Would anyone other than the usual viewer care though if Neighbours is reaching 6000 episodes? Quote:
C4 didn't need to change Saturdays. The movies they started recently like Die Hard etc were doing great business for them.
Putting new programming there is just a waste, especially stuff with potential like Pillars of the Earth. ITV1 and BBC One will always dominate that night, especially this time of year, so C4 and Five are better off sticking to movies and re-runs, however unimaginative that may appear. Even BBC Two virtually shuts up shop on a Saturday. Instead it's one and only airing all week is against the most popular show on TV. |

Big ratings for CNN in the U.S last night, actually beating FOX News in the 11pm ET hour. Quote:
CNN: 3.998 million total viewers / 1.422M A25-54 http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/...-rescue_b35113
FNC: 3.468 million total viewers / 1.046M A25-54 MSNBC: 1.083 million total viewers / 279K A25-54 |

More reality TV changes at ABC. Secret Millionaire, which had been planned for Fridays, is being replaced by Supernanny. It's believed that Secret Millionaire is being held over for a proper launch midseason.
CBS have finalised the on-screen talent for Live To Dance (previously Got To Dance). Judges: Paula Abdul (Head Judge & Executive Producer) Kimberley Wyatt (Ex Pussycat Doll & Got To Dance judge) Travis Payne (Choreographer for Michael Jackson) Host: Andrew Gunsberg (Host of Australian Idol) http://deadline.com/ |

Good night for BBC1, with EastEnders performing especially well. Surely they could rest Holby City for at least one week between series??? Traffic Cops did reasonably as filler. The football performed about as expected considering the direness of the match and the clash with EastEnders for the first half hour.

Yeah, they burned off Scrubs & Better Off Ted there last year. I suppose they could try that with the 2 new ones at 9pm.
No Ordinary Family won't repeat well so that could take a midseason break for the Wipeout winter run. Monday: The Bachelor/DWTS & Castle Tuesday (1): Wipeout, Mr Sunshine & Happy Endings, Detroit 1-8-7 Tuesday (2): No Ordinary Family, DWTS Results, Brothers & Sisters Wednesday: Comedy Block, Private Practice Thursday: V, Grey's Anatomy, Off The Map Sunday: Reality, Desperate Housewives, Body of Proof CBS have had the lions share of success this season - because they were ambitious, and went after days and slots that were traditionally weaker for them. I saw interesting stats once about the total viewer 'reach' of the networks (ie. people who watched 5 minutes or more a week or whatever). On that basis, CNN actually matches - if not exceeds the others - it's just that their viewers simply dip in according to the news agenda. On Fox and MSNBC you have a smaller band of loyal fans who tune in for the shows each day. I'll try to dig them up from somewhere... EDIT: Yep, found this out of a CNN Press Release for Q1 of this year: Quote:
CNN REACH http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/...ear-ago_b24991On an average monthly basis for Q1 2010, CNN again topped the competition with a reach of 104 million, ahead of FNC (94 million), MSNBC (90.2 million) and HLN (88.3 million). In March, CNN remained ahead of all cable news competition in reach with 93.2 million viewers, followed by FNC (87.5 million), HLN (80.8 million) and MSNBC (78.7 million). Though I believe MSNBC began to top them in reach of 25-54 viewers over the summer. |

Solid rating for England - which was an extremely poor game.
The "poor game" thing is a red herring. It's our national side playing an important fixture, and indeed, the longer it went on at 0-0, arguably the more compelling it became because one goal either way could have been so crucial. The Wembley crowd didn't start trooping out until about the 85th minute, and the ITV audience will have done the same. Quote:
Basically a comfortable win for BBC News, even more impressive when you consider the fact it was all simulcast on BBC One & BBC Two from 11:40pm onwards.
Could Daybreak suffer a new humiliation, I wonder...? |

No, it was a dismal rating. 6m for an England qualifier, played entirely in the hours of darkness, on a cool October night? That's rubbish, and not really what ITV paid a hundred and odd million £s for.

During the football last night, Daybreak had a trailer saying they were going to cover the rescue in depth. If the ratings don't at increase at least in line with Breakfast's increase it'll be very poor for ITV1 IMO.
Just looking at NBCs ratings, it does not appear to be going well. Chase, 4 episodes - 4.92, down from 7.94 The Event, 4 episodes - 6.50 down from 11.19 LOLA, 2 episodes - 8.26 down from 10.64 Undercover, 3 episodes - 6.38 down from 8.57 Outsourced, 3 episodes - 5.23 down from 7.44 Outlaw - Axed ok so maybe its too early to judge LOLA, but there are no break out hits. Looks like another year when new shows will continue as NBC has little better to replace them, some even getting a 2nd series for that reason. |

New crime drama ordered by ITV: Quote:
ITV is to bolster its slate of new detectives by turning Sophie Hannah’s crime novel The Point Of Rescue into a two-part drama, featuring a male and female investigative double act. There's another 3 novels in the Zailer/Waterhouse series, so it could be recommissioned.Hat Trick Productions has been commissioned to produce the 2 x 60-minute Point Of Rescue (working title), which will sit alongside the likes of Vera, DCI Banks and The Suspicions Of Mr Whicher. The series will go into production on location in Buckinghamshire this month and stars Olivia Williams as DS Charlie Zailer and Darren Boyd as DC Simon Waterhouse in a story that explores issues of strong women in peril. The detectives are divided over the mysterious death of Geraldine Bretherick and her five-year-old daughter, and harbour concerns over her husband Mark’s alibi. He had an affair months previously with another character, Sally Thorne, who feels compelled to contact him again. Point Of Rescue was commissioned by ITV director of drama commissioning Laura Mackie and controller of drama commissioning Sally Haynes. It will be executive produced by Hat Trick’s Mark Redhead, directed by Charles Martin (Being Human, Married Single Other) and distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide. It follows ITV’s agreement with Hat Trick in 2008 to develop one of Hannah’s trilogy of novels featuring Zailer and Boyd. ITV is close to adding to the commission with re-orders of some of its new crime series. It is understood that a recommission for Left Bank Picture’s DCI Banks is firmly on the cards after the two-part drama, starring Stephen Tompkinson, averaged 5.7 million (23%) viewers. Hat Trick’s other ITV detective drama, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, has also been earmarked as a potential franchise, according to director James Hawes. Film 2010 with Claudia Winkleman had 1.1m (9.1%).
That's low for the slot average, which is usually near the 2m mark. |

Film 2010 with Claudia Winkleman,
The show now airs live in an extended 40minute slot. An audience of 1.1m (9.1%) watched the BBC Production, providing a Performance Index figure of 88.8, up on the previous series average of 747,400, shown earlier this year. http://www.attentional.com/attentional_blog/blogs/ |

No boost whatsoever for Daybreak, all the casual viewers went to the Beeb (as usual). Good rating for The Apprentice, up from last week and higher than the second episode rating from last year. That's more like it after last week's relatively underwhelming (IMO) rating. Midsomer Murders held up pretty well consdiering the competition, with YBF! right before it benefitting from being sandwiched between two strong rated programmes. Looks like Grand Designs is being hurt the most out of the three-way clash against Apprentice/Midsomer. It's still a respectable rating but not the ~3.5m it's capable of getting. Both MasterChef Professionals and Cowboy Builders are rating brilliantly for their respective channels. |

Strong day for BBC1 with Breakfast boosted and the Apprentice No1 show of the day. Waterloo Road seems to have stabilised, albeit slightly lower than the last series-which isn't surprising considering the cast change.
Pretty strong for ITV1 aswell in primetime-YBF higher than I thought even though there was weaker competition. Midsomer was always going to be lower than last week without the Emmerdale lead in and up against TA it's doing good business and will be good for a repeat rating of ~4m. Another 8pm flop for CH4? I think so. A 6% share isn't really good enough for that slot and I can't see 'Food' returning. Grand Designs obviously dented by TA, which is a shame, because it's the only decent rating show on CH4 atm. Quite shocking that The Inbetweeners will probably be the top rated show on the 4 network this week ![]() Pretty low again for the FIVE soaps, but Cowboy Builders continues to perform excellently and boost the often weak Wednesdays. |

Daybreak and GMTV before it always have promos in prime time advertising what is on the show tomorrow. It's nothing special.

Yesterday's news channel ratings:

Between 6-8:30am, BBC News Channel averaged 235,000 (7.3%). This was up 182% from the previous day's average of 83,000 (2.7%) in the same time period. --- Also one other multichannel rating: The Only Way is Essex (ITV2): 484k (2.43%).
