I've always wondered this, I don't think they've had anyone British before. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers cast you simply for the gimmick of you being British.

I was intent on applying, I downloaded the application form but then read you've to be a US citizen!

Hopefully Channel 5 will bring back Big Bro UK but change it to the US format! I'd defo apply to that.

I'd love to apply, but yes, you have to be a US citizen. I even messaged Erika Landin on Facebook before to see if there was any chance of them changing this ruling, but unfortunately there wasn't it. Shame, because I've LOVE to play BBUS.

I could, but would be a bit to worried about being eaten alive in there. I'm far to paranoid for that, though I'd probably make good car crash TV

Tbh I think it wouldn't make a difference, most of the cast are recruited anyway.

had a feeling you had to be a US Citizen

i would love to to do the US version just cause it looks better then ours, at least you dont have to worry the public will want you out cause you just have to keep the HM on side .

i think the UK version should take/try the American format for one year you know.

I know we can't apply, but here's the form

I like "Have you ever had a restraining order issued against you?"

Im thinking answering "yes" is exactly what got Rachel into this years show.

I like Erika, she sorted me out a discount once at the hotel where her brothed works/worked in LA.

She seemed nice to me.

As for BB USA, do you really have to be a US Citizen, would having a green card not be enough?

It's the same rules for all of the USA reality shows. The Englishman who won The Apprentice was not an American Citizen as far as I know, but he had a green card as he lived/worked in the USA.

Is Mark Burnett himself even a US Citizen?

It does clearly state US Citizens only though!

I think the problem isn't so much a Visa, that can be sorted quite easily, after all you only need it for 3 months, but there are 2 main isuses:

1) criminal background check
Not exactly easy for a US company, possibly not a problem in the UK, but try and do a check on someone from Central African Republic? If they open it for Canada/UK, they would have to open it for anyone really.

2) Marketing after the show finishes. Let's assume you win, and then you scamper back to the UK. It doesn't allow all those advertisers to use you for their marketing stuff, you won't be falling drunk out of a bar in NYC and provide stories for the American version of "Hello", invitations to talk shows and interviews will be a nightmare (compared to a US candidate)

I am guessing the second one is the main problem..

I can't see the second one being a problem. There isn't the tabloid interest in Big Brother in America, and if there is its usually negative and CBS could do without it.

The second pdf link is the eligibility requirements.

You must be a US citizen and you must reside in the US. Same for Survivor and also Amazing Race.

Actually I thought it was because of Gambling Taxation laws within California (Where CBS is located). Apparently BBUSA, Survivor and Amazing Race fall under those laws and since CBS is within California they have to comply, having any non-resident would cause a lot more paperwork and timing issues and unless theres a VERY good reason (Like a celebrity or a UK contestant whos already proven themselves) its unlikly CBS would go the extra mile.

As far as im aware this is why Richard Hatch got into trouble after the first Survivor, because of California Gambling Laws.

Also as far as other shows are, Fox is based within california so thier shows would be out of the question. The CW Network is owned by CBS so thats out too.

Meanwhile ABC is based within New York as is NBC, MTV, Oxygen, MyNetwork. This means shows like 'Real World', 'Apprentice', 'Biggest Loser', 'Bad Girls Club' and others can afford to be a lot more open with casting.

Id LOVE there to be a UK version with US rules but sadly bosses would point right to the attempt at 'Survivor' and rule it out (despite the fact ITV really didnt know how to market a reality show at that point)
