Update Instructions

- Power OFF the product using the rear ON/OFF switch
- Download the software and save on a USB Pen*
- Make sure the filename is hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf
- Insert the USB Pen to the front or rear USB port on the product
- Power ON the product using the rear ON/OFF switch
- The download should start and the download progress should appear on the TV set; allow 5 minutes for the update to complete.
- When the update is complete End will appear on the front display, "Download Successful will appear on the TV.
- Remove USB Pen and press standby

Warning: During the update process DO NOT power off the product.

Note: USB Pen must be formatted in FAT32
The software must be on the root directory of the USB Pen (i.e. not save in a folder)
If the update does not start then please make sure the filename is correct (hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf)
Not all USB Pens will be recognised, try a different USB Pen.

I was badly affected by the HDMI problem and this has fixed it for me.

NB Install pauses at 85% during install but will continue after a couple of minutes. Same again at 98%.

And thanks to you for informing us of this update. Downloaded it today without problem. "Find" now working fine. Thanks for the notes to accompany the installation. Much appreciated.

Works great. EPG faster to use and having the find feature working is great.

Just one question. What was the issue with the orange standby ring light? I don't have an issue just would like to know what the problem was.

Thanks for the headsup on the new firmware - I experienced both problems with the Find feature and the garbled titles and was very pleased to find these are fixed.
The update went very smoothly and I only found one slight omission from the instructions. After the update completes you are instructed to press the standby button - it would be helpful if it was made clear that this is the one on the box itself, not on the remote.

Great! updated first time, even better I swapped HDMI leads (I've just re-connected everything after having some plastering done) and the improvement in the HD picture is amazing.
I was one those who thought that all HDMI leads were the same, now I know differently.
(Synn lead, bought from Play.com, I can't remember what it cost, certainly less than a tenner).

HDMI cables can not affect the picture quality, a cheap cable if it works will be identical to an expensive one, see info http://www.avforums.com/forums/hdmi-...ust-facts.html.

So something else has happened, perhaps prior to the update your box was incorrectly setting the HDMI resolution to standard definition, and the update fixed this issue giving you full HD.

Hi, i updated the latest beta via usb, what i would like to know is, is it possible to go back to old settings, i'm on emley moor and i've lost all HD channels.

You should not have lost the HD channels.

Are they still there in the EPG and channel list? If yes, are you sure you haven't disturbed cables if reaching around to use the rear USB key?

Have you tried a rescan of channels, note this will erase all your scheduled recordings so you will need to make a not of them then add them back.

I'm also on Emley Moor with the same BETA firmware and HD channels are working great.

As Phil said it should make no difference, but you can try if you want. Don't know if load or not though.

Just updated firmware - much quicker, Find is there (and lightning quick too!)
Haven't had a chance to check that HDMI switching is better or that the garbled names issue is gone, but i presume from the others that this is the case.

so thanks- glad we didn't have to wait for TV Portal to get this update, and it's ridiculously simple to update.

One caveat though: i think it's actually TOO simple - I rebooted with the stick still in, and it of course updated again. a small dialog box with "Would you like to update your firmware to xxxxx from xxxxx" would be a good idea IMO

When will this be OTA ?

A number of people on AVF & Hummy have reported audio glitches with this Beta S/W.

It seems to only affect some BBC HD 5.1 programs including Later With Jools Holland, Planet Earth & Mad Men.

I have now heard it myself on 3 out of 4 episodes of Mad Men.

It takes the form of frequent momentary breaks in the audio.

Got an email from Humax saying the OTA software update will be 18-20 October plus a new version of the HDR with a bigger drive:.

I've just watched the last mad men episode - the first recording on HD with the new software downloaded and installed. There were frequent interruptions to the sound which was very frustrating. I am surprised software is made available with such a clear fault. Does anyone know if avoiding recording programs on HD will overcome this problem and if the next release will correct this bug?

It has been reported to Humax so hopefully they will correct it for the 18th October over the air S/W update.

I think if you delay playing back any affected recordings until the fault is corrected they should then play OK?

True, but isn't it stated clearly that it's BETA software - i.e. not a proper release? Isn't a beta release there just for this purpose - so that bugs can be reported andf fixed for the final release?

Yes it is true it is described as a beta release and I did hesitate. However in my view beta releases should not have major bugs in them and should not be available to every potential user without extensive prior testing. A phased, planned test regime should be carried out where any bugs are successively found, prioritised and fixed if necessary. The final beta release should be stable and free of major bugs.

I''ve just tried 5.1 for the first time today with Later with Jules Holland from Friday.

Had to turn my amp off and go back to normal stereo TV sound.

Audio drop-outs on 5.1 are terrible.

I also have Beta firmware

I've experienced several audio glitches while watching Red Dwarf on Dave the other night, using 1.01.05 BETA. I've also noticed strange things happening to the stereo signal after changing channels, it seems the the left and right audio channels go out of phase with each other. I have to use the audio mode button on the Humax remote to switch to L/L, R/R and then back to L/R to correct it.

Also I've noticed what I consider to be incorrect behaviour with the SCART switching signal (I don't know if this is limited to the latest BETA release or if it also applied to the 1.01.04 version). The box doesn't seem to raise and drop the pin 8 switching signal when bringing the box in and out of standby if a recording is in progress. I consider this incorrect because the switching signal should be raised when bringing the HDR out of standby (i.e. to watch TV through the box) and dropped when putting the box into standby (i.e. to watch TV directly on the TV). Whether the box is recording or not should not affect the pin 8 signal.

Also had drop-outs on Planet Earth, first time I've had this problem, the only difference, using the BETA firmware. The problem happens via optical and via HDMI.

The in and out of standby is wrong on the Humax, and I believe other models have been the same. SCART and HDMI shouldn't be 'turned on' while the box is in active standby (i.e. off to the user but on recording).

It is very annoying as when watching something and the Humax powers up for a timer recording, the HDMI is made live and just shows a blank screen. This causes a problem as the input switches to the Humax HDMI input and we are sat watching a black screen. Sounds like the SCART is doing the same thing, coming on with a black screen.

Why these things don't get found in BETA testing I really don't know. We can work around the input problem by switching back, but sometimes when we are engrossed in a film for example, suddenly to be thrown to a black screen can ruin the engagement with the story.

Come on Humax!

It also would appear this BETA firmware is going live in a OTA from the 18 October.
