In the seventies television was available in almost every home, but VCRs were extremely rare and the only alternative was the radio, which at night tended to play brass band and pre war music, so the television was the only real form of entertainment. The only way you could see a good show again was wait until the summer for repeats.

I'm not sure the wildcard thing is working. The pace of last nights show was pretty good but there just seems to be too many acts. Little things like calling out the names in 2's tonight didn't really work but was necessary due to the huge numbers. And much of the 10.00-10.15pm segment last night was the recap! No wonder viewers drifted away. As I've said, I think a separate wildcard competition with just 1 going forward would have been far more interesting.

I agree. Too many cons outweigh the pros for me. I just don't see why they bothered. They pushed it as a big twist but the show doesn't really need a twist - indeed it was pretty underwhelming last night when they did announce it. There's enough going on without them needlessly tinkering with the format.
Cowell is a businessman, and has always said that he will quit when the show stops growing. Everybody, every year, says X Factor is at its peak. I think it's this year - there's a great variety of contestants like BGT '09, and the mess of X Factor 11 might destroy the show forever. |

How does everyone think The Only Way Is Essex is going to do?
Had a lot of promotion so really should be getting good numbers Plus should keep most of The Xtra Factor's audience as i think it aims to the same audience. On my Facebook wall at least 95% of comments are about it ( but i am young) A lot of them are about how cringy it is, but it's along the lines of "it's that bad , it's good" etc But that is sort of how it was suppose to be i think. Plus for me at least, a lot of the places featured on the show are only 5 mins down the road from me. So every few minutes, I'm like " oh it's ......"

Freeview has been experiencing some horrible signal issues tonight. See Twitter and the Technical subforum on DS, with lots of users reporting issues.
Here in Northants the signal went completely as the judges were casting their votes on The X Factor result! BBC One and Two were OK, but all the channels on multiplex 2 were affected including ITV1, Channel 4 and ITV2. |

A lot of comment about this on Twitter so you're one of the lucky ones. I'm relieved in a way because I thought it was a problem with our equipment.

Going to be interesting set of ratings for the multichannel's tomorrow. I wasn't sure at first but there does seem to be a bit of buzz around ITV 2's Essex show. Not exactly high class programming but it will appeal to ITV2's audience and I can see it being one of those shows people watch because of how bad it is.
As for Sky1 I think putting Thorne in such a tough slot will backfire and the reaction from fans of the books seems mixed. Would be lucky to pass 500k but as ever all the repeat/timeshift viewings will help the final figure. |

I think it depends where you are in the country as to whether or not your Freeview signal is bad tonight. But the Midlands area seems to be worst hit. See these charts:
http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html Looks like it will get better over the coming days. The worst will be over by tomorrow lunchtime. |

Sounds like a technical problem with the broadcast itself rather than a signal issue. Probably not related to this.
![]() The ITV2 was still on screen so thats how i knew! |

Someone had the exact same problem as us:
http://twitter.com/jennienew/status/26975801237 I wonder if it will cost ITV in the overnights? Worst possible time for it to go! But difficult to say how many might have been affected. |

SCD and TXF Breakdowns for last night:
BBC One (Inc. BBC HD) 17:45 - 6.69m (37.0%) 18:00 - 7.89m (38.7%) 18:15 - 8.77m (42.7%) 18:30 - 9.32m (43.4%) 18:45 - 9.58m (45.6%) 19:00 - 10.03m (43.6%) 19:15 - 10.27m (43.3%) 19:30 - 8.61m (35.4%) Unfortunately, I think its likely one of the Cowell shows will run in the pre-Christmas months in one format or another, which is going to be a real headache for Strictly and Doctor Who (much younger audience than Merlin). Quote:
ITV1 (Inc. ITV1HD)
19:30 - 7.94m (32.7%) 19:45 - 11.94m (47.7%) 20:00 - 12.78m (49.5%) 20:15 - 12.69m (49.5%) 20:30 - 12.57m (50.3%) 20:45 - 12.50m (49.4%) 21:00 - 12.34m (48.6%) 21:15 - 13.48m (51.7%) 21:30 - 12.19m (48.0%) 21:45 - 11.61m (46.1%) 22:00 - 10.54m (44.4%) Thanks to MattJ ---------------------------- Looks like viewers drifted off from TXF after 21:30, which is similar to what was happening last year I think. Maybe that's why ITV want next week's show to finish 15 mins earlier? I do think ITV have to get through all the performances in one show on the Saturday though, otherwise the phone lines can't open until the 2nd performance show has aired, which would lose ITV a stack of money and be unfair on the acts who may have been forgotten about by going on the first show. |

Sounds like a wild card, but instead of their underwhelming British reality offerings, why doesn't ITV2 buy up the Next Top Model franchise. If Katie Price is going to Living, this is the ideal swap as 1-2 million viewers would watch these well made reality shows with a happy ending.

Just looking at the breakdown and ads explain some of the fluctuations in Saturday nights X Factor - certainly the peaks.
The peak occurred in the only 15 minute period in which there were no adverts (3 consecutive performances from Katie, Mary and Nicolo). The second highest 15 minute period from 2000-2015 was where they took only 1 very short break (2 minutes). The final half hour also had 5 minute breaks where most of the earlier ones were 4 minutes but even accounting for that the ratings did seem to dip after 2130. Code:
1930 07.94 32.7 TV Burp, Adverts, Introductions 1945 11.94 47.7 Wildcard, Adverts & FYD 2000 12.78 49.5 Matt Cardle, Adverts, John Adeleye 2015 12.69 49.5 Rebecca Ferguson, Adverts, Storm Lee 2030 12.57 50.3 Storm Lee, Belle Amie, Competition & Ads 2045 12.50 49.4 Cher Lloyd, Adverts, Diva Fever 2100 12.34 48.6 Paije Richardson, Adverts, Katie Waissel 2115 13.48 51.7 Katie Waissel, Mary Byrne, Nicolo Festa 2130 12.19 48.0 Nicolo Festa, Adverts, One Direction, Wagner 2145 11.61 46.1 Wagner, Adverts, Aidan Grimshaw 2200 10.54 44.4 Treyc, Lines Open & Recaps |

I believe the 'officials' are only based on the original broadcast and time shifts of that. I also read somewhere that if the BARB panel viewer spins through the ads, it's not counted!! Perhaps someone could put me right on those points? |

The Only Way Is Essex, ITV2’s answer to C4’s Seven Days, is a ten-part reality series following the lives of a group of people living in Essex, filmed just days before transmission. The Lime production observes the likes of a wannabe model and a nightclub promoter, and drew an audience of 917,900 (5.2%), benefiting from a strong lead in from The Xtra Factor, and a Performance Index figure of 205.4.
