Hi,

I have just got a Sony Ericsson K700i and it is a good phone. Today i went and bought a bluetooth dongle for the purpose of transfering mp3 files from my computer to the phone. The problem is that the bluetooth is very slow. Does anyone use a data cable for this phone? can you tell me is it fast?

The transfer rate that i am getting on bluetooth is 20kbps

thanks in advance

Yeh,, bluetooth is slow sadly.

MUCH faster than infrared tho. And cooler. Just select the mp3's you want and send them overnight.

Bear in mind the space is reallllly limited on our phones . 32 mb or something.

Tho i use it if i go for a bike ride, better than carrying mindisk as well.

Since I have got the phone, just a few days ago, I have noticed all kinds of bugs in the software.

The phone has crashed twice and the organiser went corrupt, all of the appointments that I entered into it decided that instead of occurring when they were supposed to, they occurred every day, forever!

I am getting withdrawal symptoms from not having a Nokia.

There isn't anything wrong with the phone. It's the software. Mobile phones normally go through a few releases of software to iron out the bugs before they are completely stable. Unfortunately I have got the first version. The problem with the organiser occurred when I tried to synchronise with outlook on my computer.

Oh I haven't bothered doing that. lol!

I've had a PDA for ages and got bored of sync'ing all the time. The one time i needed the backed up pc version, it didn't work!

You like the phone in general tho? I love it, except the buttons being uber small, compared to my 3310!

Yes, I like the phone. I have always had Nokia’s, so it’s hard to get used to a SE.

I have got a question, when you turn the phone off and then plug it in to charge, does a charging animation and the light come on and stay on? Mine does that.

If you press the volume down button whilst the phone is off and charging does the phone crash?

I don’t know if their release software is very duff, or you are right, I have got a duff phone.

Hi there,

In answer to your question about the backlight when charging, if you go to:

Settings > Display > Light

Change this from 'Power Save' to 'Automatic'.

Then when you charge your phone the light will go out automatically after a short amount of time.
Also when the phone goes into standby when idle the clock will be displayed as well as icons for missed calls, messages, etc, instead of just a blank screen.

Have a go and see if that works!

I will be keeping an eye open for a newer version of the phones software coming out.

You can check the software by doing this:

From the standby screen (the one that shows the operator name)

Joystick right
Press *
Joystick left
Joystick left
Press *
Joystick left
Press *

My software is version is R2A041, is yours the same weeksy2001?

Hi I've also got the K700i (UK version of the K700). I'm pretty pleased with it, my last phone was a 7650 which I was most reluctant to get rid of but it was such a brick it wasn't that 'mobile'.

I've encountered a couple of issues with the K700i that so far I've been unable to resolve. The first is to do with the email client, it's not the best in the world (certainly not as good as Symbian's). The main problem is that when I forward emails often I'm told the email message is too large to be forwarded (even relatively short emails with no attachments). Does anyone know if there's a way around this? Can I allocate more memory to the mail client, change its settings or even upgrade it?

My second problem is when trying to use the phone as a modem with my laptop over bluetooth. I've got a vaio laptop so I'm using its internal bluetooth adaptor (it's a Centrino). After a large amount of trial and error I can query the modem, I can even get it to dial-out to an ISP. But the phone just drops the connection and the bluetooth crashes making the machine unstable.

Has anyone encountered any of the above issues, has anyone got the modem to work successfully over bluetooth?

On the positive side the phone does most of what my 7650 did. The night photo mode generates very noisy images (even with the photo light) but for something so compact I shouldn't really complain. Also there's a proper web browser coming out soon (not Opera unfortunately):
http://www.access-us-inc.com/news_re.../20040608.html

I'm not sure I'll stay with Sony-Ericsson and Brew OS when I next upgrade, imo Symbian is far superior and has a lot more 3rd party support so I'll probably switch back to Nokia. I'm not knocking the K700i though as I've had a lot of fun with it already. Also design-wise it reminds me of my old CMD-Z5.

Thanks for any help!!

Bluetooth has a transfer rate of 1mbps. But it's split up in the way it's used; 768k is used for data, while the remaining is used only for headsets.

Thanks for that but I did know already. I am only getting 20kbps though. Hopefully mp3 transfers will become bearable when the data cable finally arrives.

hi, i am having a problem kind of split between the k700i and the nokia 6230. I got the 6230 and my partner got the k700i last week. When he sends me a video msg from the k700i i cant view it, its just a blank screen with the counter counting down from 15 seconds, cant see the video at all. Anybody know of anything similar? it does download the video using gprs but i just cant see it.

Arrrrgh!

The Sony Ericsson DSS-25 connectivity stand came this morning. I plugged it into my computer hoping that mp3 transfers would speed up; I thought that a cable would be faster than the Bluetooth.

No, the cable is a lot slower than Bluetooth. I waited for the K700 because I wanted a phone that played mp3s, but the transfer rate is so slow it’s unbearable.

I guess that a standard single mp3 transfer would take 30mins.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

When I scroll downwards through my phonebook, I notice that the numbers displayed against a persons name are not always the correct ones. It happens all the time actually.

If I press call, the phone will call the correct number, if I go to view and edit, the phone shows the right number.

Does this happen to anyone else? It may not be immediately apparent, as most people don’t remember many numbers nowadays, but it happening to quite a few of my contacts.

Can you change the case on the K700i? Does it have a video recorder? Is it compatible with 3?

I am quite sure that you cannot change the case.

It does have a basic video recorder

I don't know if it’s compatible with 3

I've just upgraded my Orange Nokia 3510i for a Sony Ericsson k700i - FABULOUS machine. I use a bluetooth dongle to transfer my mp3s etc from computer to phone.

At £275 (sim free) it IS expensive but it does everything, and IMO it's worth the money.

The only thing as mentioned earlier, the speed of the bluetooth is slow at 23kbps for me.

Off topic, but does anyone know how to use the bluetooth to get internet on the mobile?

The video is the only let down with the phone for me. You can't change the cover.

Yup. Cam software version: 3.9

just to follow on my last post, Avoid getting this phone on Orange, they have screwed the shortcuts and have given us 2 camera buttons instead of the *More* option like in the T610 looks like i will be taking mine back on the 14 day money back.

this sucks as o2 have rubbish reception near me and Voda are worse the Orange at screwing phones up and T-mobile well do i even have to say
