I wonder who scripted that for him - would he even know who The Situation is?

I always thought they were given a description of the celebs by the producers. You can tell they either get help or work it out before hand what they are going to say. Bruno and Len especially.

I remember Adam Carolla saying whatever Bruno had rehearsed he could outdo him with a comeback like when Bruno said he was a cross between John Cleese and Will Ferrell and Adam shot back "both men could buy and sell you tonight." The look on Bruno's face was priceless.

I loved when Len told the Hof, "It's never too early to panic."

Wonder if he'll use that gem of a line on Strictly this season.

Probably not prior to the show, but he (and probably the other judges as well) looks up every contestant before the show starts. Incidentally who/what are The Situation???

I lurved the young man from Disney, Kyle was it? Great performance from him.
So lovely to see Corky Ballas back on the telly, hope the Brady Bunch lady stays for a bit.
Loved Sara Palin's daughter, though she was rubbish.
Michael Bolton wasn't as bad as the judges made out.
The Hoff was better than I was expecting.
I thought the Boy who had only had 5 days didn't do too bad at all, at least he kept on moving throughout.
Louis' partner, why the frikin comedy again Louis? It started so nicely too.
Everyone else I found dissapointing/ dull and overmarked.

Louis' comedian girl, or the girl from the Hills out first I think. I haven't checked for spoilers so I don't know yet

Totally agree with the BIB. I like Louis and thought Margaret was really good at the beginning of the dance - there was no need for the slapstick. Felt the same last year with Nicee (sp). Maybe its just me not liking slapstick..!!!!!

I think there is a place for it, in some latin and show dances. But not the VW. Not ever the VW.

Hopefully they will both listen to the judges advice and dance without the comedy for their next dance. I think Margaret has potential to be a really good dancer.

A few reactions (from what I can remember). Actually I was hoping the program was going to be repeated this morning. The Friday night shows usually get repeated on Saturdays. But it wasn't, or I missed it.

Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani

A very competent start. I felt they were undermarked. Though it's not a good idea to give good marks so early; it leaves nowhere to go.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer

I like Lacey, and they had fun. Not sure how well he'll do with the ballroom.

Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke

I found the height discrepancy very distracting. I was actually looking at that far more than what Fox was actually doing, or looking at poor Cheryl. I thought it was a ridiculous pairing. Judges seemed to say that height didn't matter.

Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amsel

I found her tattoos very distracting.

When the incident with the dress occured I thought it was accidental. Then realising it was intentional - what did she do that for? She was almost saying "I know you're all going to thing I'm rubbish, so I'll show I'm good at one thing - making a fool of myself". I thought that was sad. As Len and Carrie said, she could have taken herself more seriously. She have could have done something for her self-esteem; just IMO.

Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

I thought this pair were hot from the outset. But slightly arrogant (when compared with Hough and Grey)

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas

Odd that her mum was missing from the audience (or maybe I missed her), but probably best as mum would have taken attention from her daughter, and it would have put pressure on her. The girl was great coping with nerves. Just about everyone else is a professional entertainer and used to appearing. I'm not a big fan of Mark, ego-wise, but I do hope they stay in for a few weeks. I don't think the girl has the aptitude to go all the way.

Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas

I could not believe this woman's age the first time I heard it. 76!!! And it was repeated a bit later. Blimey.

Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower

I like Chelsea, she's sweet with no airs. Sad that she won't be staying in the competion very long.

The Situation and Karina Smirnoff

I hadn't a clue what Situation meant. Totally confused.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough

A very very cool couple.

I'm a bit surprised that Hugh manges to get a series of really good partners.

On Strictly I have the impression that if a pro does well one year, they are given poor partner the next. I might be wrong.

David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson

This guy just gets up my nose.

I agree with others that it was so disappointing that Margaret Cho went for comedy. The beginning of the routine showed great promise.

I didn't like Margaret Cho's tattoos or her dress & the comedy totally spoiled the dance,

Derek Hough always amazes me with how well he shows off his partner's strenghts.

I really enjoyed this last night and was glad I made the effort to watch it.

The only downside is that I don't know the pros that well yet (apart from Derek Hough) so have to try and remember who they are as well as the celebs I'm not so familiar with!

Couldn't get over the amount of tattoos Margaret Cho had (one of the few I recognised as I watch Drop Dead Diva) and I agree with others comments about what a shame they tried to do a comedy routine as I thought she did start off quite well.

I felt quite sorry for Bristol Palin as she obviously looked ill at ease and felt awkward doing the dancing. Hopefully she will improve although I don't think she will be in it for longer than a month.

I was actually quite worried when Florence Henderson was dancing as her legs were so thin and they looked like they could snap at any minute! She does look good for 76 though...

I think somebody might have told me this on another thread, but I take it Mark and Corky Ballas are related? How old is Corky Ballas anyway as on SCD I don't think any of the pros are as old as him (although Anton might come close I suppose).

I was surprised that Derek Hough did so well with Jennifer Grey...like martyboy said, in SCD if you do well one year, you tend to get a duffer the next!

Yes they are father and son ! Shirley Ballas is his exwife and Marks mother. I think he must be at least a bit older than Anton ! I I also seem to recall he went out with Kristina R from Strictly (I think !)

Mike Sorrentino is "the situation" which is his nickname from the show "Jersey Shore" which he is on. He is named "the situation" because wherever he shows he shows up you have got a situation on your hands. The wild girl who is on the show is nicknamed Snooki (Nicole). The "situation" and Snooki are very popular American culture right now and fodder for jokes. Even the President was asked by the press if he knew who "the situation" or Snooki were. Thank God he had no idea and had to be told.

What I like is that Bruno is calling him Mike and Len is not amused.

Yes he did, and she (Kristina) got lot of bad press for allegedly trashing Corky's home when she discovered she had been dumped!!

I really enjoyed the first show; it was, as I've come to expect from dwts, highly entertaining.

On the whole, with a couple of exceptions, I thought the cha cha's far superior to the V.waltzes.

Of those I can remember:

I enjoyed Kyle's cha - loved his enthusiasm, and the fact he had clearly worked on a little technique. Interesting to see if he can tone down his exuberance for the ballroom!

I liked Jennifer's V.waltz. It was soft and elegant, as a VW should be.

Rick also did an excellent VW; as with Jennifer's it had a grace and elegance about it. Very pleasant to watch. I really wish his had been the first VW and set the standard for the others....

Kurt's VW was appalling. Clumpy, heavy, horrible. What on earth were Bruno and Carrie-Ann on about? How could they have seen it as good?

Margaret started well; a 'proper' VW I thought, then went into stupid slapstick... slapped wrists to Louis! And if there is anything I hate more than a guy covered in tats, it's a woman. I have no idea who she is, or what she does, but she looked hideous. [Sorry no intention to offend her fans].

David Hoff was appalling - I hope he is first to get booted out.

Having just finished watching, my favourites were Brandy & Maks, Kyle & Lacey and Jennifer & Derek. Also thought Rick and Cheryl did well given the height discrepancy - he held himself well and didn't stoop down to her which I'm guessing would have been very tempting!

Wow just watched the pro dance at the top of the show - Corky sure can still move !!!!
