Thank you, Eaglestriker, what a lovely thing to say

I've had a few good times with ting - I can't remember how the subject came up, but there was a thread where we described what we looked like - I said I looked like Arwen Evenstar, and he said he looked like Michael Praed, in the Robin Hood days. ( I assume his claim was as accurate as mine.) It was so funny.

Yes, it was so frustrating, you just wanted him to be like that all the time but he wasn't!!!!!

To be honest, there are some aspects of Tony that need defending. If you talked to him on his level and agreed with him, he was quite witty and made a good conversation. It's when you didn't agree him that problems arose, especially with RTD, he even went so far as contradicting himself one night!!!

He certainly is a controversial person and the fact we're all talking about him proves it. ”

Oh yeah, I've agreed with him on occasions, mainly on subjects regarding Old Who and this year's series.

We love a bit of controversy on here, I think. In small doses, I might add.

Again, his closed-mindedness was what grated me more than anything. If he would just analyse all sides of an argument, a lot of the replies towards him wouldn't have been so coarse.

But he wasn't all bad!

Yes, it was very much a case of what he said was law and that was it, no room for negotiation.

And yes, a bit too much controversy isn't good for us!!!!

You know that tingramretro hasn't been banned or anything, don't you?

He took a hissy fit yesterday because other forum members had the audacity to disagree with him. I don't think Elton John's going to write a tribute song quite yet.

I'm glad that got cleared up before I went to bed

I was a bit worried about Eaglestriker there for a while.

Don't worry, Eaglestriker, you aren't as stubborn and dogmatic as ting, not by a long way!

Eaglestriker's okay, just a misunderstanding!!!

Haven't had a chance to flick through this thread yet. What actually started this Tony thing?

Why don't you come to the Inn instead. Have a drink there, you might even become the new landlady. We are all waiting for the thread split.

Well it's okay to have an opinion isn't it, as long as long as you respect others as well, some just don't see it that way!!!

hands Granny a large snifter

Sip that slowly.

I know full well that everyone's entitled to enjoy the posts of whoever they like but the irony is that the member being celebrated wouldn't agree. I've read a lot of very offensive comments of his and I don't find him in any way cute or cuddly. This forum has had two particularly unpleasant members this year (I'm hoping to be the third) and tingramretro found a kindred spirit in both of them. One took great delight in being craftily homophobic and the other was delightfully misogynistic.

The thread was supposed to be about companions, then went on to discuss companions in spin-offs, then an argument started about which spin offs were canon, with a side issue of whether the correct term was audiobook or audioplay.

I dont know if anyone posting on the thread went to bed on Wednesday night, but they were still at it on Thursday morning, in spite of an heroic effort by JohnBoy to get the thread back on track, which failed, they were at it all day yesterday and, when ting found no one was convinced by his arguments he stormed off saying he'd finished with the forum for good.

That's it. Daft, really.

PS Thanks for the drink, outside How did you know I drank whisky and ginger?

And if you're trying to be unpleasant, you're failing badly. You'll have to try a lot harder.

How did I know? I read your mind, of course.

It didn't take me long.

Failing badly, eh? I know that you're reeling after reading my above comment so eat those words!

Ha! It took ages to think of something to say and in the end I came out with some rubbish about poor little K-9. Oh well!

I hope he doesn't. I am new here so it is not really my place, but looking from the outside with fresh eyes and everything I have to say, good riddance.

I should explain why. This whole thread is about him, in fact a lot of the recent threads have become about him and his diva hissy fit or his identity and his parish council and him wanting fights in Ipswich. I am new, and I know all of that already. This forum is not about one person, it is about all of us and all our views on Doctor Who (and Torchwood obviously) (oh and Sarah Jane but thats not official so meh...)

I should not be scared to post as a newbie, I don't even feel new any more because I ended up in conversation with him and aged 5 years and everyone saw my name again and again.

This forum should not be about bowing down to the opinions of one. He doesn't just make his opinion known, he remakes it time and time again so that all other opinions seem invalid by default. That is unfair and not in the spirit of the forum. Whether people like him or hate him, it always seems to come down to him and other people and their voices get sidelined. And its a damn shame because those voices are interesting. So speak up and forget him, he deserves no more time.

Sorry, just the opinion of a newbie with fresh eyes.

Well said, that man! Best post of the whole bloody forum! I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said "it is better to be talked about than not talked about", and I'm sure Tony is loving this! Have no doubt he'll be back and around until the next strop, but in the meantime, let's just forget about him...

I think Tony knows so much about Who that he is invaluable. I tend to agree with a lot he says though not maybe with the same vehemence. Like many others I'm more 'live and let live' but some others are also sure they're right and everyone else is wrong so it can get a bit one-sided and needs balance. It's definitely not the same without him (even if only for a while).

Except he's not invaluable. The interweb can also furnish you with any answers you need, and the internet is not vitriolic, pig-headed or downright rude.
