after The Office.
The problem with ABC seems to be that nobody (internally) had any confidence in its line-up of new series and on reflection, they may have been right! No Ordinary Family was deliberately placed at 8pm to get a family audience - though I'd question why they picked the toughest 8pm hour of the week. Deadline are reporting that Outlaw could be cancelled soon and The Apprentice might be moved from Thursdays at 10pm to make way for LOLA - with SVU going back to 10pm on Wednesdays. But they haven't made their minds up yet. http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/nbc-...bc/#more-72693 |

September Primetime Shares
Here's the September primetime averages for BBC1 & ITV1, provided by DS:
BBC1: 21.3% (Sep '09: 22.4%) ITV1: 22.7% (22.9%) Only the second month this year that ITV1's beaten BBC1. Both channels were down compared to September last year, BBC1 more sharply than ITV1 but I think Strictly began a couple of weeks earlier last year. It was ITV1's 2nd best month of the year, behind June (25.1%). Overall 2010 Primetime Averages are: BBC1: 21.6% (Jan-Sep '09: 21.8%) ITV1: 21.0% (21.8%) BBC1's been more watched than ITV1 in primetime so far this year. Both channels are down compared to last year but BBC1's only slightly down (-1%), while ITV1's been sharper (-4%). I think BBC1 will probably win primetime (by this definition) this year because +0.6% is quite a big gap at this stage and their October looks strong as it is anyway. |

I was just wondering, as I catch bits of the increasingly desperate new-look Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (My mum watches it, I just happened to be in the room), does this programme now get less viewers than Tarrant's top turkey Man O Man?
(If it does then and )

Parker Spitzer got off to a fairly horrendous start for CNN, performing worse than Campbell Brown and the recently fired Rick Sanchez did in the 8PM ET slot. Quote:
The new CNN entry “Parker Spitzer” may not be the answer to that network’s chronic ratings problems in prime time – at least from the evidence of its first night on the air. http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.co...ediadecodernyt
The political discussion program, featuring the hosts Kathleen Parker, the conservative columnist, and Eliot Spitzer, the one-time governor of New York, fizzled badly in its initial outing Monday, attracting only 454,000 total viewers. That not only left CNN far behind its main rivals — Bill O’Reilly on Fox had 3.1 million on Fox News and Keith Olbermann had 1.1 million on MSNBC – but it also trailed Nancy Grace on the HLN channel, who had 468,000 viewers. Even worse for the new CNN program, it lost viewers from the show on just ahead of it, “John King USA,” which had 471,000 viewers. Perhaps more troubling for CNN, “Parker Spitzer” was down sharply from the show it replaced, “Rick’s List,” hosted by Rick Sanchez, who was recently ousted from CNN. And it even fell short of the show that had long occupied the 8 p.m. slot on CNN, with Campbell Brown. Ms. Brown dropped out of the competition in May when she conceded she was not competitive with Fox and MSNBC. But she had been averaging over 500,000 viewers. |

http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.co...ediadecodernyt Here's a ratings round-up with MSNBC & CNN measured vs FOX News. HLN has been included where it beat CNN. They might as well stick with it, IMO. Campbell Brown was falling at such a rate that she would be doing little better by now anyway. These things take time to find an audience and it's not so bad that they can't put up with it for a while. Although, when measured in its slot vs the performance of FOX News (as I have done below), it's the worst performing slot on CNN.
On another note lots of X Factor headlines in the papers tomorrow, suspect they will be delighted behind the scenes. The show really does strive on controversy, albeit in this case some ridiculous suggestion that Cheryl Cole is racist for not putting through a particular contestant. Incidentally the second XF live Saturday on October 16th show is also 2 and a half hours long, perhaps confirming it will be a top 16 (with the 4 wildcards) this year, rather than 12 or 13. |

To add to the BBC schedule posted last night, ITV's appears to have updated as well, as noted above by fodg09:
Saturday 16th October BBC One 17:30 - Strictly Come Dancing * earliest ever start 19:15 - Merlin 20:00 - The National Lottery: In It to Win It 20:50 - Casualty 21:40 - BBC News 22:00 - Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow * apologies, got these two the wrong way around in post last night 22:30 - Match of the Day ITV1 17:45 - All Star Family Fortunes 18:30 - You've Been Framed! 19:00 - Harry Hill's TV Burp 19:30 - The X Factor 22:00 - Piers Morgan's Life Stories 23:00 - ITV News I suspect that may still change slightly, but I think that's all but confirmed now. - Fiddles, Cheats and Scams on ITV1 at 8pm on 19th October - Traffic Cops on BBC1 at 9pm on 19th October - The Graham Norton Show (new series) starts at 10:35pm on 22nd October |

Another flop for Channel 4?:
Wedding House: 1.2m (4.9%) Might've been the worst rating in its slot among the terrestrials. Last week C4 had 1.9m in that slot. |

Oh dear. The only thing that's going right for them at the moment is The Inbetweeners, and that's not even on Channel 4 itself!
