How many companions waited for the Doctor, and waited and waited?

The giant bats were in the BBC Pertwee audio "The Paradise of Death". It's not very good even though it was written by Barry Letts.

I love the image this conjures up of Susan sitting on a rock, waiting... and rubbing her ankle...

Did this ever get resolved at all? Or was she literally left waiting, and consequently, still is? I hope she is, sincerely...

Perhaps it's been addressed in an Audiopresentation? Anyone know?

. Thanks for that. I forgot about Dimensions in Time, which I have seen, althoughI haven't listened to the audios or read the novel. Are they any good?

Spoiler
and more importantly are they canon

I wonder if people took his views on children more seriously than he intended?

I had a bad half hour on here because I made a remark about kids being awful and people were up in arms about it. I was kidding. (Though they are).

And ting advised me that I should have locked mine in the cellar to watch DW in peace, but I didn't assume he meant it, I just said he'd missed his vocation as a child psychologist.

As for music, if you don't appreciate it, you don't. I don't appreciate football, for instance.

I display excessive amounts of affection for lots of things, including DW.

Now I'm sticking up for ting again. ”

Oh so you didn't refer to giant bats, because of PD caves.

There is nothing wrong with sticking up for someone, Granny.

Can I ask you a serious question? Do you know all these facts just like that? Have you ever thought about joining Mastermind?

I remember that one! The time I wasted at work reading all those allegories (I don't think I posted anything on it, though...)

I do remember the culprit now, and thankfully I was under his radar.

Please keep posting....I'm enjoying seeing how many alternatives to audiobook you can come up with. Well done so far

It is if you want to be... It's most certainly not in mine, but that's your choice...

Feels like a nicer place already...

"The Shadow in the Glass" is rather good but "The Spectre of Lanyon Moor" is okay-ish (it was originally written for Tom Baker).

Simple - I've spent my life reading books and magazines about the Doctor.

I think, without wishing to offend anyone here, that this forum isn't as full of Doctor Who obsessives as others. There are a lot who love the series and a lot who are keen to find out more but not everyone is as unhealthily (?) obssessed as I am.

Remember, in the Kingdom of the Blind, the One-Eyed are King. Go to Gallifrey Base and people like me are ten-a penny.

**feels she should come up with an argument now**

No I'm kidding, I really couldn't join the debate on canon or non-canon, until 3 months ago I didn't even know what the term meant.

I agree (sorry) there is a different atmosphere here today, it's probably because we had the equinox.

Why, thankyou, Granny...

I'd still like to know what happened to Susan, though. I was hoping The Doctor would have dropped her off at RADA for some acting lessons...

Perhaps I should write an Audioperformance-piece about it...

She was in the Eighth Doctor novel "Legacy of the Daleks" and the BF Audio "An Earthly Child" (she's appeared in a lot of books and audios but all, from what I remember, were pre-Dalek Invasion). Neither are much to write home about, in my humble.

There is nothing wrong with being obsessed about it, but I always got the feeling from you that you accepted us less obsessives and you always have been very generious when you passed on your knowledge. I think DS doesn't necessarily attract pure Doctor Who fans, but people who enjoy watching a variety of different things (even uncool things).

I think the real beauty of this forum is that you can learn from other people, and maybe that some more obsessive people get some insight about the show from less obsessive people . I don't mind if people correct me, what I don't like is when this correction becomes the argument in itself.

I've got a login for Gallifrey Base, but I have never posted there and I don't understand the workings of it. Looking at my inferior knowledge of Doctor Who, I probably never will post there.

I agree again, lach and I was pleased to read your last paragraph because I've done the same. I registered on GB but couldn't make head or tail of it so came on here instead Which I'm very glad about as GB doesn't sound like much fun at all.

I'm sure it's a lovely place, but I do think you need to have really good knowledge to be on there, which I don't have (they would wipe the floor with me, and send me back from where I came from). I honestly love Doctor Who, and I always admire people who have a lot of knowledge about it (particularly if they are happy to share it in a friendly and non-threatening manner). I'm just not one of them.

I'm not a fan of John Peel's Doctor Who novels so I only read "Legacy of the Daleks" because I was interested to see what happened to Susan. I agree with you it's nothing much to write home about, although I do like the little twist at the end attempting to explain the events leading into the Fourth Doctor TV story "The Deadly Assassin" (i.e. Delgado's Master becoming horribly disfigured and marooned on the Planet Tersarus, then telepathically summoning Chancellor Goth to rescue him).

I have not heard the BF Audio "An Earthly Child". Presumably, the details of Susan's life on 22nd Century Earth depicted in this story contradict those depicted in "Legacy of the Daleks"?

Yes, I like reading posts from people who just enjoy the series and don't care about the minutiae. I also like reading posts from people who have "the knowledge" but are aware of balance. If we all like Doctor Who, then I'm happy. It's a great show. We don't all like the same aspects of it but that's life.

GB is a bit more hard-core than this forum but it's really not that bad. Mind you, you get the same posts there as you do here - "what is the "Scottish" Agenda?, etc. - but it's more compartmentalised. Audios, for example, are relegated to their own section.

Quite right, too.

I can't remember all the details of Legacy (doesn't Susan go off time-travelling?) but the Campbells don't have any kids in the novel... you can take a wild guess at who "An Earthly Child" might be so, yes, it contradicts. Most off the spin-offs do - either the TV series or each other - so it's not a huge problem unless you take things a little too seriously.

Years since I read it, but yes I think she does go off time travelling (in the Master's Tardis, I believe).

I thought the audio might contradict the novel. I would like to think of the spin-offs as canon as I enjoyed so many of them, but trying to come with explanations for and solutions to all the continuity contradictions is not a good way to keep one's sanity!

Actually my original post should have read: "I think the real beauty of this forum is that you can learn from other more knowledgeable (or obsessive) people. Obsession only worries me when it becomes patronising.

They have a Scottish Agenda thread over there. Maybe I should post over there

Unbelievably, they're all relegated to the same sub-forum. It's ridiculous. Audiobooks are mixed up with audioplays. It's a living nightmare.

I also think of them as the c-word (as I'm sure many do) but I don't worry about how they all fit in. I'm unlikely to ever re-read or listen to the majority of them again (unless Steven Moffat makes me sit some kind of exam) so I let them "sleep in my mind".

One appeared a while after the one on this forum but it was far less controversial, nowhere near as hard-hitting and quickly fizzled into nothing.

Well you need real professionals to maintain such a high level of intellectual incongruity.

Well I can see my answers now: the dr was accompanied by someone whose name I don't quite remember and who was in the episode with those thingies.
