Have to say, when I first heard there was a follow up, I thought 'please mariah just leave it'. But seeing the artwork and the songs on it, sounds like it will be good!

Deffo getting it. Loved part 1-all those years ago!

To be honest i do not like the album cover, it is very festive but it does look a bit cheap and she looks quite photoshopped.

That Mariah sure has a knack for class. Not tacky at all.

In all seriousness though, this might be a good idea. There doesn't seem to really be a market for popstars doing gimmicky seasonal albums anymore, though. Ballads are not en vogue right now.

Guess it just depends on how her voice holds up. By it's very nature this album will compared to the last, and if she doesn't deliver then I think a lot of people will dismiss her for good. She can't hide behind the heavy R&B production here. If her voice is truly walking out the door, the world will know.

I feel like re-doing All I Want For Christmas' is a baaad move, first and foremost.

PHOTOSHOP! Mariah is NOT that skinny these days!

The title is ridiculous and I love it.

Awful cover. As people have said that isn't her body.

What has she re-recorded 'All I want for Christmas' for?

She does'nt need to. The song has become a christmas classic and has a life of its own.

Anyway, I think some the comments posted on the link site are terrible. There is no need to be so nasty.

All this comparing to the early 90s when she is her prime-hello, that was 20 years ago almost.

And yes, if she was soooo over, she would'nt still have a record contract.

I love Mariah and look forward to hearing the album. Not sure about some of the song choices though and wish she hadn't re-recorded All I Want For Christmas as she sang it absolutely perfectly first time around, that her new vocal performance surely won't come anywhere near the same standard. They'll probably autotune it like crazy, which will just sound horrible!

I know her voice is no longer at it's peak but I still think the beautiful quality and tone of her voice is second to none.

I agree with that also. Mariah's voice, style, image etc etc will change (who's doesn't?).

And RE the re-record of 'AIWFCIY'- who knows til' we hear it? She re-recorded 'hero' in 2008 (i think) and it still sounded pretty much the same and as good so i wouldn't worry. It was her own song afterall!

Poor Mariah. When has a Christmas album ever rejuvenated someone's career? They are usually just add-ons and even if it is a mild success, it won't prove she's relevant at all. She will still struggle when she releases her next proper album.

Can't knock her for effort though. She is continuously making music and trying to get back on top.

^^ Come on Hero did not sound the same! That's insulting to how great the original was.

I'm looking forward to the album because she will have to sing properly, not relying on hip-hop when her other talents let her down, hopefully it won't be a faux-urban mess.

She's got back on top before she can do it again if she really wants to/ tries hard. The Christmas album is not an attempt to get back on top. She has been talking about doing a christmas album for years. Mariah is very festive and really likes Christmas a lot! so this is something that she is really passionate about. And as for ad-ons her last christmas album sold in excess of 16 million records world wide and is one of the best selling christmas albums of all time.

I love Mariah, collected every album including the christmass one but I wont be buying it.
Her voice isn't like it was. I think she needs to pack it in now and just let everyone enjoy the clasics she's given us.

That's an exception though, not the norm. Otherwise every artist would be bringing out Christmas albums every year.

She's worked with the usual collaborators - Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox, Big Jim Wright and Randy Jackson (the latter 2 often do a lot of more organic live-sounding songs with her, which is a very good thing IMO).

But I'm very interested in her stuff with Marc Shaiman indeed. And reports are saying it's very much an Adult Contemporary album in the vein of her first one: lots of choirs or orchestras, no hip hop or rappers, no tacky or bad R&B-lite versions of Christmas carols.

I actually think Mariah actually does Gospel very well, like on her first Christmas album and songs like Fly Like a Bird, My Saving Grace, etc. So I'm really hoping for songs like that.

The last time she brought one out was 16 years ago. Now is as good as any time to bring out another one.

I think Mariah will take this album seriously as she loves Xmas. Big Jim wright and Mariah always make good music together so im excited for this.

So festive and cute I absolutely love it. I'm so excited for this album, the producers are great, her voice shines on gospel and live songs, her voice is in the best shape it's been in years plus she is the Queen of Christmas! she can't go wrong.

I'm sure she will take it seriously but I just can't see it having huge success. Will her single even get airplay? Radio tends to just play old Christmas songs these days with new ones rarely getting a look-in.

It probably wont be that commercially successful as these are different times to 1994, when she released the first one. I think she needs to leave Island Def Jam if she wants to have a really succesful album again.

I hope she does it traditionally, rather than doing an awful generic cheap r&b versions of songs. Hopefully it will be good, she really does excel at gospel orientated music.

When I think of Mariah Carey and Christmas, this is the only thing I think of :
