I agree - can't see the new Idol panel really working. I believe though they're locked into a three year deal and with TXF in Fall 2011, the Idol franchise is certainly safe for 2011/12, but wonder if Fox would cut their losses and the 2013 series should TXF take off, moving the show to that slot - or perhaps push Idol out of it's traditional slot and burn off the final series either in the fall or summer.

Well, ratings will get so low that people may start to tune in to find out why people arent tuning-so to speak
![]() The thing is with this kind of happening is that, once the press latch onto a fact and associate it with a programme the programme becomes a byword for that fact-lack of viewers = Daybreak(many jokes ensue). And ofcourse this is magnifyed many times by the involvement of Chiles and Bleakley between whom the press also tell us, there is no chemistry. It is just an unhappy ship. I also read today that Danny Cohen has made a new Saturday night entertainment show for BBC1 a top priority "to knock X Factor off its perch" apparently. There is no doubt he is setting his sights high ![]() Anyway...oh dear oh dear oh dear for Daybreak. They can throw as many celebrities at the programme as they want but it doesn't seem to help the show at all. It already has a bad image and I cannot think what will turn the tide, bar getting Ant and Dec to present with Simon Cowell judging something. It really seems to be a bad sitaution. Despite this, I cannot see them bringing GMTV back - that'd be admitting defeat. As for primetime - a good two showings from Coronation Street considering the start to the week it had. Emmerdale's still performing well and EastEnders has had a very good week. Paul O'Grady is doing as well as could be expected and I cannot think of much else which'd perform like that opposite New Tricks. New Tricks itself is doing well for a Friday night but could do so much better on a Monday or Thursday. |

![]() What FOX might benefit from is Idol falling a bit, X Factor being a hit (~4.5) and keeping both on the air but negotiating more favourable deals with Simon Fuller or whoever ends up owning American Idol. |

The Financial Times have done a little piece on the Cowell/Fuller/Murdoch triangle. Most of it focusses on the peculiar relationship and the secrecy which surrounds it but they also look at the effect of the Cowell/Fuller split on FOX broadcast network;
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/3b1653a0-d...44feabdc0.html It's quite an unusual situation that FOX find them in. While they aren't really paying as much as they paid Cowell (J'Lo is on $12m according to Deadline - Cowell took home $36m), they do seem to be giving it a real push and allowing to push into "X Factor territory". They've got Jimmy Iovine "mentoring" the acts, they've lowered the age limit to 16 and are hinting at more on stage movement from the contestants (whether that means full blown choreography, I'm not sure). And then there's the risk that this time next year, FOX have a weakened American Idol and X Factor bombs. I just can't see XF reaching the kind of ratings that Idol had last season - nothing will ever come close again with the way US TV is. |

They should have waited until January to start The Mentalist if they wanted to keep the Friday slot (which works well for it). Launching it against New Tricks was never going to work well and with The Event launching against it next week and I'm A Celebrity and Children In Need just around the corner starting it last night seems utterly stupid, especially as it means it'll probably have to take a break at some point early next year where it would be getting 2m+. Shame as I watched it for the first time in ages last night and enjoyed it.

Easier said than done in some cases. Chiles is fine, as he's got all the football to present. Bleakley transferred with far fewer concrete jobs lined up. Without Daybreak, where does she go? They can't pluck a successful entertainment format out of nowhere for her and there's going to be some resistance if she's parachuted into a current one.

Cat Deeley managed it. Dermot's plain non-Geordie accent helps!

I always wondered how she got her SYTYCD gig.
Also, a thread on the XF forum says BGT is advertising for auditions and the prize of performing at next years RVP. ApplauseStore also have BGT 2011 auditions "coming soon". |

If American Idol's going to move into X Factor territory then they may as well have forgot about buying The X factor and just kept a rebranded American Idol. As it is, they could isolate American Idol viewers with the new look, who won't take to The X Factor either because that is the image the show already has.
The problem is - Cowell wanted to launch XF (he has much more control over that format) and it would have been a disaster for Fox if that had happened on another network. No-one knows how Idol will do without Simon - it would be too big a risk to let him walk away, entirely. Therefore, they give him what he wants. |

The multi-million dollar deals might be a factor too. Quote:
Didn't Holly Willoughby express recently that she wasn't particularly enjoying her role on This Morning and was missing X Factor? Any chance Holly could get the main X Factor gig if Dermot leaves for the US version, with Christine joining Phil on This Morning?

In a funny way, I'm not entirely sure Fox would have wanted to buy The X Factor. In fact, I reckon their personal choice would have simply been for things to stay as they were and Simon sign up for Idol again.
It's definitely not ideal for FOX. September next year is huge for them because they've got the big budget Terra Nova (from Steven Spielberg) as well which has been given an unusually long time to produce (it was originally due in January 2011 but put back to September). |

I see Christine Bleakley made an appearance on Harry Hill to advertise Daybreak. Desperate and Cringeworthy.

I hope Life Stories does well tonight. When i heard it was Russell Watson, i thought i'd probably give it a miss - but i am so glad i watched it. Not a huge fan of Piers but that is one of the best interviews i've seen in a few years. Such an emotional rollercoaster watching Russell talk about his life. Blooming brilliant.

isnt that what the Xtra Factor is for?
The fired candidates on Apprentice usually appear on Breakfast the next morning too... not sure if the same thing happens with Strictly or not. |

She was just on it. Dermot did a Voiceover, not to promote XF, just because. I see Ann Widicome danced at 1928 tonight. Simply coincidence XF started at 1930 I'm sure! I would have done the same. |

The Mentalist's ratings aren't bad considering it was up against New Tricks and the two shows share an audience, it will timeshift very well though but I think they should have waited until January or at least until NT finished. I don't think it'll be affected by The Event though.

It was very cringey. There was just no need for it and she literally appeared and said ''Hello and welcome to Daybreak with me Christine Bleakley''...blatant shameful advertising. But at least we know what her new exciting ITV project is..the masked lady on 'The Cube'
