Not that I think FlashForward was as big a flop here as everyone seemed to make out at the time, but they got behind it in a fairly massive way as if it was the next big thing with specially made idents and everything, only for it to not take off at all in the U.S. - and that, ultimately, is what decides the fate of these shows - so it's knowing what will work both here and in the U.S. that is the trick, and there won't be an abundance of shows that meet that criteria.”

Hawaii Five-0 would have been the perfect show for them but Bravo outbid them but with Bravo closing, a lot of shows could be up for grabs but I reckon Hawaii Five-0 will move to Sky1 unless Five makes a bid for it.

JJ Abrams seems to be hot property with Fringe and Undercovers and two shows he was developing, Alcatraz and Person of Interest have gone to FOX and CBS.

So it finally happened! I think that's the experiment over now. Would have thought the Monday show would do better without Masterchef but apparently not.

I know Australia's Got Talent does pretty well, how does Dancing With The Stars do over there? Idol is done, I think So You Think You Can Dance is finished as well?

Have they ever tried Hell's Kitchen?

And I see from Wikipedia that The Apprentice Australia sank as low as 627,000 in its one and only season.

(apologies for firing in the questions!)

Maybe they should've added a cookery round to The X Factor Australia. It's a shame, it seems to be a fresher show than the British version this year.

Can I ask - what's the Brownlow medal and would it be expected to record those kind of figures?

It's an award handed out to the fairiest and best AFL player in a given season. The winner is decided by votes cast by field umpires after each game. Coverage alternates between Seven and Ten each year as both cover the AFL.

This year's coverage rated roughly in line with the 1.04m that watched the 2009 Brownlow Medal coverage on Seven.

Not sure about Hell's Kitchen, but Dancing with the Stars is still reasonably successful averaging around 1.3-1.4m each week. However it peaked way back in 2006 when it averaged 2.2m for its fourth season.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia wasn't renewed for 2011 but Ten haven't ruled out resting it and bringing it back at a later date. I think the idea was to replace it with Don't Stop Believing next year, but it's all gone a bit quiet on that front. Cold feet after how it went in the UK?

So tough competition but considering the amount of money Seven have splashed out on The X Factor it really should've performed better.

Kate looking positively bored and unimpressed and not trying to hide it during her interview with Robin Williams just then on Daybreak.

X Factor wasn't actually shown in every sector last night because of Brownlow, it will be shown tonight instead. So that was the main reason for the dip in ratings - to be expected really.

I agree she should have been put out to grass a long time ago but is this relevant to a ratings thread ?

Really? The data for all the 5 cities is there.

Sydney Melbourne Brisbane Adelaide Perth Total
367,000 234,000 185,000 97,000 94,000 = 978,000

If you're talking about regional Australia then it wouldn't affect the overnight rating which uses the 5 cities data.

Pretty good start for Spooks. It aired on a Monday against ITV drama opposition two years ago, and managed 5.5m for its first episode, so last night's rating was a slight improvement on that. The rest of the series should stay at about the 5m mark, rather than dipping to the mid 4's, due to there being no BBC3 first-look this time. Bouquet of Barbed Wire did decently because I thought its rating would fall due to Spooks starting but it held flat week-on-week. Solid start for Paddy & Rory.

Morning. Bouquet of Barbed Wire had very good retention. Spooks was solid but I thought it might clear 6m myself.

Good rating for Rory and Paddy on Channel Five.

A real mixed bag for BBC Two last night it seems. Moments of brilliance (the always reliable University Challenge), but equally some disastrous moments. (nearly coming last in its slot for the Pope visit highlights)

On another unimpressive night for Channel 4, E4's Inbetweeners put in another fantastic performance.

BBC1's ordered a new Saturday night magic show:
Quote:
“BBC1 has ordered a new Saturday night gameshow that will see celebrities team up with magicians.

Commissioned by BBC controller of entertainment commissioning, Mark Linsey, The Magicians will be produced by Shine TV, and executive produced by joint managing director Karen Smith.

Linsey said: “The Magicians is a bold, big scale entertainment show that will bring the best of the latest crop of amazing illusionists to a wide audience for the first time, in a head-to-head contest.

“It is family viewing at its best and we’re delighted to be bringing it to the BBC and to Saturday nights.”

The Magicians will star three of the world’s most currently successful illusionists, across five weeks in early 2011. The three pairs will perform a number of tricks, with many large scale stunts set to be attempted.

There will be no judges or voting – the audience will decide which pair is victorious each week. The same three magicians will appear each week, and those who impress the audience most will win.

The pair that receive the least applause will be asked to close the show with “an uncomfortable, dangerous or impossible forfeit”.

However, viewers at home will be able to learn the tricks interactively, through a series of step-by-step guides.

The host and further format details will be revealed at a later date.”

It says that it begins early next year so I wonder if So You Think You Can Dance? has been delayed. But I suppose they could fit both in if there's no proper Lottery show and just the draws.

If it does move it will move to spring. With the future uncertain for BGT and X Factor, I think other channels will try to cash in especially with Sky giving Must Be The Music a second series despite awful ratings.

So then:

The Inbetweeners - Series 3
Episode 1 - 2.61m
Episode 2 - 2.49m

Source: Channel 4 Sales

Very little retention.

Yeah, especially with Andrew Lloyd Webber not coming back to the BBC (according to reports), there'll be a gap in the schedules for a Spring talent show.
